A man has been jailed after he was convicted of raping a woman at a restaurant in Frodsham.

Abdul Helim was sentenced to six years in prison at Chester Crown Court on Friday 7 November.

The 50-year-old, of Grange Avenue, Oldham, was earlier found guilty of rape and possession of indecent images of children following an three day trial.

The court heard how the victim met Helim at the India Garden Restaurant in Frodsham.

The pair formed a sexual relationship together and would meet at the restaurant.

However, in late 2022, Helim asked the victim to do something which she did not consent to. Despite her refusal, he went on to rape the woman.

The incident was later reported to police and In October 2023, after the launch of the investigation, Helim was arrested in relation to the allegations. During questioning he denied having a relationship with the woman, he claimed that they were just friends and had never had sex.

However, officers examined mobile phone data and recovered a catalogue of messages between the pair, which made clear, repeat reference to their relationship.

In addition, officers also discovered that Helim had possessed a number of indecent images of children.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Hannah Lamborn, who led the investigation, said:

“Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the bravery of the victim in this case who not only had the courage to report and speak about what had happened to her but also had to endure the stress of a trial and facing the defendant in the court room. I would also like to acknowledge the victim’s family and friends who supported her throughout the investigation and the court process.

“I hope that the sentence handed to Helim will provide them with some closure, knowing that he is now behind bars where he cannot do this to anyone else.

“Helim is clearly a danger to women, he was aware that the victim did not consent, but he chose to continue anyway to fulfil his own sexual desires.

“Throughout the investigation, and the subsequent trial, Helim has attempted to deny the offence put to him. Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies, and he is now facing the consequences of his actions.

A man has been convicted following a series of indecent exposure incidents in Theale following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.

Stephen Benyon, 49, of Sandy Lane, Caldicot, appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday 24 October, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent exposure and one public order offence.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court on Wednesday 17 December.

At around 10.10pm on 16 April 2024 a 40-year-old woman was crossing an overbridge near Theale railway station when she was confronted by a man who was exposing himself and masturbating while looking at her.

Officers received a further report on Thursday 19 September 2024 when a man exposed himself in front of a woman at Theale station and started masturbating.

Detectives conducted a thorough investigation, carrying out plain clothes patrols, reviewing CCTV, and undertaking witness enquiries. Following the incident in September they published a CCTV appeal in the media. The appeal resulted in several names coming forward to police which were eliminated from the investigation. The case was closed pending any further investigative opportunities.

At around 9.15pm on Thursday 28 August 2025 a 16-year-old girl was at Theale railway station when she was approached by a man who exposed himself and started masturbating.

Around 10.10pm on Tuesday 30 September 2025, the same victim from the September 2024 incident reported to police that she had encountered the man again, who had made comments to her that caused her distress.

Detectives began a new investigation, carrying out witness and CCTV enquiries, and nightly plain clothes operations. Officers also made enquiries at local pubs in the area, showing the CCTV image of the suspect to staff and punters to see if anyone recognised him.

Benyon was arrested on Wednesday 22 October after staff at a pub in Church Street recognised him and called police. Officers attended the pub in an unmarked vehicle and apprehended Benyon as he stood drinking in the beer garden.

Detective Sergeant Antonio Civitillo said:

"The victims were going about their business as usual when Benyon targeted them for his own perverted sexual gratification - causing them considerable shock and distress.

“We're very grateful that they came forward to report these incidents and have been incredibly supportive of our enquiries to apprehend him. I'd also like to thank the pub staff who alerted us so quickly when they spotted him. Sexual offences on the railway network will never be tolerated and we will always do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”

"Our enquiries are ongoing. We believe it is possible there could be more victims who Benyon may have exposed himself to and urge anyone who may have been a victim to text BTP on 61016, using the reference Op Brennabor.”

A Cornish man has been jailed for 10 years as judge calls offending a ‘campaign of the most horrific abuse’.

