A local radio DJ who was found with more than 600 indecent images of children on his computer has been spared jail. Paul Brownlee who has worked for Wave 102 in Dundee, Radio Forth in Edinburgh and Borders Radio was sentenced to two years supervision in the community and 200 hours of unpaid work. The DJ is a familiar face around the country due to his radio work and has fronted events with stars such as the Cheeky Girls. At a previous hearing Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Brownlee, 47, was a manager at Specsavers in St Andrews at the time of his arrest last April. He had no previous convictions but police, acting on a tip-off that indecent images of children might be found on devices at his home, raided last January. Brownlee, who now lives with his mother in the Borders, was in the flat with his partner and her child. Following a search by officers, his laptop was seized and passed on to the forces cybercrime unit. It contained contain 663 inaccessible indecent images of children including 16 category A, 30 category B and 617 category C images. Brownlee later admitted making the indecent photographs between January 2018 and January 2019. Stuart Hamilton, who represented Brownlee on Wednesday, said his client had demonstrated an appropriate understanding of the seriousness of the offences. Social work reports said Brownlee posed limited risk to the public and there were no protection issues. Sheriff Lorna Drummond told him that because he was a first offender and the number of images was in the 100s rather than the 1000s that she would not jail him. She said the community payback order was a direct alternative to custody and as well as his sentence she placed him on the sexual offenders register for two years.

A sports therapist who sexually assaulted more than 20 male victims during massage sessions has been jailed.  Matthew Priest fondled his clients after they had contacted his sports masseur business to be treated for muscle injuries.  
 
Priest, 41, carried out a three-year campaign of sexual assaults on the male clients at his Edinburgh flat where he operated his business, The Edinburgh Massage.The therapist admitted six attacks on men in December 2018 and was sentenced to a five-year Sexual Offenders Prevention Order, a two-year supervision order and unpaid work.Following press coverage of the case more victims contacted the police to report they had also been sexually assaulted by Priest.Priest pleaded guilty to a further 15 sex assaults on unsuspecting male clients at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

Sentencing him today, Sheriff Donald Corke said: “You pled guilty to 15 charges of sexual assault on men in the course of your work as a sports masseur.

“These further 15 cases have arisen from the publicity surrounding the case so it is no fault of the prosecution that they were not prosecuted at the same time.“You performed intimate massages on these men including the full removal of their clothing and massaging their groin area.
“Your behaviour was clearly harmful, your behaviour was planned and you abused your professional position. You even charged them as if you had provided the services they expected.”

Priest was jailed for 16 months and placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.Previously prosecutor Susan Dickson told the court victims included students, amateur runners and an Edinburgh Fringe performer who required a professional sports therapist to treat muscle injuries.
Most of the men contacted Priest for treatment after reading reviews of his services online while the pervert also made contact with one man in the changing rooms of a gym and offered to help him with his injuries.

The victims - who cannot be identified due to legal reasons - mostly believed the sexual touching by Priest was “ an accident” at the time but later reported the incidents.

Defending solicitor Matthew Nicolson said all the offences took place over the same time period and that his client was “a very different man and is getting on with his life”.The brief said Priest has set up two new businesses including a photography company and that he has “no intention of going back to his previous field of employment”.

Mr Nicolson added: ‘He fully understands these are serious charges and these are the sort of charges that custody would be in the forefront of any judge’s mind.”

Priest admitted sexually assaulting 15 men at his Easter Road home, between January 2015 and June 2018.

Priest offered £45 per hour advanced sports massage sessions and according to his website, which is now closed.

A menacing would-be rapist from Selsey who cornered a schoolgirl in an alleyway has been jailed for seven years.

Ewing Gilmour, 21, of Sparshott Road, Selsey, approached the teenage girl in Selsey offering her 100 for sex.
When she rejected his offer he stalked her and laid in wait to intercept the youngster.

