A CANNABIS farmer caught with 77,000 worth of the illegal drug and as well as indecent images of children has been jailed. Nezir Slemaj appeared at Newcastle Crown Court earlier this month where he was sentenced to 16 months behind bars. The 20-year-old first came to the attention of police when his home on Northcote Street, Newcastle was searched by officers back in August last year. A total of 68 mature plants and 134 others at various stages of growth were seized alongside equipment valued at around 10,000. When Slemaj was arrested, two mobile phones were also recovered and examined with detectives later uncovering a range of horrific indecent images and videos. Slemaj was later charged and appeared at Newcastle Crown court on December 16 where he was convicted of three counts of making indecent photographs of children, one count of possessing extreme pornography and producing a Class B drug and was remanded in custody. On March 16, he was sentenced at the same court to a total of 16 months behind bars, given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. Detective Constable Dan Hall, from Northumbria Police, said: As a force we are committed to protecting our communities from any form of criminality and the ripple effects that can happen as a result. In this case, a simple house search led to the seizure and destruction of a large quantity of cannabis which could have made its way onto our streets and saw the profits reinvested into further crime. As part of our thorough investigation, a number of indecent images were also found on Slemajs phone and added to the solid file of evidence we were able to put before the courts. Slemaj had no previous convictions and what initially began as a drugs investigation has resulted in the conviction of a potentially dangerous sex offender who is now registered with law enforcement.

A MAN who raped a student on her way home was caught after she made a video call and her friend recorded it. Just before 12pm on Wednesday, September 22 the woman in her 20s was dropped off by a taxi in The Avenue, Brighton. She was attacked but managed to make a video call to a friend who reported it to the police. Officers managed to use the footage to track down where the attack happened and identify the rapist. And now Ramees Akkara, 28, of Upper Bevendean Avenue in Brighton, has been found guilty by a jury at Hove Crown Court. Police visited the victims address at 2.40am after she had returned home alone and an investigation was launched after officers suspected she may have been the victim of a sexual assault. The woman was supported by specialist officers while evidence was gathered, but her whereabouts during the time of the attack, and a crime scene, were unknown. Over the following days, detectives carried out enquiries around the Upper Bevendean Avenue area, supported by a range of specialist officers. On Friday, October 1 detectives entered an unlocked property in Upper Bevendean Avenue and recognised it from the recorded video call. Five men who returned to the property were arrested on suspicion of rape and all five were interviewed over the next 24 hours. After DNA test results were fast-tracked, a forensic sample taken from the victim matched the DNA of one of the suspects, Ramees Akkara, who was re-arrested while enquiries continued. On Monday, October 4 he was charged with rape and remanded in custody until his trial began on Tuesday, March 22. This week a jury unanimously found Akkara guilty of rape and he was sentenced to eight years in prison. He will also be placed on the sex offenders register for life. Detective Chief Inspector Jon Gillings said: This was a hugely distressing case for the young woman involved, who fell victim to a predatory offender in Akkara. I would like to personally thank her for the incredible bravery she showed in supporting the investigation, which included giving evidence in court under extremely stressful circumstances. Without her courage and support, this conviction would not have been possible. My thanks also go out to her quick-thinking friend who recorded the call, and to all of the people who helped to secure this conviction. It was an incredible display of teamwork and I feel hugely proud to have worked with the individuals on this case. Many worked extended hours, putting their home lives second to identifying and charging a dangerous male who is now, due to their actions, no longer on the streets.

A 35-year-old man has appeared in court charged with three child sex offences. John Edward Iles faces charges of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to watch an image of sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. Nataline Cheeseman, prosecuting, told Swindon Magistrates Court this morning (30 March) that the defendant had allegedly spoken to a 13-year-old girl online. However, the girl was actually a paedophile hunter from Justice for Innocence. Whilst a sting was not carried out on Iles by the group, evidence of his alleged illicit behaviour was handed to Wiltshire Police to investigate. On hearing that one of the offences is indictable only and the other two charges are inextricably linked, all three charges were sent up to Swindon Crown Court. Iles solicitor, Terry McCarthy, indicated that pleas of guilty would be entered. The defendant, of Marlow Avenue, Swindon, was released on bail with conditions not to have any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18. Iles can have supervised contact with children under the terms of the conditions. However, the childs parent must be informed of the allegations before the court. He will appear at Swindon Crown Court next month for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

A computer support technician was found with sickening images of child abuse and bestiality after a major investigation into "extremely disturbing" online messages.

