A paedophile, who raped one woman and also engaged in sexual activity with a child, has been jailed following an investigation by Lancashire Police.

Preston Crown Court was told that in May, 2020, Billy Whitehouse took a 14-year-old girl into an abandoned shed in Burnley where they kissed. He then had sex with her, knowing she was underage.

Whitehouse, who is now 18 but was 16 years old at the time of the offence, was charged with rape. But part way through the trial he pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child. That plea was deemed acceptable by the prosecution.

In December, 2021, Whitehouse threatened to stab the second victim, before punching her in the face and rendering her unconscious. Once the victim regained consciousness, he took her into a house and raped her. On other occasions Whitehouse fractured the victim’s hand, sexually assaulted her, urinated on her and threatened to release private sexual images of her which he had taken without her knowledge.

Following the trial Whitehouse, of Green Street, Padiham, was found guilty of rape, assault by penetration, assault occasioning actually bodily harm, and threatening to disclose private sexual images.

He appeared back at the crown court today (March 14) where he was sentenced to eight years custody. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

In an impact statement to the court, the second victim said: “I struggle getting to sleep, and when I do sleep, I have severe nightmares. This impacts me at work because when I get there I am already so tired. I have been prescribed anti-depressants because of what Billy put me through. The effects on me are long lasting and extend far beyond the incidents themselves. I’m still dealing with the aftermath every single day.”

She added: “I hope I can start to move forward now without interruption from Billy, slowly rebuild my life and replace aspects of it which he stole from me.

“I had many aspirations for my life and still do, but this is something which people can’t see. It's pain which I will have to carry with me for the rest of my life.

“It has changed how I view myself and how I view others, and I have come out the other side a different person and a different version of myself. “The impact this has had on me does not have an end date and is something I will live with forever, so you could say it is me who has been handed the life sentence.”

DC Matthew Bourne, from East CID, said: “Whitehouse is an individual who presents a clear danger towards women and girls by his appalling attitude towards them, and a warped sense of entitlement. For such a young man he has committed some extremely serious and appalling crimes, which will have a long-lasting impact on both victims.

“I welcome the sentence handed down to him and the orders handed down by the judge mean Whitehouse will continue to be monitored by the authorities once he is released from prison.

“I hope this case and it’s outcome will encourage other victims of sexual offences to come forward, knowing they will be believed, listened to and we will do everything in our power to put the perpetrator before the courts.”

A convicted sex offender has been jailed after striking up a relationship with a 'vulnerable' woman he met on Facebook.

Scott Bray, 24, was handed a 12-month suspended jail sentence and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in July for three offences of making child abuse images. But he breached the SHPO by failing to tell police within three days that he had a phone and an Xbox games console.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Bray used the phone to contact a 23-year-old woman with learning difficulties who has become his girlfriend.

He also breached the notification requirements of the sex offenders' register by using three social media accounts with different names without informing the authorities. And he was in breach of the suspended sentence by staying at an address in the Potteries without prior permission from his offender manager. Now Bray has been jailed for 16 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Ben Lawrence said on January 4 police visited an address in Stoke-on-Trent where Bray was living with his new girlfriend. Mr Lawrence said: "He was twice asked for a phone and he denied having one. Eventually he admitted he did have one. He had it from at least December 31, more than three days.

"It was that phone he used to communicate with the vulnerable woman. In his police interview Bray said he used the phone since mid November.

The court heard police visited his home again on January 18 and recovered an Xbox games console. Mr Lawrence said: "His grandmother was spoken to. She revealed he had been using social media accounts in three different names. That put him in breach of the notification requirements.

"She also confirmed he had been speaking online to the vulnerable woman, his girlfriend, using those accounts and names. He was interviewed about it and agreed he was in breach of the SHPO."

Bray, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching a SHPO; failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders' register; and breaching a suspended prison sentence.

Rob Holt, mitigating, said: "He says he is genuinely sorry and remorseful for his behaviour. He has learned his lessons and won't be making the same mistakes again."

He said Bray met the vulnerable woman on Facebook and did not target her. He said his client had been assaulted in custody and is suffering from anxiety and depression.