At Portsmouth Crown Court prosecutor Paul Fairley said Gilmour followed the girl, overtaking her in an alleyway between Manor Road and Manor Lane in Selsey on May 29 last year.

She said no, no, no as she realised Gilmour was about to pounce.
Gilmour, who exposed himself, then grabbed her hair when he failed to pull down her trousers.

He threatened to punch her in the face as she fought wildly to escape his clutches, falling over in the process, the court heard.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, finally escaped and ran to a nearby home.

Jailing Gilmour for seven years with an extended three-year term, judge William Ashworth said: It was a brazen and determined attempt to rape a vulnerable victim.
He added: You stalked her and cornered her and attacked her.

A sexual harm prevention order bans him from contacting children for life and he must sign the sex offenders register for life.

At trial, Gilmour claimed he had been looking over fences to steal items and that is why the girl was able to identify his underwear as his trousers fell down exposing his FCUK underwear.

Jurors convicted Gilmour of attempted rape on November 19.
The court heard he is a failed Army recruit who was medically discharged.

The Parole Board will have you consider when to release Gilmour, and only when he has served at least two thirds of the seven-year term.
The three-year extended term will be served on licence.

As he was led to the cells Gilmour turned to supporters in the public gallery and blew a kiss toward them.
Investigating officer Steve Holden said: This was an attempt at a serious sexual assault and it was due to the bravery of the victim at the time, that prevented a worse outcome.

The victim has remained strong throughout the legal process, and I would like to thank her for that.
In addition, Id like to thank all the members of the public who provided CCTV and other information at the time and during our investigation.

With their support, a dangerous offender who has shown no remorse for his actions has been identified and imprisoned.

A Henbury man convicted of molesting two teenage girls has been jailed. Roger Loney, 45, of Satchfield Close, denied abusing the youngsters but was convicted after a trial.

A jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting one girl and three sexual assaults on a second. Judge James Patrick jailed him for three years. The judge barred him from working with children and vulnerable adults and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Sam Jones, prosecuting, told Bristol Crown Court Loney was found guilty of inappropriately touching both victims. Both gave impact statements saying how the abuse left them scared and traumatised.

One said: "The trauma left me feeling like an alien, like I forgot to be a normal individual...I felt very fragile and concerned. I've stopped any form of getting to know men.

"It didn't leave a bit of my life untouched. I hope the defendant can learn from this and not make the same mistake."

Derek Perry, defending, said his client - a man of previous good character - remains in denial about the offences. Mr Perry said Jamaican national Loney had felt "trapped, isolated and lonely" after coming to the UK.

The court heard his father died in October last year, and a mix of Covid and the court case prevented Loney from attending his funeral. Loney has not seen his elderly mum in Jamaica for some two years, Mr Perry said.

Police officer in the case, DC Mike Coleman, said: "The victims in this case have shown a great deal of bravery during this investigation and trial. I hope that the sentence given to Loney today will bring them some closure.

"Offending such as this is taken very seriously by the police and we will always seek to bring justice for the victims."

A man who sexually abused three young boys over a period of six years has been jailed for 10 years.

Claudio Sergio Da Silva, aged 51 years, of Monks Walk in East Cowes, began abusing his first victim in 2010.

Da Silva then went on to sexually assault two other boys who were under the age of 16 at the time. The assaults continued until 2016.

His reign of abuse was brought to an end when the brave boys came forward and reported it.

Following an investigation, Da Silva was charged with six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of sexual assault.

Da Silva denied the offences, but was convicted by a jury at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday 7 February.

He appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court today (Tuesday 11 February) where His Honour Judge Melville QC jailed him for 10 years, for what he described as "systematic abuse", and handed him an unlimited Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

PSI Claire Linton, from Isle of Wight CID, said: "I cannot emphasise enough the strength and bravery of these young boys. It is down to them that this dangerous sex offender has been taken off the streets.

"I would encourage anyone who has been victim of this type of offence to come forward and speak to us.