IT expert Jeffrey Birkett now realised that real children were involved in the abuse and it was "beginning to dawn" on him just how troubling and disturbing it was. He slipped into looking at the images after he became isolated during lockdown but the evidence against him was "robust", Hull Crown Court heard.

Birkett, 47, of The Oval, Pocklington, admitted possessing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography on August 21, 2020. Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said that the National Crime Agency intercepted messages that were "extremely disturbing" and contained indecent material.

"An investigation was launched into who had actually been dispatching these messages," said Mr Welch. They were later traced to Birkett's Pocklington home but no charges had been brought in relation to that matter. His computer equipment was, however, seized.

Two Category C indecent images of children were found as well as 10 extreme pornography bestiality images and 40 videos. David Godfrey, mitigating, said that the offences were troubling and disturbing and it was something that Birkett needed help to tackle.

"He readily appreciates that his behaviour has brought considerable shame on him and those around him," said Mr Godfrey. "He recognises that for every child, there is a victim. There is some difficulty of thinking. He is somebody who is finding it very difficult to articulate why he did what he did."

The evidence that the investigators found was "robust" and he had pleaded guilty. Birkett worked in the IT industry and had been married for six-and-a-half years, as well as being previously married.

He became isolated during lockdown and was "really struggling" at the time. He had no previous convictions. Judge Michael Slater told Birkett: "I accept that it's beginning to dawn on you how serious these matters are. It's clear to me that you are both contrite and extremely apprehensive of today's proceedings and so you should be."

Birkett was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence, 150 hours' unpaid work and 30 days' rehabilitation. He was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for 10 years. His computer equipment will be forfeited.

"Should you breach it in any way, you will be brought before me and you will have a hard job persuading me not to send you immediately to prison," said Judge Slater. "You are treading a tight rope here, should you have any feelings or desires to commit any similar offences in the future, and you have been suitably warned."

A known sex offender who was caught with images and videos of child abuse and bestiality on four separate occasions over the course of four years has been jailed. Andrew Sawyer escaped a prison sentence in 2013 after being caught but continued to search out the vile material, Leeds Crown Court heard. The 44-year-old admitted 23 separate offences dating between July 2016 and February 2021. Judge Mushtaq Khokhar told him this week: "These are very serious offences that you have been committing repeatedly. "In 2013 you were sentenced for possessing indecent images of children and received a non-custodial sentence and you did the sex offending programme. "You learned nothing. You knew you were in trouble but you carried on and you were not concerned about the consequences. "The time has come to learn that you can't go on committing these offences, it's about time you changed your lifestyle." Prosecutor David McGonigal said that police first arrested Sawyer in September 2017 and found hundreds of images that he had downloaded to his phone over a 10-month period. They included Category A - the most serious child abuse pictures - along with Category B and C, prohibited pictures of children and extreme images of people performing sexual acts with animals. During interview, he told police that he "must have felt horny that day" and there would be "no harm in looking". He was arrested again while on bail in April 2018 and his phone seized, leading police to find hundreds of abuse images and videos and more bestiality images. Officers found that he had also been chatting to other perverts online and shared material. He was arrested again at his home in Outwood in April 2020 when more images and videos were recovered. Hundreds more images were found on two phones when Sawyer, of Mountbatten Crescent, was visited again by police in February 2021. Satpal Roth-Sharma, mitigating for Sawyer, said he had been a hard-working man who worked in telesales but lost his job in 2009. He began to drink heavily and started trying drugs. She said: "He has an addictive personality, he spent a lot of time looking at adult porn and that progressed. "His explanation for doing this was to simply fill his days and occupy his time." A probation report said there was a high risk of Sawyer offending again. Jailing him for 40 months, Judge Khokhar said: "I would be failing in my public duty if I did not impose a custodial sentence." He also said he would be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which will limit his internet use, make it illegal for him to delete his search history, and gives the police access to his electronic devices at any point. The court heard that he had been held on remand since February last year.