Mr Holt added: "He has not given proper regard to the order in detail and the level of consideration that needs to be given to these orders. It will not be repeated, he tells me."

Recorder Julian Taylor said: "I regard these as very serious breaches." Bray remains subject to the 10 year SHPO and is on the sex offenders' register for the same period.

A SEX offender has been described as ‘predatory and deviant’ by a judge after being responsible for covertly filming a teenager in a bathroom.

Colin Pennell, formerly of Latchford, used technology to spy on the woman and record her as she undressed, showered and used the toilet.

The 47-year-old was told that his voyeuristic actions only ceased as he was caught rather than voluntarily, and that he was reluctant to admit he was sexually motivated.

He was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Monday, March 13 after pleading guilty to a charge of voyeurism.

The court heard from prosecutor Jayne Morris who explained how the teenage victim was taking a morning shower, getting ready for the day ahead.

After getting out and while naked, she noticed a recording device in the bathroom window, leaving her ‘very angry’.

The complainant checked the device, where she uncovered a number and videos of her naked herself in the bathroom. The discovery left her ‘extremely upset’ and in tears.

Cheshire Police were informed, with an examination of the device revealing a total of 275 photos and five videos of the complainant.

All of the material was covertly photographed or filmed in the bathroom or shower showing her in varying states of nudity.

The court heard how some of the images and videos had no metadata attached, so it was unclear when the photos and videos had been taken.

Following investigations, the defendant was arrested and made no comment during his police interview.

In an impact statement, the complainant said that the offending has had a big impact on her mental health, leaving her feeling anxious and considering receiving therapy.

She has suffered from panic attacks and heart palpitations, which never happened before the offending, while she also now feels paranoid about being watched and does not want to go out anymore.

The statement added that the woman’s mental health is ‘very up and down’, while learning what had happened made her feel ‘sick, disgusted and as if her stomach had turned inside out’.

Ms Morris revealed to the court that Pennell has two previous convictions for dissimilar matters.

In defence of his client, Mark Connor said: “I accept that the case crosses the custody threshold, and that the evidence clearly suggests an established pattern of behaviour.”

He added that Pennell is ‘deeply ashamed and remorseful’ for his actions, and asked the court to consider suspending the inevitable prison sentence.

This would allow him to engage in a sex offender treatment programme outside of a custodial setting.

But this call was rejected by judge Michael Leeming, who concluded: “Your offending was not isolated, and shows a pattern of predatory and deviant sexual offending.

“You have been less than frank with probation officers, offering no explanation for your behaviour and not admitting that you were sexually motivated from the outset.

“You now accept today for the first time that you were motivated by sexual gratification.”

He added: “Had you not been caught, chances are you would have continued to act in that way and not desist voluntarily.

“In my mind, appropriate punishment can only be achieved by immediate imprisonment.”

Pennell, now of Snaefell Avenue in Liverpool, was sentenced to eight months in prison.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order to limit his ability to reoffend and a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim – both for a period of 10 years.

In addition, the defendant is now bound to abide by sex offender registration and notification requirements for the next decade.

Pervert pensioner Stephen Bradbury has been jailed after he was caught with hundreds of child abuse photos - including one of a baby girl being raped. The 75-year-old sex offender was arrested after police visited his Bucknall home in January last year.

Officers could see him trying to conceal a device as they looked through his window. He came clean and told the officer there were indecent images on his iPad.

It was analysed and contained hundreds of pictures at category A, B and C. There was also an extreme pornographic image and an one of an 18-month-old toddler in considerable distress as she was being raped.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he has previous convictions include indecent assault; gross indecency with a child; indecent assault on a girl under 14; and possession of indecent images of children. Now Bradbury has been jailed for 20 months.

Prosecutor Mark Brookes said police analysed the iPad and it contained 126 still images and 75 movies at category A - the most serious; 35 still images and eight movies at category B; and 34 still images and six movies at category C.

Bradbury, of no fixed address but formerly of Fellbrook Lane, Bucknall, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent photographs of children; possession of a prohibited image of a child; and possession of extreme pornography.