Dylan Cathrae, aged 20, was found guilty of six offences by a jury following a trial at Truro Crown Court in October.

Cathrae, formerly of Swallow Close, Bude, appeared at court today where he was jailed for the following offences:

• Rape
• Two counts of assault by penetration
• Coercive and controlling behaviour
• Non-fatal strangulation
• Witness intimidation

Cathrae had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment against a second victim.

In addition to jail time, he was given a restraining order against both victims.

At trial the court heard that it was reported to police that Cathrae had raped and sexually assaulted the victim, behaving in a physically and emotionally abusive manner toward her including putting cigarettes out on her.

Cathrae was interviewed by detectives on multiple occasions about the reports. When asked questions about the incidents he claimed that the reports of sexual offending were made up out of jealousy.

When officers put to him that his behaviour could be construed as ‘obsessive’ and ‘controlling’, he replied saying ‘…how’s that a bad thing?’.

Following a trial at Truro Crown Court in October, the jury found him guilty on all counts.

Sentencing him to 10 years in prison, the judge told him ‘This is one of the worst cases of coercive and controlling behaviour I have seen’

At the hearing today the victim read a statement to the court in which she said the crimes had ‘ruined my life’.

Investigating officer, DC Isla Ferguson said:

“We welcome the sentence given and first and foremost I praise the victim for her strength and courage to report the crimes and support the criminal justice process.

“I hope that the outcome today may help her find some closure.

“I also hope that this case may encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to come forward and report it so that we can investigate and take action against perpetrators.”

Michael John Worton (b. 30/12/1951) of Moss Colliery Road, Swinton, has been sentenced to three years in prison and three further years on license after being found guilty by jury of 16 offences at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday 4 November 2025. He has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The conviction follows disclosures from five courageous victim-survivors who came forward to report abuse they experienced as children during the 1970s and 1980s, when Worton worked on a farm and in a children’s home.

These men have carried the trauma of their experiences into adulthood and have shown immense bravery in helping bring Worton to justice.

The investigation revealed that Worton abused his position of trust to target vulnerable children in settings where they should have felt safe. We are also reviewing previous related investigations to ensure all non-recent offences are fully identified and addressed.

At his court appearance, Worton denied all charges and went to trial. He showed no remorse in court throughout the course of the two weeks and was subsequently found guilty by jury of the following 16 offences: five counts of indecent assault, three counts of indecency with a child, and eight counts of indecent assault on a male person.

We believe that there are other victims that were sexually abused by Worton, and officers are appealing for anyone who may have been subjected to sexual abuse by him, or who may have any information, to please come forward and help us with our enquiries. 

Detective Constable Nathan Roscoe, from GMP Salford district, said:

“It’s with thanks to the great bravery of these victim-survivors in coming forward and disclosing the abuse they were subjected to that we have been able to bring this despicable man to some long-awaited justice.

“Worton preyed on vulnerable young children while he worked in positions of trust in the local community. He should be ashamed of himself, and that shame lies solely with him.”

Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood, district commander for Salford, said:

“I pay tribute to the victims in this case for their courage to ensure Worton is finally behind bars.

“We believe there may be further witnesses and victims in relation to this investigation and want to take this opportunity to appeal for them to please come forward.  

“Whether it be abuse against the children of today or yesterday, our specialist officers are determined to make child sexual abusers ultimately face justice for the harm they have inflicted.

“You will be believed no matter the passage of time, and we will listen to you and work with you at a pace that is best for you. We have specialist officers who can support you and help you through the process.”

Kevin Wyatt (25/05/1984), no fixed address, subjected the woman to two brutal attacks in Clayton, Manchester in June this year.

Wyatt was jailed for life at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday 4 November 2025 and will serve a minimum of 12 years and six months, after pleading to rape, robbery, false imprisonment and threatening with a bladed article.

Wyatt had been at the woman’s house carrying out odd jobs when he carried out his horrific attacks.

He also made his victim withdraw £120 from a cashpoint so he could get a taxi home to Middleton.