A RAPISTS supporter shouted you lot are d***heads from the public gallery as a judge jailed his friend for four-and-a-half years. Clayton Moiloa, 27, had denied raping the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, when he was in his early teens in the late 2000s. But jurors at Oxford Crown Court found him guilty of two counts of rape in January. He was acquitted of other, similar, charges. On Monday, as Judge Maria Lamb told Moiloa you are a sex offender and would remain on the sex offender register for the rest of his life, a man in the public gallery was heard to snort and repeat hes not. All you lot are d***heads, he said. Hes not a sex offender. Hes not. During the trial, jurors heard that the victim initially told a friend with whom she played computer games online about Moiloas assaults. Her mother spoke to her in 2016 about going to the police, but it wasnt until after she disclosed the assaults to a support worker in November 2019 that detectives became involved. The girl was said to have suffered flashbacks to what happened. Mitigating, Alistair Grainger said his client had had a shocking start in his life. He was exposed to domestic violence at an early age and suffered it himself, the court heard. As a youth and young man, he was in and out of court. However, he had no convictions for serious violence or sexual offending, Mr Grainger said as he tried to convince the judge that Moiloa should not receive an extended sentence as a dangerous offender. Sentencing Moiloa to four-and-a-half years imprisonment, Judge Lamb noted the defendants mitigation, including his educational difficulties and mental health problems. You were somebody who experienced domestic violence both by witnessing it [happening] to other family members and you also experienced it and were a recipient of domestic abuse violence towards you as well in your young years, she said. You were clearly a troubled youngster. The report both of the psychologist and the author of the pre-sentence report makes that clear. Judge Lamb said that, had Moiloa been an older youth when he carried out the assaults, she would have taken a starting point of nine years imprisonment. However, she reduced it to four-and-a-half years bearing in mindthat you were very young, you were very troubled at the time. She said she was not finding Moiloa to be a dangerous offender, as he had not gone on to commit offences that would attract an extended sentence. Moiloa, now of HMP Bullingdon but formerly of Oxford, was made subject to indefinite sexual harm prevention and restraining orders limiting his access to children and banning him from contacting his victim.

A MAN has been jailed for a series of sexual offences, including two rapes, against a young boy over a ten-year period. Over a period of time, Simon Berry groomed a child in his local community, who was aged under ten. Having gained the boys trust, Berry, who was in his early 20s at the time, systematically assaulted him for nearly ten years. Detective Constable Stewart Cameron, of the Brighton and Hove safeguarding investigation unit, said Berry denied all wrongdoing, which meant that the victim, now himself in his twenties, had to give evidence at court. Now aged 33, Berry has been sentenced to 13-years in prison having been convicted of 16 counts of sexual assaults on the boy, including two rapes. In addition, Berry, of Whitehawk Road, Brighton, will also serve a further two years on extended prison licence. At Southwark Crown Court, he was told that he will be a registered sex offender for life and was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, also to last for life, severely restricting his access to children and to digital communications devices. Detective Constable Cameron said the victims evidence was pivotal in securing Berry's convictions. "He has now faced justice at last, another example of the way in which we can successfully investigate such predatory offenders and safeguard local communities, he said.

A man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage schoolgirl.

Carl Briggs, 20, appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Monday changed with three counts of sexual assault on a female. Briggs, of Essex Street, Middlesbrough, spoke in court to confirm his identify and enter his three guilty pleas.

During the short hearing, the court heard the three incidents took place between June and December 2018.

The charges say Briggs 'intentionally touched a girl aged 14 and that touching was sexual when she did not consent and he did not reasonably believe that she was consenting.'

No further details of the case were outlined.

District Judge Helen Cousins granted Briggs unconditional bail and ordered for a pre-sentence report to be prepared for a hearing on April 27. The case is listed for mention on April 14.