Paul Cliff, mitigating, said the case did not involve any onward distribution of images. And he said there was a relatively modest amount of images compared to other similar cases.

He said Bradbury suffers with chronic emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, diabetes and arthritis. Mr Cliff added that Bradbury admitted his offending to the police and pleaded guilty.

Judge Sally Hancox said: "You were asked if there was anything you had not declared. You responded, 'There is child porn on it. I am going back to prison, aren't I'?

"You accept that you have an ongoing attraction to children. The children were disturbingly young. One is a child aged 18 months being raped. She is clearly in extreme distress."

Judge Hancox added that Bradbury will serve half the sentence before he can be considered for release by the parole board but the 'likelihood is he will remain in custody for some time'.

She made him the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years and he will be on the sex offenders' register for the same period.

DC Darren Bithell, from the sex offender management unit, said: "We welcome the sentence imposed upon sex offender Stephen Bradbury. He is a person that poses a risk to children and to the public overall.

"We will always investigate and seek to bring to justice those who commit sexual related offences. Safeguarding victims is also of paramount importance to us."

A 70-YEAR-old Bradford man has been jailed for more than eight years after raping a teenager.

Edwin Gill, of Dulverton Grove, Holme Wood, initially pleaded not guilty to the offence, claiming the teenager had consented.

But after seeking legal advice, he changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court today (March 14).

Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp told the court that Gill had first asked to cuddle the teenager, touched their bottom and inner thigh, then proceeded to rape them.

The victim was left shocked and felt helpless after the attack, but was able to tell family about what had happened, and Gill was arrested.

In interview he initially denied any rape, but later admitted having sex with the teenager, which he claimed was consensual.

In a victim impact statement read out to the court, the victim described how they had suffered panic attacks as well as struggling to sleep and concentrate on studies following the attack.

Judge Ahmed Nadim praised the young victim for “courage and fortitude” in assisting the authorities in bringing Gill to justice.

Laura McBride, for Gill, told the court that there was genuine remorse from Gill and that “he is truly sorry for what has happened”.

“He can’t put into words the shame and regret that he’s felt,” she added.

In sentencing Gill to eight years and nine months imprisonment, Judge Nadim said he had broken moral and legal norms, adding: “A child’s carefree days have been marred." 

He added that his victim suffered “degradation and humiliation” at his hands.

A life-long sexual harm prevention order was imposed on Gill, and he must register as a sex offender for the same length of time too.

50-year-old Corey Anderson was sentenced on Friday, March 10, at Ipswich Crown Court to six years and 10 months in prison.

Anderson first met the victim online in 2018 and continued to communicate with her online until the summer of 2020 when he arranged to meet her.

She was aged 15 at the time.

He met the victim in Suffolk before taking her back to his home address in the West Midlands.

Police located Anderson and the victim in a vehicle after the teenager had been reported missing by her family who had raised concerns that she was with Anderson.

He was arrested, brought back to Suffolk and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and subsequently charged.

At a hearing in February, Anderson was found guilty by a jury of sexual activity with a child, meeting a child following a sexual grooming, sexual communication with a child and child abduction.

 
In addition to his sentence, Anderson, of Castle Street in Tipton, was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Sam Chandler said: “The defendant in this case poses a significant risk to children.

“Throughout the trial he insisted his motivations were purely honourable, in that he was concerned for the welfare of the child to whom he was not related.

"However, the evidence in this case proved that he had been in communication with the vulnerable child since she was 12 years old and that he had groomed her over a three-year period, before abducting her and sexually assaulting her at his home, all for his own sexual gratification.

“The sentence sends a clear message to other potential perpetrators of child sex abuse; this kind of offending will not be tolerated, and Suffolk Constabulary will investigate all such matters carefully and thoroughly in order to bring these perpetrators to justice and to protect the most vulnerable within our society.

 
“The victim in this case and her family have shown immense courage and strength in telling their story, engaging with the police investigation and the ensuing trial and I hope in time the victim can heal from the harm that was inflicted upon her at such a young age.

“The sentence today reinforces why we do this job, to protect the vulnerable.”

Lexi-Rose Crawford has been convicted of committing a rape with "her penis", the court's formal indictment said.

