A 33-year-old man has been sent to prison after he secretly installed cameras in people’s homes and workplace.

Jean-Pierre Francis’ penchant for voyeurism first came to Northamptonshire Police’s attention in May 2024 when a woman found a hidden camera in the bedroom of her Northampton home.

An investigation was launched by detectives in the Force’s Criminal Investigation Department which identified Francis as the suspect.

As a result, his devices were seized and upon analysis, officers found hundreds of videos and images that Francis had taken between 2015 and 2025 using discreet cameras.

The cameras were found to have been used in all manner of items including a camera pen, USB sticks and plugs. On one occasion he even used a shower gel bottle to conceal a device.

Six women aged in their 20s-60s were found to have been victims of his crimes.

Francis was subsequently charged with six counts of voyeurism.

After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court on March 13, Francis returned to the same court last week (April 17) where he was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

A destruction order was also made in relation to all of the devices Francis used to offend, and he was also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order which prevents him from owning any phone with a camera, and any other recording devices. He will also be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

“Jean-Pierre Francis carried out sustained and deeply invasive offending, abusing everyday technology to violate the privacy of his victims in places where they should have felt safest.

“Our priority throughout this investigation was to give the victims a voice and to ensure their experiences were taken seriously. I hope the conclusion of this case allows them to move forward.

“This was a complex and highly technical investigation, involving the meticulous examination of multiple devices spanning a decade of offending, and it ultimately exposed the true scale of his behaviour.

"I want to pay particular tribute to PC Sean Taylor from our Digital Media Investigation Team, whose expertise and persistence in downloading and analysing a vast quantity of digital material was instrumental in securing this conviction.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we will continue working hard to put more people like Francis behind bars.”

A 52-year-old man has been sent to prison after he was found guilty of eight child sex offences.

Between 2008 and 2019, Derek McAvoy sexually abused a girl on multiple occasions, touching her inappropriately and taking photos of her in various states of undress.

The girl bravely reported the offences to Northamptonshire Police in 2019, and McAvoy was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, four counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 16, two counts of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of voyeurism.

McAvoy, formerly of Northbrook, Corby, took the case to a trial at Northampton Crown Court which lasted four days and ended at the beginning of the month (April 2) with guilty verdicts from the jury on all eight counts. 

He was sentenced on the same day to 11 years in prison.

A 22-year-old man has been convicted of rape following a retrial at Northampton Crown Court.

The defendant - Dylan Saunderson - first stood trial at the same court in August last year, charged with three counts of rape, one count of assault and one count of administering a noxious substance.

At the end of that trial, Saunderson was found guilty of assault and not guilty of two counts of rape and administering a noxious substance.

The third count of rape could not be agreed upon by the jury and so the victim decided she would support a retrial at Northampton Crown Court which lasted for four days and ended at the end of last month (March 27). The jury took just two hours to return a guilty verdict.

The incident in question happened on the morning of September 28, 2023, when Saunderson attacked a woman inside a Kettering property and raped her.

He was sentenced on the same day he was found guilty to nine years in prison for the rape, 18 months in prison for the assault, to run concurrently, and six months in prison for a separate dangerous dog offence, to run consecutively. 

Saunderson will also be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. 

During sentencing, His Honour Judge Mayo told the court that “this was a prolonged attack which was aggravated by the assault.”

A man who enticed a person to sexually abuse a victim he believed to be her six-year-old daughter has been jailed.

Christopher Clinton was in fact talking with an undercover police officer when he engaged in the conversations between November 2024 and January 2025.

Clinton, aged 60, befriended the 'woman' on a social media network.

Posing as a middle-aged woman he then guided her to engage in sexual activity with a child he believed to be her daughter.

He also expressed a desire to develop an ongoing physical relationship with the child as she grew older.

Clinton was aware of the child’s purported age and had no idea he was in fact talking to a police officer.

Police investigators were able to track him down via his username to an address in Edwalton, where he was arrested on March 4 last year.

During his initial police interview, Clinton declined to answer questions and spoke only to deny that he posed a danger to any children.

He later pleaded guilty to arranging the commission of a child sex offence.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 1 April he was jailed for two years and eight months.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will closely restrict his future use of the internet as well as his access to children.