Wyatt was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft by a neighbouring force however provided false details. Once in custody, his real details were established, and he was swiftly taken into custody by GMP.

Detective Constable Lucy Holland, of City of Manchester CID, said:

“This was an horrific crime where Wyatt has abused the trust of a vulnerable woman who invited him into her home.

“Wyatt is a dangerous man who is rightly now serving a long prison sentence.

“I want to take this opportunity to praise the victim - her bravery in reporting the incident and providing information to officers showed true courage.

“She has been supported by our officers throughout the case and will continue to be following his sentence.

“We know how difficult speaking out about sexual abuse can be however our officers will support you, investigate, and act robustly against perpetrators. We will take your allegations seriously and treat you with dignity and respect.”

A violent abuser from Medway has been jailed for 15 years after subjecting his victim to a series of attacks and rapes.

Billy Cass, 34, of Rainham High Street, raped his victim multiple times including while she slept. He also sent threatening messages to her and assaulted her.

Court

A Southwark Crown Court jury found Cass guilty of four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of actual bodily harm. He had previously admitted a charge of harassment with fear of violence.

Being sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday 5 November 2025, Cass was jailed for 15 years and will be added to the sex offenders’ register for life. He will also be subject to an indefinite restraining order against his victim.

A Brighton man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after being found guilty of rape and sexual assaults against two women.

Sam Soyoye, 32, of Windsor Street, Brighton, was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court on 3 September of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

He was remanded in custody and appeared before the same court on Thursday, 6 November, where he was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment, to be served concurrently for all offences.   

The offences involved two women, unknown to each other, who were attacked in separate incidents after meeting Soyoye in Brighton. In June 2024, he invited a woman back to his address in the early hours, where he raped her. In September 2024, he invited another woman to his address and sexually assaulted her.

Following a thorough investigation, Soyoye was arrested, charged, and later convicted after a trial.

“This sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the lasting impact they have had on the victims.

A convicted rapist subjected a woman in Fife to a horrific three-day ordeal a fortnight after being released from prison.

Kyler Paterson, 30, was freed after his violent crimes in February this year but started attacking the woman almost immediately, including choking her.

A Keswick man who sexually abused two school-age boys in the 1970s has been jailed for six years following a police investigation.

Keith Taylor, aged 66, of Crow Park Road, was sentenced today (5 November) at Carlisle Crown Court for two indecent assaults on a boy, an act of gross indecency with a boy and a serious sexual offence against a boy.

An investigation was launched after two people spoke with police about what had occurred to them between 1974 and 1979.

Taylor had initially denied all charges against him, however in April 2025 he pleaded guilty to offences committed against one of the victims.

Following a trial in August, a jury found him guilty of the offences committed against the second individual.

Detective Constable Kerry Moynan said:

“Firstly I would like to praise the bravery of both people who came forward and told us what had happened to them.

“Keith Taylor initially denied all offences and continued his denial of the offences committed against the younger of the two victims, leading to a trial where a jury has found him guilty.

“Taylor’s actions were despicable, he knew what he had done was wrong and he has now been brought to justice.

“I hope the case demonstrates to the public how seriously such offending is taken and that any accusations of sexual offending against children in Cumbria will be investigated thoroughly and those responsible held accountable.

“Finally, I would like to urge anyone who has been the victim of abuse – whether recent or non-recent to come forward today. You will be listened to, supported and offences will be investigated with sensitivity and professionalism.”

A Huntly rapist who repeatedly preyed on a teenage girl at locations across Aberdeenshire has been told he will serve at least nine years behind bars.

Robin Bolland had admitted to a charge of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl over a prolonged period while he was employed in the north-east as a lorry driver.

A monstrous double rapist who attacked two vulnerable women has been jailed for 20 years.

Daniel Hart, 29, raped the victims in one night in May, with police labelling him "despicable."