A predator who identifies as transgender has been found guilty of raping a friend with "her penis" only a few weeks after being freed from prison for child sex offences. Lexi-Rose Crawford, a biological male who now identifies as a woman, was previously given a four-year prison sentence for having sex with an underage girl after meeting the minor online. The 24-year-old, who started using feminine pronouns after being released from prison in January 2019, raped a vulnerable friend a few weeks later.

Crawford originally complained of having "blackouts" and claimed to have no memory of the sexual assaults at Bristol Crown Court on March 10.

In less than two hours of deliberation, the jury found Crawford guilty of rape and sexual assault despite the defendant claiming to have no knowledge of the attack. For legal reasons, Crawford's victim cannot be identified but is well known to be exceptionally defenceless.

The woman described how Crawford tried to get her to lay next to her before pinning her down and assaulting her.

The victim said in court: "[Crawford] wanted me to lie down next to [her] and then tried to start … cuddling me, which I don’t feel comfortable with anyway. And then she started removing my clothes, which I didn’t want."

The formal indictment used in court said that "her penis" was used during the rape.

Despite the victim's repeated protests, Crawford removed her clothing and raped her.

Asked why she didn’t fight back, she said: "What could I have done without using physical contact to stop [her]? And then that could have been me in the wrong by using physical contact to stop [her]."

In response to Crawford's claimed lapse of memory, Prosecutor David Scutt pointed out that there was no medical evidence to support this claim, and called it a "convenient excuse."

Mr Scutt added: "It appears you can remember the good stuff, but you cannot remember the bad stuff. Are you pretending that you can't remember?"

Crawford denied the allegation, saying: "No."

But the prosecutor pressed again, asking: "What I'm going to suggest is this – that you did those things and you know you did. Agree or disagree?” - to which, Crawford replied: “Disagree."

Crawford was released on conditional bail following the guilty verdict and will be sentenced on May 10. Throughout the four-day trial, Crawford was referred to with feminine pronouns and was addressed as "Miss" by lawyers and Judge Michael Longman.

Crawford was previously convicted of raping a teenage girl in 2017 after grooming her.

If Crawford is sentenced to prison, it is expected that the rapist will be placed in a men's prison due to recent prison policy reforms in the UK regarding the treatment of certain transgender convicts.

The Ministry of Justice and Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service announced new guidelines for housing male prisoners who claim to be women on February 27, with an updated framework saying: "Transgender women offenders no longer housed in women’s prisons if they have male genitalia or have committed sex crimes."

A man who sexually assaulted a child and repeatedly threatened his partner at knifepoint has been given an extended prison sentence after a judge deemed him to be 'dangerous'.

Daniel Waterworth, 31, inappropriately touched the girl - who is of primary school age - in December last year. At the time of the sexual assault, he was on bail in relation to a string of separate offences against his girlfriend.

The most serious of those came on April 1 2022, when he held a Stanley knife to her neck and threatened to kill her if she screamed. As the woman tried to fight Waterworth off, he sliced her hand open, prosecution barrister Isabelle Haddad told

He then pinned her down underneath a table and held his hand over her mouth, before gagging her with a dressing gown cord. The woman later told police that the cord had some liquid on it and this made her throw up. Waterworth only stopped the attack when a child walked in the room, the court heard.

That incident followed a similar attack less than two weeks earlier, the court heard. On March 19, Waterworth had accused the woman of cheating on him after she sent him a photograph of chocolates she was eating at work.

When they were both at their home later that evening, he got a knife from under a pillow and threatened to kill her if she screamed. He then locked the front door but the woman managed to escape to the front garden.

Waterworth caught up and punched her 'between eight and ten' times in the head. She eventually managed to seek refuge at a neighbour's house.

When Waterworth was arrested, police found a small snap bag of cocaine on him. Waterworth, of Hereford Road, Bolton, later pleaded guilty to two counts of threatening a person with a knife, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery, possession of cocaine, and sexual assault of a child under 13.

Defence barrister Nick Ross told the court that Waterworth is "disgusted at his own conduct". He said that Waterworth has 'no recollection' of the attack and that he has alcohol and substance issues. A psychiatric has also found that Waterworth suffers from psychosis.