PC Summer Smith, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Internet Child Exploitation Team, said:

“Clinton genuinely believed he was talking to another like-minded individual who would help him to realise his depraved sexual fantasies.

“He claimed in his police interview not to be a danger to children, but sadly this is exactly what he is.

“Because if he had his way then he would have facilitated very real harm to a real child somewhere in the word, which is why I am so pleased that he has now been sentenced.”

A 19-year-old man has been sent to prison after he was found guilty of rape.

The incident happened inside a property in Weedon Road, Northampton in the early hours of August 9, 2025, when Toby Coucill, previously of Northampton, raped a girl in her late teens.

Following the incident, the girl fled the address and bravely called Northamptonshire Police.

Coucill was arrested and subsequently charged with raping a female over 16 and two counts of sexual assault.

In interview, Coucill initially denied that any sexual activity had taken place, but later changed his version of events to having had consensual sex when he was made aware of the forensic results.

A two-week trial which started on January 26 at Northampton Crown Court and ended on February 6 resulted in the jury finding him guilty of all three offences.

He was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court last month (March 20) to five years in prison.

A former special constable with Northamptonshire Police has been convicted of multiple sex offences.

In 2020, Northamptonshire Police received intelligence regarding potential illegal images of children possessed by 48-year-old Wissem Bonafia.

In August, they attended his address in Barton Seagrave where he was arrested and multiple electronic devices were seized.

Upon inspection, they were found to contain numerous indecent images and videos of various females from prepubescent age up to the age of 17, many of which Bonafia had taken himself.

The offences took place between 2014 and 2019.

Bonafia was arrested and subsequently charged with six counts of raping a woman aged 16 years or over, one count of assault by penetration of an object/thing, six counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, five counts of taking an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child, four counts of making an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child, one count of causing/inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child and one count of committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

A trial date was set for February 16, 2026, which saw a further two charges added - one count of rape, and one count of causing/inciting a child to engage in non-sexual activity.

On day one, Bonafia pleaded guilty to six of the offences - five counts of taking an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

The remaining 21 were taken to trial with the jury hearing the evidence over the course of two weeks.

As the trial progressed, Bonafia pleaded guilty to a further four counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

Today (March 30), Bonafia was found guilty of a further 12 offences.

He was found not guilty of three counts of rape, one of engaging in sexual communication with a child and one of taking an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child.

Lead investigator - Detective Constable Caroline Knight said:

“First of all I would like to thank the women in this case for their resilience and patience while our investigation took place. It has taken a long time to bring it to trial and I cannot speak about them highly enough.

“They have shown great bravery in supporting our case and providing their evidence in court, despite experiencing the most heinous of crimes perpetrated by a person who knew what he was doing was wrong.

“They were all vulnerable in their own way and should be proud of what they have done to get it to this point. I want to thank them for staying on board and in times of hesitation, believing in and continuing with the process.

“Without them giving their evidence and remaining stoic in the witness box whilst experiencing thorough cross examination, we would not have had as good a case as we did.

“I also want to thank Jeff Wells from our Digital Forensics Unit. Without his diligence at the beginning of this investigation, we would never have identified these children. Also Michelle Mallison from the same team for providing additional evidence for court and standing in as Jeff’s replacement at the last minute. And retired DI Helena Congreve and my other supervisors, who supported me through the investigation. 

“And finally to our KC Sam Skinner and his colleague Laura Blackband who prosecuted this case marvellously.

“We will now prepare for sentencing, and I hope this case demonstrates our determination to bring those responsible for sexual crimes, no matter who they are, to justice.”

Detective Inspector Lee Jones said: “This has been a really complex investigation with a lot of moving parts, and I am grateful to DC Knight for her diligence, victim care and unwavering determination to bring Wissem Bonafia to justice.

“Bonafia’s crimes are a disgrace to the uniform he once wore, and I hope this investigation and subsequent result at court reassures the wider public that we will do all we can to root out individuals like him.

“We have a lot of brilliant special constables in this force who continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and for them and their work, we are really grateful.”

Bonafia resigned from special constable duties on November 9, 2021. An accelerated gross misconduct hearing was held by Northamptonshire Police on February 16, 2023, which determined that, had Bonafia still been a serving police officer, he would have been dismissed without notice.