"We understand this can be a really difficult thing to do, but I hope the verdicts of the jury and the sentencing are reassurance that we take these allegations seriously and you will be listened to."

A lying rapist who attacked a drunk defenceless woman in a train toilet even called out to his oblivious wife mid-assault.

Predator Timothy Davies pounced after tricking his partner into thinking he was comforting the unwell victim on the Southeastern service to Ramsgate from Canterbury.

The former care-home boss led the slumped woman into a cubicle, where she drifted in and out of consciousness.

He attacked her as she became nauseated, even calling out to wife Cheryl, as she tried to open the locked door.

"I told my wife she was being sick because I didn't want her knowing I was having sex with another woman," the 45-year-old told the jury.

After his arrest Davies schemed to persuade the authorities his victim initiated intercourse.

He then dragged her through the courts after accusing her of lies since the 2018 attack, culminating in this week's trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

But a jury today unanimously convicted Davies of rape.

The ex-manager of Margate's Durham House, run by Ethelbert Children's Service, stared straight ahead clenching his jaw, as his friends and family gasped in the public gallery when the verdict was announced.

He appeared progressively more upset throughout today's hearing.

Jailing Davies for six years Recorder Stuart Trimmer QC, said: "Her life was turned upside down because of these five minutes inside the toilet cubicle.

"Not only did you do it you called out to your wife outside, while she was being sick.

"While those words were being uttered you were having sex with the drunken woman.

When Davies took to the stand on Thursday he claimed he was "embarrassed for cheating" on his wife and had "no idea" why his victim wanted him locked up.

He argued she "initiated sex" moments after falling unwell, but prosecutor Christopher Hewertson blasted his web of deceit.

"That, on your behalf is a flagrant lie, isn't it?" asked Mr Hewertson.

"Do you know why she was saying you had sex with her without her consent?"

"I don't know why she said there wasn't consent, no," Davies responded.

Mr Hewertson continued: "She was incapacitated in that toilet cubicle wasn't she?

"Her life was turned upside down because of these five minutes inside the toilet cubicle"...

"She was completely out of it, she was completely vulnerable."

"No she wasn't," Davies replied.

CCTV played in court showed Davies leaving the row of seats where he was sat with his wife, and escorting the drunk woman to the toilet.

When the pair enter the cubicle, his wife could be seen pacing up and down the carriage, seemingly looking for her husband.

She even stood outside and tried the handle as the attack unfolded, Davies claimed he couldn't let her in as the victim was being ill.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, Davies' victim said she was drunk and helpless.

Gordon Ross, defending Davies, asked her: "He didn't rape you did he?

"You had consensual sex in that toilet didn't you?

"You were aware of what was happening weren't you?"

"No I wasn't," the woman replied.

Asked about her frame of mind at the time of the attack, she said: "I just felt really sick and dis-orientated and dizzy.

"I didn't ask ask him to, I remember saying to him 'I know you know what you did (at the train station) and ran away'.

"But I can't remember anything else."

She alerted police and Davies, of previous good character, was arrested in front of his wife at their home in Lorina Road, Ramsgate, the next day.

The trial heard Davies resigned from his job overseeing vulnerable children shortly after the allegation surfaced and since worked as an Asda delivery driver.

His victim, however, said her life was thrown into turmoil after the attack, which she was made to feel was her "own fault."

Suffering panic attacks, uncontrollable crying and stress-related fits, she told the court giving evidence in the same room as her attacker was the "toughest experience in my life."

A man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for nine counts of sexual assault.

Paul John Britton, 56, of Walnut Close in Foulden near Swaffham, was charged with nine counts of sexual assault in 2007-2010 against a teenage girl which took place in Wirral and North Wales.

Britton was sentenced to nine years in prison today (Thursday February, 6) at Liverpool Crown Court after being convicted and was ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The offences were reported to police in January 2018, following which an investigation was launched.