He had a history of other flashing antics A serial flasher grinned at a shocked woman as he brazenly exposed himself to her while she was walking through Hull city centre on her way to work. Michael Lee pulled his trousers down as he sat on the pavement, leaving the woman upset and scared by what he had blatantly done in broad daylight. He had a history of other flashing antics, including more serious incidents involving children, and he had served previous prison sentences, Hull Crown Court heard. Lee, 38, of The Crossings, Great Union Street, Hull, admitted exposure on July 29. Richard Thompson, prosecuting, said that a woman was on her way to work at 8.50am after parking in Hull City Centre and was walking along Freetown Way. She saw Lee sitting on the pavement. "She was wary of him because of the way he was hanging around and his general appearance and demeanour," said Mr Thompson. "As she passed, he asked if she had any spare change." The woman noticed that, while he was speaking to her, he was exposing himself and all his private parts were visible. "It looked as if he had pulled his trousers down and he was holding the waistband of his trousers in order to expose himself," said Mr Thompson. "She was shocked initially and felt scared and anxious. Before she turned away, she noticed that he was looking at her and smiling. She called him a 'dirty b*****d' as she walked away." The incident lasted a few seconds only. She carried on walking throughout the incident so as "not to entertain his behaviour" but, when she got to work, she spoke to a colleague and the police were alerted. The woman had since decided to park closer to work but this would now cost her money because she would have to pay for her own parking if she parked nearer to work. "It was hard to say how it would impact her in the future," said Mr Thompson. The woman had said: "It will definitely affect my confidence walking around on my own, especially in quiet areas." Lee has three previous convictions for exposure and had been jailed by Hull magistrates for six months in 2006. That offence had been committed shortly after he was released from a previous prison sentence. Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, mitigating, said that Lee had a troubled history and a 19-page pre-sentence report on him was not at all positive in suggesting ways of helping him. Judge Mark Bury told Lee: "You clearly have some serious issues that need to be urgently addressed because, unless they are addressed, I can see you committing more of this type of offence." The latest exposure offence was not as serious as some of Lee's other ones because no children were involved this time and he was not committing any sex acts. Lee was jailed for 14 months but, because he had been in custody, he was expected to be released as "time served" shortly. He must register as a sex offender for 10 years.

A PERVERT pestered eight girls aged as young as 11 for naked pictures and even attempted to meet up with two for sex. But, unbeknown to him, shop worker Jordan Hince was actually being ensnared in a paedophile hunter sting. The 22-year-old, from Orford, was jailed for two-and-a-half years on Friday, March 25, for his seven-day campaign of online grooming. Liverpool Crown Court heard that the defendant was involved in lewd chats with the decoy Facebook profiles, who claimed to be aged between over the space of a week in August last year. He also sent a number of the accounts images in which he was exposing himself. Hince, of Poplars Avenue, told them that they would become really cool if they sent him indecent images claiming that all girls do it. The B&M shelf stacker urged a 12-year-old to open her legs and send a picture of her fu fu and pleaded with her not to tell anyone, adding that it would be a secret between them. He said that doing so would make her the most popular and queen of every school. Hince suggested to an 11-year-old that they meet up and walk around town before going to her grandmas house for sex. The paedophile told her that all she had to do was get naked and he would do the rest and that he would help her learn before their meeting. He also asked one 14-year-old if she would be his secret girlfriend, telling her: I love you babe. Hince then made arrangements to meet up with her at Central Station so that they could have secret sex and invited her to stay the night after asking if he could undress her slowly and take pictures of her naked. But he was instead confronted by the paedophile hunters, who made a citizens arrest before calling the police. The defendant who has no previous convictions confessed to officers that he knew what he was doing but wasnt a bad person and admitted that he was turned on. Hince admitted eight counts of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child, four of attempting to cause a child to look at sexual activity and two charges of attempting to meet a child after grooming during an earlier hearing. Defence barrister Michael Bagley told the court: Its a depressing and saddening picture. It seems he has become a socially isolated individual. Hes a lonely individual and he has a difficult background. Hes not academically a high-flying individual. Over the course of seven days, hes done something of which hes deeply ashamed. He didnt seem to understand the seriousness of it at the time. He is 22, but a good deal younger than that emotionally and intellectually too. Because of his character, it may just be possible to suspend the sentence with a view to actively engage with him so that societys concern in the long run can be addressed. But Hince who was supported in the public gallery by his mum and granddad was imprisoned and handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, as well as being told to pay a victim surcharge. Sentencing, judge David Hale said: Over the period of about a week last summer, you engaged in contact with a number of Facebook profiles purporting to be girls aged 11 to 14 years old. You did that quite deliberately. As it turned out, none of them were real children but you werent to know that. You rapidly moved the conversations towards sexual matters. Worryingly, two of them you expressed an interest in meeting. In relation to the 14-year-old, arrangements were made and you went to see her hoping to have sex with her. Fortunately, they were paedophile hunters who behaved very respectfully. You were arrested and nothing in the event happened, but you wanted it to. If you found a 14-year-old girl, you wanted to have sex with her. You have led a lonely and unhealthy life, only supported by your mother. The number of attempts you made to contact children and the fact that you did eventually go and meet one and make plans for another make it impossible for me to release you today.