A 57-year-old man has been jailed for more than four years after he pleaded guilty to 11 child sex offences.

Between 1995 and 2000, Darren James Wood sexually assaulted a girl on numerous occasions. Then, between 2013 and 2019, Wood repeatedly sexually assaulted another girl.

The offences came to light in 2024 when both girls, now women, reported what had happened to Northamptonshire Police.

An investigation was launched, and Wood was subsequently charged with six counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, two counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, and three counts of sexual assault on a female.

After pleading guilty to all 11 offences at Northampton Crown Court in November, Wood returned to the same court in January where he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.

A man who secretly took intimate photos and videos of two women and a child has been jailed.

Sean Eaves’ crimes first came to light in September 2023 when the 41-year-old sent a screenshot of an intimate video of himself with the first victim to her through Instagram messenger.  

He was arrested in 2024, and officers found the video as well as evidence linking him to the Instagram account on his mobile phone.  

The phone also had intimate photos of another woman, taken without her knowledge, stored on it.

Eaves was released on bail but a few months later, officers received an anonymous tip-off he had another mobile phone and indecent images of children.

A warrant was carried out at a home in Chatteris in January where officers found a memory card containing 18 indecent videos of a child, taken secretly by Eaves.

The second phone was found in his car and contained a further eight indecent videos and 72 photos, all of the same child. 

On Friday (6 March), at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, acting as a crown court, Eaves, of Hawthorne Road, Finedon, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, was jailed for two years, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three counts of voyeurism and one count each of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress and taking an indecent image of a child.

He was also handed a seven-year restraining order for all the victims, a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and also required to register monthly at a police station for ten years. 

DC Amberlie Ford, who investigated, said:

“Eaves shamefully took photos of these women and the child without their knowledge, which violated their dignity and privacy, so I welcome the sentence passed down by the courts.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the victims, whose strength in coming forward and supporting us with a prosecution has led to this result.”

A Northampton man has been jailed for subjecting his former partner to months of domestic abuse, with the judge branding his behaviour "cowardly, cruel and unrelenting".

Craig Stewart, 34, of Helmdon Crescent, Kingsthorpe, appeared via video link from prison at Aylesbury Crown Court on July 15, with sentencing adjourned to September 2. He was convicted of controlling and coercive behaviour, plus two counts of assault by beating and three counts of causing actual bodily harm (ABH), committed between April and September 2021.

Stewart pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing on November 25, 2021.

Prosecutor Alex Radley told the court that two weeks into the relationship, Stewart demanded the victim's Instagram account be made private. The first violence followed a restaurant incident, where he slapped her at home and said she "deserved it".

Stewart called her constantly to check her activities, made derogatory comments about her outfits, called her names in public, checked her phone, and threatened to hurt her cat as it "threatened the undivided attention Stewart wanted".

Mr Radley detailed further violence, including headbutting, slapping, punching, and strangling. In one incident, "He strangled her with both hands and squeezed to the point where she couldn’t breathe. She thought he was going to kill her." Stewart also threatened to kill her and her family.

The final assault involved a torrent of abuse and punches to her head while she drove; she fled to a petrol station for help.

Stewart has 27 previous offences from 2009 to January 2020.

Defence barrister Karen Walton said Stewart accepts his behaviour was "frightening", noting his "depressing and sad background in relation to his family background and people he was close to when he was younger". She added: "He wishes to apologise unreservedly to the victim and accepts how terrifying his behaviour must have been."

His Honour Judge Francis Sheridan described Stewart's actions as "absolutely disgusting", adding: "We have to get the message across to the defendant that women are people in their own right. They are not and never will be your property.

"You have to learn that the court will do everything they can to protect them. If you are not prepared to stop, the sentences will get longer.

"I don’t know why this man was not charged with something more serious such as threats to kill. He should have been."

Stewart was sentenced to 45 months in prison, with an indefinite restraining order barring contact with the victim. He remains under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) from a prior case.

A man who sexually assaulted a woman after posing as a taxi driver has been locked up.

The victim, aged in her 20s, was walking home from a night out in Nottingham in the early hours of 18 May 2025 when a car pulled up alongside her in South Sherwood Street.