Speaking after the case, detective constable Kevin Thomas said:

"We are pleased that Britton has been robustly sentenced, following this detailed investigation. The victim in this case has shown immense courage in coming forward, and we hope that this case encourages other victims of sexual offences to speak to police or via dedicated partner agencies.

"We treat all allegations of sexual offences sensitively and with compassion, and our specially trained officers will ensure that victims are listened to, safeguarded and supported every step of what can be a difficult and lengthy process.

"Time is not a barrier to justice, so if anybody else is suffering in silence I want you to know that there is help and support available, both from Merseyside Police, and from reliable and trusted support groups who will stand with you from the initial report and for as long as you need."

A man lured a Latvian teenager to Leicestershire with the promise of a job - but then forced her into prostitution, a court heard today.

Andrew Newton, of Shilton Road, Barwell, arranged for the 18-year-old to travel to the UK in 2010 and forced her to have sex with a succession of men at an address in the Hinckley area.

After she raised the alarm and turned to police for help, detectives established Newton had exploited a second Latvian national, also 18 at the time, in the same way.

The 53-year-old appeared at Leicester Crown Court last week to admit four counts of inciting and controlling prostitution for gain.

He appeared at the same court today and was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison.

The first victim to come to police attention in 2016. She revealed to officers she was only 18-years-old when she first met Newton in 2010 after she answered a job advertisement offering work in the UK.

Releasing details of the case, Leicestershire Police said: "Newton met the teenager in Latvia and made arrangements for her to travel to England a month later.

"He met her at East Midlands Airport and took her to a flat in Hinckley where he forced her to remove her clothes and took photos of her before making her sign a contract.

"Over a period of months, Newton arranged for men to come to the flat where the victim was expected to have sex with them.

"Feeling threatened by Newton, she was too afraid of his controlling behaviour to refuse.

"He gave her very little money which left her feeling trapped and dependent upon him."

The woman found the courage to contact police in 2016 and told officers what was happening to her.

The force added: "From inquiries carried out, officers identified a further victim who had also come to the UK from Latvia.

Jozef Janczura, aged 34 of Laburnum Road, Southampton has been given a 20 year extended sentence today (31 January) for raping and assaulting an 18-year-old woman in Riverside Park in Southampton on December 2, 2018.

More than a year after this terrible crime happened to a young woman, a Jury at Southampton Crown Court delivered a unanimous verdict of guilty on both counts on December 11, 2019.

Appearing at court today to be sentenced, the judge handed Janczura a 20 year extended prison sentence for the brutal attack.

The sentence comes after the woman reported that whilst she was walking along Woodmill Lane in December 2018, a man unknown to her grabbed her neck and raped her in a wooded area in Riverside Park between the skate park and tennis courts.

Officers investigating the case immediately launched an appeal for witnesses including residential CCTV and dash cam footage.

The woman was supported by specialist officers and forensic evidence obtained was sent off for fast track analysis. On Dec 7, officers found out that the DNA found did not match any other DNA on the national police database. Following this news, an extensive CCTV strategy was planned alongside consultation with the National Crime Agency in a bid to identify the man responsible.

One of the traumatised victims of a paedophile pensioner locked up for 15 years has told how they hope their attacker dies in jail.

Both victims of David Jepson were under the age of 13 when he committed his catalogue of sex crimes.

They were carried out around a decade ago and both victims have been left psychologically scarred.

One of them had turned to drugs and alcohol in an effort to deal with what had happened to them as a child. 

Their victim impact statement said: “Now justice has been done I may be able to rebuild my life. I hope he never sees another day outside. He does not deserve to be in this world.”

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard how the 76-year-old made one victim pull their trousers down while he performed a sex act on himself.

And he simulated sex with the second victim on a settee as well as indecently groping them.

Prosecutor Steven Bailey said: "The defendant was in his 60s at the time.

"One of the victims broke down in 2016. The allegation was reported to a social worker.