A boy who woke to find a paedophile performing a sex act on him has finally got justice - nearly 20 years later.

The victim, then aged just 14, was sexually abused by Jeff Knibb while he slept one night in the early 2000s.

But when he told his mother, a judge said it seemed she 'didn't want to take matters further and said he shouldn't be saying things like that'.

Two decades later, the now-adult victim saw a newspaper article in September 2019 about Knibb being jailed for similar sexual offences.

Knibb, 50, from Huyton, had been locked up for nine years for molesting two boys - one while he was sleeping - in the 1980s and 1990s.

Liverpool Crown Court heard seeing Knibb's face made the victim physically sick but also led to him making a formal complaint to the police.

Martine Snowdon, prosecuting, said the boy told officers how he had woken up to find Knibb in his bed molesting him.

She said: 'The defendant appeared to be shocked to be discovered and told him to go back to sleep.' Ms Snowdon said a victim personal statement outlined how 'terrifying' the abuse was at the time and how anxious it left the boy feeling.

She told the court the victim described in particular 'the impact he felt when he saw the report of the other offences in the newspaper'. Ms Snowdon said: 'He had flashbacks, was physically shivering and was physically sick reading about those offences.'

At his sentencing in September 2019, the same court had heard how Knibb abused two children when he himself was aged between 16 and 21.

That included molesting one boy up to 20 times, including an occasion when the victim woke up to find the pervert abusing him.

That victim said the abuse ruined his life and left him contemplating suicide and self-medicating with alcohol. The other victim said being molested affected his whole life and that he blamed himself for what happened.

Knibb admitted 12 counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child in respect of those offences. Sentencing him on that occasion, Judge David Aubrey, QC, said he had 'destroyed their childhood' and 'scarred' his victims 'emotionally and psychologically for the rest of their lives'.

When arrested over the latest attack, which happened when he was in his 30s, Knibb said he would confess, but then gave a no comment interview to police.

Knibb, most recently of Paynesholme, Paston, Peterborough, later pleaded guilty to one count of indecent assault.

Kevin Liston, defending, asked for credit for Knibb's guilty plea, which he entered at a plea and trial preparation hearing. Mr Liston accepted his client would receive a prison sentence consecutive to the term that he was already serving.

However, he asked the judge to take into account that Knibb was serving 'a lengthy sentence already'. He told the court the earliest date his client could be released was currently January 28, 2024.

Recorder Ian Harris paid tribute to the courage of Knibb's latest victim. The judge told the paedophile: 'He said he's now felt a weight off his shoulders now he's spoken out.

'He said when he saw your face in the Liverpool ECHO he went shivery and cold and vomited - to know other people had suffered as he had. He is to be praised for his bravery in speaking out.'

Recorder Harris sentenced Knibb to two and a half years in prison, to be served consecutive to his existing sentence. This will have the effect of extending his release date by 15 months.

Knibb already has to sign on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

A man who groomed a teenage girl by plying her with alcohol has been jailed. Jordan Robinson, 21, met the girl at the park before he began inviting her and her friends back to a flat in Manchester. He plied them with alcohol, namely vodka, Minshull Street Crown Court heard. The girl, 13, then began visiting the flat alone where Robinson continued giving her alcohol with the intent to commit a sexual offence. Following a trial, he was found guilty of being an adult meeting a child following grooming, and was acquitted of an offence of rape and supplying cannabis. On Thursday (March 17) he was jailed for two years. The court heard that the girl was having problems at home when she met Robinson, then 19, in the park. He befriended her and the group she was with and invited them back to a flat in Manchester, which he had essentially moved into in Autumn 2019. The flat operated as a free house for the children in that it gave them a space to congregate away from parental eyes and to drink alcohol, prosecutor Jon Close said. The victim drank vodka that was provided by the defendant and was attending the address 2-3 times per week initially with her other friends, but then, at his invitation, she began to visit alone again 2-3 times per week. Robinson continued providing her with alcohol to the extent that she needed a period of hours to sober up before she went home due to her being in a heavy state of intoxication. By virtue of the jurys verdict, Robinson intended to commit a sexual offence. During the trial, jurors heard evidence of a friend finding the girl intoxicated or having consumed cannabis, in Robinsons company and in a state of undress. In a victim personal statement, the girl said that her life had been ruined and everything had been taken from her'. She said she was shaken up and said that her childhood had been taken away from her. Robinson was said to have no previous convictions. Mitigating, Mark Fireman said that although his client was 19, he was a young 19 and had problems of his own. He perhaps wasnt behaving in a manner a 19-year-old would behave, he said. He was diagnosed with ADHD, and is somebody with particular difficulties. He chose to spend lots of his time with people younger than himself. Mr Fireman added that his client started drinking alcohol and was perhaps not used to it. Sentencing, Recorder Michael Hayton QC said: You chose to associate with them, on the conviction of the jury, for the purpose that it was for some sexual gratification of some sort in the future. Whatever rights and wrongs, your behaviour had an enormous impact on a young girl. It is very clear she will be scarred by your actions for many years to come, perhaps throughout her life. What you were doing with these young girls was attempting to engage in sexual gratification in the future. Having heard your evidence, it is quite clear you are capable of manipulating the facts and circumstances. You suggested you were offering friendship and care to those who came to the flat in their early teens, who were plied with drink by you. I feel I am not able to do anything other than impose a sentence of immediate imprisonment. Robinson, of Haddon Green, was jailed for two years, made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years, and must sign onto the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