The driver, Kelvin Ndoro, told her the VW Golf was a taxi and she got in the front passenger seat.

When she asked to be taken home, Ndoro drove in the opposite direction before pulling into the car park of the Lidl supermarket, in Mansfield Road, and locking the doors.

Ndoro touched her leg and said they should get into the rear of the vehicle.

The victim agreed as an opportunity to escape and she managed to get out the vehicle and hide before summoning help from passers-by.

Thanks to detailed information from the woman, who also recorded Ndoro touching her leg, detectives identified Ndoro as a suspect.

He was arrested at Toddington Services, on the M1 in Bedfordshire, the following day.

Forty-two-year-old Ndoro, of Kings Street, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, eventually pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

He was jailed for 15 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (5 February) and was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Detective Constable Rebecca Walker, of Nottinghamshire Police said:

“This must have been a terrifying experience for the young woman and we know it has had a lasting psychological impact upon her.

“The victim’s quick thinking allowed her to escape from the car having been duped into getting into it simply to get home from a night out.

“Ndoro’s behaviour was predatory and officers worked quickly to identify his vehicle, trace it and arrest him.

“We then built a strong case against him, while supporting the victim, leaving Ndoro with no option but to admit what he had done.”

A 60-year-old man who sexually abused a child over a period of 11 years has been jailed for 15 years. 

Melvyn Peter Brown, previously of Northampton, started to groom the girl when she was five-years-old, with the abuse only stopping when she was 16.

She was around 10-years-old when Brown raped her for the first time.

The abuse was reported to police at the end of last year and following an investigation, Brown was arrested and charged with a number of offences.  

A trial was set for May this year at Northampton Crown Court with Brown admitting to seven offences before and during - two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl 13-15, two counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 during the trial, two counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, and one count of causing/inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The jury then took about four hours to deliver their verdicts on the remaining charges, finding Brown guilty of three counts of indecent assault , one count of assault by penetration of a girl under 13, one count of sexual activity with a child aged 13-15, two counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13, one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, and one count of sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16.

Brown returned to the same court yesterday (January 5) where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 16 offences.

“The abuse perpetrated against this girl at the hands of Melvyn Brown was truly terrible and so I am very pleased to see him jailed for 15 years. 

“Although no sentence can ever make up for what she was put through, I hope the fact that her abuser is now behind bars provides her with some comfort. She has been so brave in supporting our investigation and I hope she feels proud of the courage she has shown.

“Child abuse is a horrific crime that has a lasting-effect, and we are really passionate in the SOLAR team about putting offenders in prison and providing the survivors with the care and compassion they deserve.

“It doesn’t matter how long ago the abuse took place, we will always do our best to try and bring the case to court.

“I am glad that Melvyn Brown is now where he belongs, and I want to reassure the local community that we will continue working hard to bring more people like him to justice.”

A 37-year-old man has been jailed after he pleaded guilty to child sex offences.

At the end of April this year, Ashley Brian Evans befriended a girl on Facebook he believed to be 14 years old.

He then proceeded to engage with her in inappropriate conversations - asking for indecent photos of her as well as in her school uniform, while trying to engage her in explicit chat. He also sent her an inappropriate video of himself. 

What Evans didn’t know however, is that the 14-year-old girl was actually an adult.

Northamptonshire Police was contacted, and Evans was arrested and subsequently charged with attempting to cause a child to watch a person engaging in sexual activity, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity, and possession of Class A drugs.

After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court at an earlier hearing, Evans returned to the same court earlier this month (December 12) where he was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

Lead investigator - Detective Constable Jon Brawn from the Force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team, said:

“I hope this case demonstrates the consequences of attempting to engage a child in sexual chat online.

“If you are caught - and you will be eventually - you will end up in prison.

“We have had some really good results this year in our team and we plan to be just as determined and relentless in 2026.”

A man has been sentenced following a series of serious sexual offences against children in both Sussex and Suffolk.

Inam Khan, 37, of Troon Crescent, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, spent time in online chat rooms and on Snapchat, targeting young children while lying about his own age to build and manipulate trust.

On 19 September, 2022, Khan travelled to Suffolk from his home to meet with a 14-year-old girl who he had spent time grooming online and through Snapchat.