"The second victim told police the defendant would undress them or tell them to take off whatever they were wearing. He would lie on top of them and simulate sexual activity."

The defendant has always denied the allegations and told police the victims were telling lies.

But Jepson, of Tasman Square, Northwood, was this week convicted of four offences of causing a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity; two offences of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13; and two charges of penetrative sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

Caroline Harris, mitigating, said Jepson has learning difficulties.

 She said: “He has never been able to read or write. These difficulties have been ongoing for a great number of years.

“He is someone who has tried to work hard where possible and he has lived reasonably independently. He will find incarceration particularly difficult.”

Judge Paul Glenn described the children as 'young' and 'vulnerable' when the offences took place.

He added: "These were planned offences.

“The psychological harm is severe for both victims. One of them sustained physical harm. You knew what you were up to.”

A MAN who performed a sex act in front of customers and staff in McDonald's in York city centre has been jailed.

Lewis James Barnes, 21, has also been banned from unzipping or removing his trousers or shorts in public for the next 10 years.

York magistrates heard he exposed himself and performed the sex act in the fast food restaurant in Blake Street in York early on October 6.

“It was prolonged and it was in a very busy public place in McDonald's,” the Bench told him.

“It would have offended staff and customers.”

Barnes, of Pavilion Square, Scarborough, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency and failure to attend court at a previous hearing.

He was jailed for 24 weeks and ordered to pay a £122 statutory surcharge.

He was also put on the sex offenders’ register for five years and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, also for five years.

Under the order he is banned from unzipping or removing his trousers, shorts or any other garment covering his private parts in public and has to use a private cubicle in any public toilets.

He is also barred from McDonald's in Blake Street for five years and forbidden to contact, either directly or indirectly, those who gave evidence against him for the same period.

For him, Craig Robertson said he had issues which he knew he needed to tackle.

He had had a “complete breakdown in his behaviour” last July which had led to him committing offences.

But in January 2020, he was a changed man.

“He is embarrassed, he is ashamed,” said the defence solicitor.

Mr Robertson disputed a probation service assessment that Barnes was such a high risk offender that he was unsuitable for community sentences such as unpaid work or rehabilitation activity days.

A former Lincolnshire councillor who was jailed for downloading images of child abuse has appeared in court again after breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

Ian Dolby, of North Road Sleaford, had been jailed for two years in August 2017 after admitting to downloading images of children.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty to 23 charges of making an indecent image of a child on the second day of his trial after police found 700 computer discs at his home in Sleaford.

Dolby was placed on the sex register for 10 years and given a sexual harm prevention order to control his behaviour when released.

Now he has appeared in court again after breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

The former Sleaford Town Councillor refused to hand over a device capable of accessing the internet for inspection when he was asked to by the authorities on August 29, last year.

The former councillor appeared at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on December 12, last year, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Dolby was fined 150 and ordered to pay a 32 surcharge to fund victim's services and 85 in costs by magistrates.

At his original trial in 2017, the court was told police found a stash of more than 700 computer disks containing pornography in Dolby's bedroom as part of their inquiries after officers arrested his lodger for an unrelated matter.

Of these, 45 disks contained child pornography, including more than 500 movies lasting 184 hours. These had been downloaded between 2010 and 2013.

Mark Knowles, mitigating for Dolby, said 90 per cent of the material found in his home had been adult pornography and that he had an obsessive personality.

"He understands that he has a problem," he said. "He is desperate to get to the bottom of his difficulties.

"He is very much a loner who spends the majority of his free time in his room on his computer."

Sending Dolby to prison, Judge Simon Hirst had said: "You have done everything you possibly could to avoid facing up to your wrong doing.

"This type of offending is not victimless in any way. Every still photograph and every frame of a film has the face of a child who has been sexually abused in the most cruel way imaginable.

"In behaving as you did, you perpetuated the market and distribution of such images and encouraged the making of more images."