Hart first entered the home of a woman in her 70s with dementia in Poole, Dorset, during the night of May 14/15 this year. He dragged her into the bedroom and raped her.

Police were called at 5:15am and identified Hart via DNA left at the scene.

Before officers could apprehend him, Hart targeted a second victim, a woman in her 40s with disabilities. He approached her outside her flat, pushed her inside, and raped her.

Police were called at about 2pm on May 15 and found Hart nearby. He fled but was chased back to the flat, where he jumped through the lounge window.

Hart was arrested after the second victim confirmed his identity.

He was charged with both rapes, pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court on November 3, and was sentenced to 20 years.

Detective Inspector Jon Sainsbury, of Bournemouth CID, said:

"Daniel Hart's horrific offending saw him rape two vulnerable women in their own homes.

"Thanks to the swift response from officers on the day and a thorough and determined investigation by detectives afterwards, we were able to hold him to account for his despicable crimes.

"When it became apparent both matters involved the same suspect, Detective Constable Hele Leech-Wilkinson and Detective Constable Chloe Roaf worked diligently together to build the case against Hart and ensure he faced justice.

"Our officers will continue to support victims of rape and sexual offences and are absolutely committed to identifying those responsible and taking robust action against them."

A man who raped two women has been jailed for 16 years.

Lee Bailey, of Alvanley Road, Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, was handed the sentence at Chester Crown Court on Friday 31 October 2025.

The 33-year-old had been found guilty of rape, attempted rape, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against one victim. He was also convicted of rape and controlling and coercive behaviour against another victim.

In February 2021, a woman made a report of harassment against Bailey, which resulted in him being made subject to a Non-Molestation Order.

At the time, she also made a disclosure of rape but did not feel able to pursue a formal complaint at the time.

In August 2022, a second woman told police Bailey had raped and assaulted her. She stated Bailey had raped her when she could not consent after drinking alcohol on a night out and had stamped on her head.

Bailey was interviewed and denied the offences but did confirm that the victim was not able to consent due to her level of intoxication.

He was bailed with strict conditions not to have any contact with the victim but breached this within days. The victim told police Bailey had tried to coerce her into retracting her statement.

While this investigation was ongoing, the first victim contacted police and said Bailey had breached the Non-Molestation Order against him, and she now wished to pursue her complaint of rape.

In January 2023, she re-disclosed the rape offence and said he had also coerced her into having sex and even forced her to get out of a vehicle at night down a country lane without a mobile phone. He was later convicted of breaching the Non-Molestation Order.

Following a thorough investigation, he was served with a postal requisition to attend court to face charges in June 2024.

Bailey then failed to attend a hearing relating to the case in March 2025 and following his subsequent arrest was remanded until trial.

He was found guilty following a nine-day trial at Chester Crown Court in September 2025.

Detective Constable Abi Axon said:

“Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the bravery of the victims in this case who not only had the courage to report and speak about what had happened to them but also had to go through the stress of a trial.

“This significant custodial sentence is thanks to them, and I hope this gives them some closure, knowing that Bailey is now behind bars where he cannot do this to anyone else.

“Bailey is clearly a danger to women, and has no regard for the welfare of others, instead focusing on his own sexual desires, no matter the consequences. He even stated in interview he understood that someone who is intoxicated cannot consent but then went on to deny doing anything wrong.

“Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies, and he is now serving a lengthy custodial sentence.

A man from Swansea has been jailed after committing child sex offences.

Mohammed Raihan, aged 22, from Swansea city centre, committed several sexual offences against a teenage victim in July 2024.

Raihan later contacted the victim to threaten her to drop the proceedings and her complaint against him.

Raihan pleaded not guilty to all charges but on June 30 he was found guilty of:

• two counts of rape a girl aged 13 / 14 / 15
• one count of sexual assault on a female
• one count of intimidate a witness / juror
• one count of make indecent photograph / pseudo-photograph of a child (Cat A)
• one count of make indecent photograph / pseudo-photograph of a child (Cat B)
• one count of make indecent photograph / pseudo-photograph of a child (Cat C)

He was remanded into custody and on November 4, he was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court to 15 years in prison.

