Appalling predator hid spy camera in his shower to film guests.
St Fremund Way, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV31
A grim predator hid a spy camera in his shower to film guests. When confronted by one of his victims, Simon Garnett said it was 'just a cheap thrill, it’s just a bit of voyeurism'.
But the alarming extent of this unravelled when the guest, who had noticed two LED lights in a clock radio while he was showering, saw the footage. The victim had fled Garnett's house in St Fremund Way but the 52-year-old persuaded him to come back so they could ‘destroy the memory card together'.
Later that evening, the victim watched the footage and saw themselves – and several other victims showering on different occasions. He raised the alarm with police and detectives launched an investigation.
As a result, three other victims were identified and contacted. In police interview, Garnett answered ‘no comment’ to almost all questions.
'Appalling'
But he was charged with eight counts of voyeurism and at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, September 30, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison. The case has been described as 'appalling' by Detective Constable Claire Scott, who praised his victims who helped ensure he ended up behind bars.
"Garnett tried to play his predatory behaviour down by branding it a ‘cheap thrill’," DC Scott said. "This was an appalling string of offences that saw Garnett abuse the trust of friends – and I am glad the courts have imposed a custodial sentence.
"I would like to thank the four victims, whose help has ensured that Garnett is held accountable for his actions."
Sex offender caught with 20 indecent images of kids.
Kingfisher Way, Alcester, Warwickshire, B49
A sex offender is back behind bars after being caught with 20 indecent images of kids. Police say that of the 20, eleven of them were category A, images classed as the most serious.
Registered sex offender Christopher Wood was caught out when officers from the Warwickshire Police Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) made an unannounced visit to his house in Alcester in November last year.
The visit was made as part of his five year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). As part of this SHPO he was required to make electronic devices capable of accessing the internet available to a police officer upon request.
Officers also found evidence that the 23-year-old had deleted things from his phone in breach of his SHPO. Wood was arrested and his phone was sent away for further analysis. This analysis discovered 20 indecent images of children, 11 of them category A.
Wood of Kingfisher Way was jailed for 16 months at Warwick Crown Court last week. Detective Constable Matt Collins from the SOMU said: “We welcome the sentence handed down to Wood and hope it demonstrates how police and the courts are acting to enforce court orders put in place to protect the public.
Non-recent child sex offences.
Skiddaw, Brownsover, CV21
Stephen Martin Tracey, 65, of Skiddaw, Rugby in Warwickshire appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday 17 May, where he was sentenced for three counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child, which took place between January 1987 and February 1994.
Tracey was found guilty on Thursday 28 March following a four-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Tracey came to police attention in 2022 when the victim, who was aged between 9 and 15 at the time of the offences, came forward to report the sexual abuse, which took place at a number of addresses in Waterlooville.
During the sentence hearing, the judge said that the offences fell in to the highest category of seriousness of sexual offences and that Tracey was an offender of particular concern due to the nature of the offending. He stated that Tracey caused severe psychological harm to the victim.
Speaking afterwards, officer in the case Detective Sergeant Samantha Brown from the Operation Amberstone team said “I cannot commend the victim in this case enough for the incredible bravery she has shown, not only in coming forward, but throughout this investigation and the resulting trial.
“Whilst no sentence will ever truly be able to give this woman her life back or the justice she deserves, we hope that today’s results, and knowing that Tracey will finally be behind bars, bring some degree of resolution to a horrific ordeal that started over 30 years ago.
“We also hope that today’s result reflects the seriousness with which we treat all reports of this kind and gives other victims of child sexual abuse the courage to come forward. We do however recognise that not everyone has the confidence to speak to police, but there are support services available that can help you if you are a victim of abuse.

Appearing at Warwick Crown Court last week he was jailed for 28 months.
Detective Chief Inspector Karl Faulkner from Warwickshire Police said: “Townsend is an extremely dangerous man and as soon as he was released from prison in March, he was under close supervision to ensure he was unable to cause any harm.
“SOPOs are extremely powerful tools that allow us to control the behaviour of dangerous offenders, preventing them from committing further criminal acts. As soon as we became aware Townsend had breached, he was arrested, put before the courts, and jailed.”

A convicted sex offender from Leamington who raped a woman in the backseat of his car while he filmed the assault has been jailed.
Victor Tsamo, 33, of St. Margaret's Road, Leamington, was sentenced today (May 11) at Warwick Crown Court to 13 years in prison with an extended licence period of four years following his release. He was convicted of rape and voyeurism following a trial in April 2023.
He was also sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for voyeurism and 12 months imprisonment for breach of the suspended sentence order, both to be served concurrently and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
On August 27, 2022, Tsamo befriended the woman who had been separated from her friends following a night out at a bar in Leamington.
CCTV footage from the club showed Tsamo watching the woman while she was drinking alcohol with her friends, and later following her as she left the club.
Tsamo was then seen by witnesses and captured on CCTV carrying her to his car.
He drove her to a remote location where raped her. She had no idea she had been assaulted when she awoke in the backseat of his car outside her house.
Tsamo then asked her on a date and when she refused, he told her he had just had sex with her and showed her a video of the offending.
When Tsamo was arrested, he admitted to having sex with the woman but claimed it had been consensual. He also admitted taking a video which showed him having sex with her but claimed she agreed to it.
However, the strong evidence from the woman, and the corroboration from witness statements from the victim’s friends, the staff at the nightclub, and CCTV footage saw Tsamo found guilty by the jury.

Luke Poland, 27, of Percy Street, Stratford was sentenced to 34 months in prison at Warwick Crown Court today (Wednesday 19 March).
He was also made subject of an indeifinte Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.