But as Omer had not returned after the set date, the manager at Cash Express accessed the laptop on April 12, 2018 in order to restore it to factory and settings and then sell it on.

Hull Crown Court heard the manager found two files entitled "boys" and the other "girls" and when she opened them she disturbingly discovered indecent images of children and reported this to the police.

"The category A images included penetrative sex of children between the ages of 10 and 16 years old including penetration of males with sex toys," said Mr Robinson.

"Other prohibited images included cartoon-style illustrated images of children under the age of 12.

"In his police interview the defendant said he had accessed the images using Tumblr and thought that only lawful images could be uploaded to the site and gave a no comment answer to whether he is sexually attracted to children.

"The defendant's past convictions are not similar and were for dishonesty, but he has nothing on his record since 1985.

"The aggravating factors are the videos and the age and vulnerability of the children".

Defending Omer, Kylie Peach said that he was "bitterly ashamed of his actions" and a lonely and vulnerable man with a heroin addiction and "clearly in dire need of assistance".

"Mr Omer is bitterly ashamed of his actions and has been out of trouble for more than 30 years and is a man that can live comfortably within the parameters of the law," she said.

"He says that he has 'learnt his lesson'. He is a vulnerable man and his last relationship ended 10 years ago and since then he has lived a lonely life. He has no friends or family and goes for days without speaking to people.

"He struggles with his mental health and has schizophrenia and depression, but his medication has not been sufficient and his mental health has declined, with Mr Omer being referred to the crisis team before.

"He slipped into using heroin to mask his feelings but has self referred to Renew and wants to go on a drug rehabilitation programme to address his addiction.

"He is at a low risk of re-offending and at a low risk to the public and is clearly in dire need of assistance".

Sentencing him to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, Recorder Tom Little QC gave Omer full credit for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity and also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a 30 day drug rehabilitation programme.

Addressing Omer, Recorder Little said: "You have not been in front of the criminal courts for many years and you have pleaded guilty for offences relating to indecent images and videos found on your electronic devices.

"On March 10 you took your laptop to Cash Express and they waited 28 days in case you wanted to buy it back with interest. But after this time was up, the manager accessed the laptop in order to sell it and found folders labelled 'boys' and 'girls' and this set about the investigation.

"On all four of your devices images and videos were found, spanning across two years in which you viewed them including internet searches.

"You have become addicted to heroin as well as suffering depression.

"Having considered the guidelines it seems that in conjunction with a sexual harm prevention order and assessment by the probation service for drug rehabilitation, there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation so I am willing to suspend your prison sentence.

A CHILD abductor who bombarded an under-age girl with more than 800 phone calls in under a month while he was in prison and in breach of a sexual harm prevention order, has been handed more jail time.

Kyron Burgess, aged 22, formerly of Hart Gardens, Newport, persistently contacted the teenager while he was an inmate at Parc Prison in Bridgend.

He was serving an 18-month custodial sentence imposed last June after pleading guilty to child abduction.

Prosecutor Christopher Evans said the latest offences were committed two months later, between August 1-24 2019.

Judge Daniel Williams, who sentenced Burgess last year, was told the defendant made 851 calls during that period, an average of 35 a day.

Newport Crown Court was told that no one at Parc Prison noticed he was contacting the girl, who was under the age of 16, and who he was prohibited from communicating.

Burgess admitted being in breach of a sexual harm prevention order.

Mr Evans said the defendant had 15 previous convictions for 31 offences, which also included harassment.

Gareth Williams, mitigating, said: “He received her mobile phone number whilst in custody. He is aged 22 and not mature enough to heed an order of the court.”

Judge Williams told Burgess: “This was a brazen breach of a court order. It is so serious that only an immediate term of custody can be justified.”

The defendant was jailed for eight months to run consecutively to his 18-month prison sentence for child abduction.

Burgess must also pay a victim surcharge upon his release from custody.