The judge, Recorder Michael Maher jailed Waterworth for five years. He also imposed an extended licence period of two years, under the 'dangerous offender' provisions.

Addressing Waterworth, Recorder Maher said: "Your abuse of alcohol and drugs aggravates your poor mental health and aggressive behaviour." Recorder Maher imposed a restraining order, prohibiting Waterworth from contacting his ex-girlfriend and ordered him to sign the sex offender's register for life.

A former police community support officer from Nottinghamshire has been jailed for 14 years after admitting to multiple child sex offences.

Matthew Shaw, aged 38, was reported to police after he was caught filming a girl in a swimming pool changing room at Center Parcs.

Shaw, who has since resigned from Derbyshire Police, was challenged by the girl’s mother after he passed a camera under a cubicle wall in a changing room on April 27, 2022.

He was subsequently reported to Nottinghamshire Police and arrested at his home two days later.

Officers seized several electronic devices, including a mobile phone found hidden in the roof of his garage. Examination of these devices revealed additional videos recorded in changing rooms.

Evidence was also recovered of Shaw, of Bernard Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, engaging in online sex acts with several children.

Shaw initially denied any wrongdoing, but later admitted 21 charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and three of voyeurism.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, Shaw was jailed for a total of 14 years. He will also serve an additional six years on licence.

He was also added to the sex offenders’ register and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Shaw is a devious and manipulative sex offender now starting a well-deserved prison sentence.

“While he did not come into physical contact with his victims, he still caused very real harm to vulnerable young people by exposing them to things they were simply too young to understand let alone consent to.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of children and we will always robustly pursue those who commit offences of this nature.

“I am pleased Shaw has now been jailed and hope this case serves as a warning to others about the consequences of this kind of behaviour – sooner or later we will catch up with you and you are likely to end up in jail.”

Deputy Chief Constable Simon Blatchly, of Derbyshire Police, said: “The offences Shaw has been dealt with at court are shocking.

“As soon as the allegations came to light Shaw was suspended from his role as a PCSO and the force assisted colleagues in Nottinghamshire Police with their investigation. He subsequently resigned from his position last year.

“Through that investigation it was concluded none of Shaw’s offending was found to have taken place while he was on duty and no victims were identified as being linked to his role.

“While all officers and staff hold a position of trust, PCSOs have a unique role that puts them in contact with a great many different groups within our communities, including young people.

“His role and position of trust make his crimes all the more shocking to the public and I share their revulsion at his actions.”

Reacting to the sentence, a spokesman for the NSPCC child protection charity. said: “As a PCSO, Shaw was supposed to be helping the community. Instead he betrayed them in a terrible way, committing a string of sexual offences against a number of children and helping fuel the awful industry of online child abuse material by seeking out indecent images.

“These crimes can have a devastating impact on the victims.”

A paedophile sexually assaulted a young girl while giving her a massage and was found with indecent images of children on his phone when arrested. He later went on to blame a friend for the images, claiming they were already on the phone when he bought it off him.

Mark Lewis, 44, of Bridgend, took advantage of his victim while rubbing her back before taking her underwear off and touching her on the vagina and buttocks. Giving evidence at a trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, the victim said: "When your hand is there for five to 10 minutes it can't be a mistake."

The defendant was arrested in 2021 and his phone was seized by police. Examination of the device resulted in the discovery of indecent images of children, categorised as category A, B and C. He went onto to blame three people for the images before blaming a friend who had sold him the phone.

He was later found guilty of sexual activity with a child and three counts of possessing indecent images. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday heard Lewis maintains his innocence.

Defence barrister Marian Lewis said there was "little" she could say in mitigation. She said the assault was an "isolated incident" and it was not a penetrative offence. She said her client had lived a "blameless life" and had "served his country" in the Armed Forces but had recently suffered with mental health difficulties, depression and PTSD.