Detective Constable Mark Wells said:

“It is critical at this time is to recognise the courage of the young victim in this investigation. My hope is that they are able to move forward from this in a positive way and gain some form of closure.

"This investigation was complex and protracted and I would like to thank the diverse team of investigators and detectives that have dedicated their time to diligently progress the investigation. It is also important to recognise the hard work of partner agencies in supporting this young victim along the way.

“During his trial Mohammed Raihan demonstrated no regret or remorse but recognised that the victim was vulnerable. The fact that he went on to exploit these vulnerabilities in the worst possible way, is hard to comprehend.

A man who waged a "campaign" of rape against a primary-school-aged boy shouted abuse in court as he was sentenced to a 23-year extended term as a dangerous offender.

Judge Celia Hughes described Mark Cain's offenses as the "calculating actions of a predatory man" and deemed an extended sentence essential to protect the public.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that Cain, a warehouse worker, raped the child under 13 multiple times—representing at least 22 incidents—in the Vale of Glamorgan over a prolonged period, and forced him to view pornographic materials. The abuse, unreported at the time, surfaced years later during a routine medical appointment.

Cain denied the allegations but was convicted by a jury of four counts of child rape and causing a child to watch a sexual act.

In a victim impact statement read by prosecutor Matthew Cobbe, the complainant said he had long suppressed the memories but felt people "could see through me." He described a "hole in the person" he became as an adult, feeling Cain's abuse had "taken some masculinity" away, yet he felt proud for reporting it, gaining a "healthier mindset" through the process.

Mark Anthony Cain, 38, of Morden Road, Newport, had eight prior convictions for 22 offenses, including indecent assault of a girl, sexual assault of a woman (grabbing a shop worker's breasts), and robbery.

Defense barrister Heath Edwards acknowledged a "life-changingly long" sentence was inevitable. He noted Cain's pre-trial relationship and efforts to address drink and drug issues, and despite rejecting the verdicts "categorically," Cain would engage with prison courses.

The judge said Cain had

"regularly abused and degraded [the victim] at your will." Finding him dangerous "both in the legal meaning and in the ordinary sense," she imposed the sentence amid Cain's outbursts calling the case "bullsh*t."

The 23-year term includes 20 years' custody followed by three years' license; Cain must serve two-thirds before parole consideration. He is a lifelong registered sex offender with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order restricting child access.

South Wales Police detective constable Ameila Lewis said post-sentencing: "The victim has shown immense bravery throughout. I hope that the outcome at court brings them some comfort that the offender has been brought to justice and that their bravery has helped protect the wider public from harm."

A registered Carlisle sex offender has a jail term "hanging over his head" after creating online usernames without notifying police.

Daniel Gardner, 53, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2016 for downloading and distributing indecent photographs of children. Carlisle Crown Court heard he also discussed child abuse online with adults and children, and incited youngsters to engage in sexual activity. He admitted 13 charges, with the youngest victim purportedly aged 11.

As punishment, Gardner was placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, requiring him to inform police of personal details and online use.

However, Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard he violated this by creating three usernames: two earlier this year, and one between January 2021 and September this year. He admitted three failures to comply.

Defense solicitor Adele Graham noted Gardner, of Levens Drive, Carlisle, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, was compliant in interviews, and deeply remorseful. A probation report recommended community-based punishment, citing his low mood and anxiety, which prison would exacerbate.

District Judge Philip Holden called the original crimes "extremely serious." "You know well you are not to create online usernames without first telling the police about them," he said.

He imposed a 24-week suspended prison sentence for two years, plus rehabilitation and a 26-day program. "You know now that this is hanging over your head," the judge told Gardner. "If you don’t comply, you know what’s going to happen. You have come very close to going to prison today. Take this chance. Comply with your order."