In 2017, Poland sexually assaulted a 12 year-old girl at his home.

Then in January this year, police were called to a shop in The Parade, Leamington following reports from a member of staff that a man had used his phone to film two young girls in the changing room.
Following a public CCTV appeal Poland was identified as the offender and arrested by police.
Detective Constable Simon Harvey from Leamington CID, who investigated the incident in Parade, Leamington, said: “Poland has a concerning sexual interest in children and is quite willing to act on his disturbing fantasies. He quite clearly poses a danger to young girls and deserves to be in prison.
“I would like to thank the members of the public who responded to our CCTV appeal; the information they provided helped us to bring Poland to justice.”
Detective Constable Matt Cowley, who investigated the other offences, said: “I would like to praise the bravery of all Poland’s victims. Their support resulted in the conviction of an offender whose predatory behaviour was clearly becoming increasingly dangerous.
“Hopefully, the outcome will give other victims of sexual offences the confidence to come forward in the knowledge that they will be listened to and supported, and that police will do everything in their power to bring dangerous offenders to justice.”

Sick pensioner confessed to assaulting schoolboy at least 74 times.
Stockton Grove, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32
A pensioner who confessed to assaulting a schoolboy at least 74 times has been locked up for his horrific sex abuse. Robert Newman raped and sexually assaulted the young boy in what has been described as one of the most shocking cases of abuse seen by detectives.
The 74-year-old first met the youngster in the late 90s before befriending the boy and his family. He then arranged to take his victim on days out before attacking him at his home.
Newman, of Stockton Grove, Leamington, admitted 21 counts of indecent assault and six counts of rape. He was jailed for 15 years and two months at Warwick Crown Court last week.
A court heard how the sex offender met his victim in Rugby, with most of the cruel abuse taking place at Newman's home in the town after he had groomed the boy. On one occasion, he assaulted his victim during a trip to Flecknoe, Warwickshire.
Newman's abuse then continued for four years when the boy was in his early teens. The convict admitted to sexually assaulting his young victim at least 74 times - although the exact number of times he carried out his abuse is likely to be higher, police said.
The paedophile was convicted following an investigation by Warwickshire Police. Investigating officer Detective Constable Liam Crouch, from CID at Rugby Police Station, said: "This is one of the most shocking cases of abuse I have seen.
"The victim of these horrendous offences was a child; he had every right to feel safe. Instead, he was subjected to the most abhorrent abuse.
"Newman groomed his victim and took sexual advantage of him over a prolonged period. The significant amount of time that passed since these offences occurred was no barrier to us investigating and bringing Newman to justice.
"As soon as these offences were reported we launched a thorough investigation that resulted in Newman receiving a significant custodial sentence. Warwickshire Police is committed to investigating sexual offences against children, regardless of the passage of time.
"The bravery of the victim meant that a serious sex offender has finally been brought to justice. Newman is likely to spend most of his remaining life behind bars and I hope this will bring some comfort to him."

Shuckburgh Grove, Leamington Spa, CV32
A SERIAL child sex offender from Leamington has been jailed after he admitted to attempting to engage a child in sexual communication.
Over several days in November, Alan Stringer sent explicit messages and photos of himself to the social media profile of a 13-year-old girl.
He eventually suggested they meet to have sex.
Officers from Warwickshire Police Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team were alerted to the behaviour and raided his house.
Stringer was only released from prison in July 2022 having served a prison sentence for similar offences and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to prevent his offending.
In interview Stringer admitted the offences and to breaching the order.
Appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Friday (January 20) 66-year-old Stringer, of Shuckburgh Grove, Leamington, was jailed for four years and three months after pleading guilty to two counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order, one count of arranging or facilitating the commission of sexual activity with a child and one count of attempting to engage a child in sexual communication.
Detective Constable Adam James from Warwickshire Police Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team said: “The social media account Stringer was communicating with quite clearly stated the owner was a 13-year-old girl yet he continued to send explicit messages to it over several days.
“His grooming behaviour was disgusting and despicable, and we know the kind of damage people like Stringer can cause. The fact we are able to identify this type of behaviour and bring offenders to justice should serve as a warning to others.”

Wood Street, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV10
A Nuneaton man has appeared before magistrates charged for five offences including indecent exposure and assaulting a police officer. Luke Armes, 34, of Wood Street, Nuneaton, appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 1.
He faced two counts of indecent exposure, one count of threatening behaviour towards someone else, one count of theft and one count of assault on a police officer. They related to an incident on July 29.
The court heard Armes climbed over the fence of his neighbour's garden where he pulled down his trousers and boxers before dancing around completely naked. Armes' neighbour was left upset by his actions after he refused to leave for 10 minutes - when he did leave he stole a bag of her clothes, the court heard.
He then went to the Tesco car park in Nuneaton where he punched a man, tried to take the man's child from a car and then attempted to take the keys from the ignition. Armes then exposed himself again but to a car full of children in the car park.
Warwickshire Police were called and when they attended the scene Armes headbutted an officer twice causing him an injury to his lip and forehead. When passing sentence, the judge was made aware of Armes' 105 previous convictions, four of which were assaults on an emergency worker.
Armes originally pleaded not guilty to all offences but later changed his pleas after he was told he would be remanded in custody until a trial date. His lawyer told the court he has a problem with alcohol and these events were a "moment of madness".
After pleading guilty to all five charges, he was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. Armes was also ordered to pay 100 compensation to his neighbour, the children he exposed himself to and 50 to the police officer he assaulted.