Sentencing Lewis, of St David's Close, Brackla, Judge Jeremy Jenkins said he had assaulted the victim in "the most cruel way". He added: "When you gave evidence about (indecent images) you denied all responsibility but blamed another man who had shown you kindness by allowing you to stay at his home following your arrest. He supplied you the phone but was not responsible for the content on it.

"You're entitled to no credit and maintain your innocence.... You have not accepted any responsibility for your actions and have shown no remorse whatsoever."

Lewis was sentenced to a total of 18 months imprisonment. He was also made subject to sex offender notification requirements and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

Christopher Wade, 54, of no fixed abode, was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court which concluded in February before his sentencing today, Tuesday 14 March. He was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and Sex Offender notification for life.
 
At around 10.30pm on Friday 12 August 2022, Wade approached the teenage victim in Southport town centre. He bought alcohol and supplied her with drugs, and while she was incapacitated, Wade raped and sexually assaulted her in a nearby park. The victim was left on a bench and managed to alert a taxi driver to what had happened, at which time police were called.
 
Following an extensive investigation including forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries, Wade was last month found guilty of rape; assault by penetration; and sexual assault.
 
Speaking after the sentencing of Wade, Detective Constable Jennifer Guest said: "Today's sentence hopefully gives the victim some comfort as she continues to recover from this traumatic and deeply damaging ordeal, and we will continue to support her going forward. We recognise the profound impact such serious crime has on victims, and hopefully she will in time gain strength and a brighter future.
 
"Wade preyed on and exploited this vulnerable young girl, using drugs and alcohol to lure her away from a public place, and then added to her suffering through the ordeal of an investigation and trial.
 
"He showed callous disregard for his victim and is clearly a significant danger to the public. Wade will now be serving a sentence which reflects the gravity of his crimes, and one which will protect the public. We'd also like to thank the taxi driver who showed compassion in looking after the victim and calling police on the night. His swift actions helped our investigation immensely.
 
“We are committed to protecting victims of sexual offences, and ensure that anyone who reports an incident to us will be safeguarded and supported throughout the investigation.

A sexual predator who carried out 'disturbing crimes' against a schoolgirl has been locked up. Paedophile Stewart Thomson preyed on the young girl in the Oswestry area of Shropshire.

He was responsible for sexually assaulting her between April 2019 and February 2020. Now, the 40-year-old has been jailed for eight years.

It comes after jurors convicted him of six counts of sexual activity with a child under 16. He also admitted two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

Detective Sergeant Alice Davies, of reactive CID at West Mercia Police, said: "We are really pleased with the jury’s verdict and the sentence that has been given to Thomson meaning that he will now face the consequences of his disturbing crimes on a vulnerable young girl. We take all forms of child abuse incredibly seriously and I hope this result shows the effort we put into making sure children in our community are safe from sexual predators.

"I hope it acts as reassurance to victims that we will do all we can to make sure offenders face justice." Thomson, of Abbeygate Walk, Bangor-on-Dee, Wrexham, was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Monday (March 13).

The convict was placed on the sex offenders register and handed a sexual harm prevention order.

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a rape which happened in the Abington area of Northampton.

In the early hours of October 11, 2020, a woman was enjoying an evening in the garden with her housemates after a long shift at work.

Also invited to the house that night was an acquaintance of one of the occupants - Nicu Botnari, previously of the Headlands, Northampton.

After the woman had called it a night and headed back to her bedroom to get some sleep, she awoke to find Botnari on top her, committing rape.

Following the incident, Botnari left the house and a short time later, the woman reported the incident to police.

An investigation was launched and at Northampton Crown Court in December last year, Botnari was found guilty of one count of rape. Today (March 13) at the same court, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Lead Investigator – Detective Sergeant Andrea Taylor, said: “As a police force, we never underestimate the courage it takes for a person to report a sexual assault and I want to reassure people that when they do, we will treat their report with sensitivity and confidence.

“Nothing will ever make the survivor in this case forget what Botnari did to her but she should be proud of the incredible bravery she has shown which has resulted in a dangerous rapist being sent to prison. Because of her - he can no longer hurt anyone else.

“This case continues to have a significant impact on her but I hope the conclusion today provides her with some comfort. She has so much going for her and I hope she can now see brighter things on the horizon.