A married hospital surgeon who 'squeezed' a colleague's breasts at a boozy work Christmas party has been jailed for a year.

Jon Smith, 44, of Weeton, North Yorkshire, also 'aggressively' rubbed her crotch area over her trousers as they travelled in the back of a packed fellow consultant's Audi to an afterparty.

The 28-year-old woman, who was engaged to be married the following year, told Bradford Crown she was 'scared' to report Smith because he'd bragged he was 'the best orthopaedic surgeon in Yorkshire' and the hospital needed him.

Bradford Crown Court heard Smith was employed as a surgeon at the Spire Healthcare hospital, in Elland, West Yorkshire.

Prosecutor Jayne Beckett told the jury that there was a staff Christmas party on 14 December, 2019, at Bertie's, in Elland.

Mrs Beckett said it was a busy event with a 'great deal of drink and merrymaking.'

At 1am the next day the complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, found herself crammed in the rear footwell of a packed car bound for a house party.

Smith was sat on the rear seat and 'hoisted' her immediately onto his lap by putting both hands around her waist.

'She did not want to sit in that position,' said Mrs Beckett.

The complainant, giving evidence from behind a screen, told the jury there were about 80 to 100 guests at the Bertie's party and there was a lot of food and drink and dancing.

She said she had about five glasses of Prosecco, but didn't want to drink any more because she was going for Sunday lunch with her fianc's parents.

After Bertie's she said she 'squished' herself into the rear footwell of another consultant's black Audi. There were already four people on the rear seat, including Smith.

She was wearing black trousers, a black crop top, and leather jacket. She was only wearing stick-on nipple covers under the crop top, she told the jury.

'He started to put his hands up my back under my jacket and started caressing it. It felt like he was massaging my shoulders and shoulder blades.

'He said to some of the ladies that I had a sexy back.'

She said he then moved his hands down and she felt his finger tips under her trouser tops.

'He said to people in the car that things had changed between him and his wife since they'd had children,' she told the jury.

Six footer Smith was acting 'weird', the court heard.

'He started to go up my stomach with his hands and went under my crop top and on to my breasts,' she said.

'He cupped both my breasts.

'I was frozen. He was talking normally to people in the car.

'He moved his right hand down between my legs and started rubbing aggressively over my genitals.

'Very fast, very hard, I felt him breathing down my neck as he thought I was enjoying it.

'I remember elbowing him backwards. I remember him saying he had a boner.

'He was still rubbing and still had his left hand on my breast. His left hand was on my left breast the whole time.

Breaking down in tears in the witness stand, the complainant continued: 'I was a victim of domestic violence quite a few years ago.

'I froze so that it would be over quicker.'

When the Audi came to a halt outside the house, she fled from the vehicle in tears.

'I ran about 10 metres down the path, just crying.

'I told [three other girls], I said, "He's had his hands all over me, this is not supposed to be happening to me I'm getting married next year."'

She told the court that she felt 'disgusting' and went into the utility room of the house. She felt 'not okay, shocked, totally ashamed, horrible'.

She said fellow female work colleagues told her they would help her to report Smith because he had done that sort of thing before.