Khan then took the victim to a nearby location, where he went on to rape her. A further attempted rape against the same victim was also reported to police.

Officers immediately began working to track Khan, and he was arrested on 1 October, 2022.

He was later charged with two counts of rape, and one of attempted rape.

In a similar style to his previous offending, Khan soon began work on grooming a 12-year-old girl in Sussex, while he pretended to be just 16-years-old.

He went on to ask her for explicit photographs, stating he needed them to prove that she was a girl.

In the early hours of 8 September, 2024, Khan made the long car journey to the 12-year-olds address and bombarded her with messages to pressure her into meeting him.

He went on to abduct her and sexually assault her.

Six days later, Khan drove to the area again and unsuccessfully attempted to meet the victim.

In total, it is estimated that Khan travelled around 600 miles during these two trips.

The offences were later reported to police, and Khan was quickly arrested on 25 November.

On 27 November, he was charged with assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, taking a child so as to remove her from a person having lawful control, engaging in sexual communications with a child, and with meeting a child following grooming.

At his hearing at Brighton Magistrates' Court later that same day, Khan was remanded into custody ahead of further hearings.

This year, on 23 June, Khan’s trial began at Hove Crown Court and lasted for nine days.

On 3 July, the jury returned verdicts of guilty on all counts regarding both the Sussex and Suffolk cases.

Khan was then remanded back into custody ahead of his sentencing on Monday, 22 December at Hove Crown Court, where he was jailed for 19 years, with three further years to be spent on licence.

Detective Sergeant, Matt Williamson, from Suffolk Police, said: 

"Inam Khan is a dangerous predator, using social media to identify and then meet vulnerable females, whom he then subjected to sexual assaults.

"This investigation was a complex and lengthy process, which also involved working jointly with Sussex Constabulary who had identified another victim.

"Khan’s horrific offending has caused untold suffering to his victims, which will have a long-lasting impact, not only for them, but also for their families.

"I would like to commend them for the extraordinary courage they have demonstrated in reporting this to the police, the support that they and their families have given to the investigation and for the considerable patience they have shown.

"I hope that some measure of justice and reassurance can be found following today’s outcome, not only to the victims and their loved ones, but also to other victims of sexual violence and those not yet ready to come forward.

"I would also like to thank DC Charlotte Blake, the officer in charge of the case. Her diligence and commitment to this investigation helped to ensure that the right outcome was reached for the victim.

"Targeting perpetrators of sexual assault and violence against women and girls is a priority for Suffolk Constabulary. We will not tolerate it and will continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and support victims of this type of criminality."

Detective Sergeant, Jamie Ashford, from Sussex Police, said: 

"Our thoughts remain firmly with the victims and their families, whose courage in engaging with this investigation has been exceptional.

"The impact of Khan’s actions has been significant, and it is right that he is now facing the consequences of the harm he caused.

"Khan used digital platforms to manipulate trust, disguise his motives, and single out young people that he planned to harm.

"Officers in Sussex worked swiftly to identify the risk Khan posed, and close collaboration with our colleagues in Suffolk was vital in ensuring that his pattern of predatory behaviour was fully uncovered.

A 21-year-old man has been sent to prison after he was convicted of breaching his Sexual Risk Order (SRO).

Conor McIntyre, previously of Kings Heath, Northampton, was issued with an SRO in November 2024.

However, in August 2025, he was handed a 20-month sentence, suspended for two years, after he admitted five breaches of the order. These offences happened in June this year when McIntyre was found to have been in contact with girls aged 16 and 12, along with concealing his history of online communication, failing to provide a PIN to an online messaging account, and knowingly withholding information about a relationship.

In September 2025, McIntyre breached the order again when he was arrested by police officers in Milton Keynes after he was found to be in company with two girls aged 17 and 13.

This contact was in breach of his SRO which prohibited him from having any contact with any child under the age of 18.

He was charged with two breaches of his SRO as a result and pleaded guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court in October.

He returned to the same court this month (November 13) where he was sentenced to a total of two years and eight months in prison.

“I am pleased that he has received a custodial sentence for his most recent breaches and that his suspended sentence was invoked in full.