'All I could think about was my fianc sat at home and I had just had another man's hands all over me. I felt awful.'

She added she didn't think she could complain because Smith had told her earlier in the evening that 'he was the best orthopaedic surgeon in Yorkshire'.

'I was scared I would lose my job if I spoke up,' she said.

But the next day she did report the assault to her manager and later told police.

Physiotherapist Natalie Heginbotham was one of the five women in the rear seats and was sat directly beside Smith.

From the witness box she told the jury that Smith was 'working the room' at the party in Bertie's.

Miss Heginbotham said: 'He was chatting to a lot of us, going around saying inappropriate things to members of staff.

'I heard him say to another physiotherapist about the fact that she was married and she was in a similar position to him - in an unhappy marriage.'

Miss Heginbotham told the jury of four women and eight men that Smith had said to the other physio 'the things I would do to you,' which made her feel 'uncomfortable'.

Miss Heginbotham said: 'He asked me at one point whether I was going to kiss him, and I said "no".

'I told him he was being inappropriate and that he was coming across as if he was full of himself.'

After Bertie's another surgeon, Adeshina Fawole, who had not been drinking, drove seven of his work colleagues to an after party.

The complainant ended up on Smith's lap, and Miss Heginbotham told the court he commented 'with a young girl like you on my knee I am going to get a boner.'

She saw Smith rubbing the complainant's back, which another girl in the back seat told him was 'creepy'.

'He then turned to me and said again "Are you going to kiss me?" To which I said "No". He asked "Why not?"', she said.

She did not see Smith sexually assault the complainant by touching her breasts or rubbing her crotch but did see her jump out of the car when it stopped at the house party.

'She was visibly crying,' she told the court.

'I asked what happened and she said he had had his hand up her top and over her crotch area.'

Miss Heginbotham heard Smith remark, after hearing what he was accused of doing, 'I could lose my job over this.'

She said he later had a nurse on his knee at the house party.

Another physio Samuel Lockwood told the trial he had asked Smith how he was.

Mr Lockwood said: 'I recall [him] saying things were great, he had just had a girl on his lap in the car. He didn't show any remorse for it.'

A nurse at the party, Joanne Washington, told the jury Smith had told her, "I think you and me would have really good sex". I told him that was an inappropriate comment.'

A jury of eight men and four women found Smith guilty of two counts of sexual assault.

A paedophile who downloaded more than 14,000 images of kids being sexually abused was caught with a manual detailing how to rape children.

Roy Neilson collected a trove of images on his laptop showing children as young as two being subjected to horrendous abuse. The 66-year-old, from Wirral, later said he had downloaded the images out of interest but had later developed an obsession with child abuse.

Derek Jones, prosecuting, said police traced Neilsons IP address from a tip off about indecent images being downloaded to a computer. They later seized an HP laptop from his Moreton home and recovered 14,670 indecent images, including 1,296 which fell into the most serious Category A.

Liverpool Crown Court heard a number of the images showed children clearly in distress or pain. In addition, Neilson had also downloaded parts of a manual on how to rape children.

Mr Jones said: It seems he had visited a Japanese pornographic website for the guide and bookmarked the page so he could return to it. He said the document contained an image of a child being raped and provided instructions for potential sexual abusers.

Mr Jones said: It is quite a shocking document. Bernice Campbell, defending, said there was little apart from Neilsons guilty plea that could be used as mitigation in his case.

She said Neilson had downloaded the disgusting pictures first out of curiosity but had then become addicted to looking at photos of child sexual abuse and was shocked by the number of photos recovered by police. Referring to the paedophile manual, Ms Campbell said Neilson had looked at it out of interest as opposed to having an intention to commit physical abuse against a child.

Appealing to the judge not to send him to prison, Ms Campbell referred to a pre sentence report which said he could be rehabilitated. She also pointed to the fact that he had taken no steps to cover up his offending and said that if he were to go to prison he would likely be exposed to more serious offenders who could impede any progress addressing his behaviour

Judge Stuart Driver QC said the amount of images, the age of the children and the clear distress of many of the victims in the images meant only immediate custody was appropriate for Neilson. Referring to the paedophile manual, he said: The court see many cases of indecent images but that is an unusual and most unpleasant feature of this case."

Neilson, of Fairmead Road, Morton, was jailed for 12 months.
