A paedophile who plotted for a baby to be brought to his home so he could watch it being sexually abused was struck off the nursing register.

Thomas Harrison devised a sick plan with who he thought was the baby boy's dad in horrific online conversations.

The 31-year-old, from Mossley Hill, was completely unaware that he was actually chatting to an undercover police officer in a sting to catch him.

This week, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) revealed that they have removed Harrison, who worked as an adult nurse at Cornerstone Surgery in St Helens, from their nursing register.

Harrison's plot began on July 23 last year when he sent repeated messages to a fictitious profile created on the dating app Grindr.

Once the 31-year-old had struck up a conversation with his new contact, their messages moved onto Wickr, an encrypted messaging platform.

The undercover officer asked Harrison what he was interested in sexually, with Harrison responding "anything goes".

When the officer revealed he had a four month old son, Harrison was asked whether he would prefer sexual activity with the officer or the baby. He said "he would choose the baby".

The pair agreed to meet and the officer arrived at Harrison's home on the night of July 27 2020, where he told the officer to his face that he wanted to watch him abuse the child.

The officer's colleagues from Merseyside Police and the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit then arrived and arrested Harrison for facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.

In October last year at Liverpool Crown Court he was sentenced to two years in prison and put on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.

NMC documents, covering the hearing on September 17, stated: "The panel was provided with a certificate of conviction which confirmed that on 16 September 2020 at Crown Court in Liverpool Harrison was convicted of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.

"The panel also noted that Harrison had admitted the charge against him.

"The panel agreed that the nature of Harrison's conviction is very serious and involved a very vulnerable baby who was, in the past, placed at unwarranted risk of harm.

"It also breached fundamental tenets of the profession and brought the profession into disrepute.

"Harrison has been convicted of a serious sexual offence involving the attempted sexual abuse of a four month old baby.

It determined that a fully informed member of the public would be appalled by Harrison's conviction, and extremely concerned should a finding of no current impairment be made in light of his convictions."

Detective Constable Craig Doyle said: "Harrison has shown by his actions that he clearly poses a danger to children, and I am very pleased to say he is safely behind bars today.

"He will now spend time behind bars where he can no longer pose a risk, and I hope he uses that time to reflect on the seriousness of his offence and the impact it could have had on a victim, their family and the wider community."

Alongside being struck off the nursing register, the NMC also imposed an 18 month interim suspension order.

This means that Harrison's registration is suspended and they must not practise for the duration it is in place.

On making their decision to remove Harrison from the register, the NMC said: "The panel noted that the serious breach of the fundamental tenets of the profession evidenced by Harrison's actions is fundamentally incompatible with him remaining on the register.

"The panel agreed that the appropriate and proportionate sanction is that of a striking-off order.

"Having regard to the matters it identified, the panel has concluded that nothing short of this would be sufficient in this case."

A RAPIST was given a reduced sentence after "excruciating" delays in getting the case to court.

A judge said the offender "should have been charged probably two years earlier than you were."

And his victim told the court she considered dropping the case because it took almost three years to come to trial.

The sentence was also reduced because coronavirus restrictions in prisons are said to be making sentences tougher with reduced social interaction and the likelihood of spending 23 hours a day locked in a cell.

Dennis Adkin, 49, of Cuthbury Gardens, Wimborne, was convicted of raping a woman in her own home after a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

The court heard the offence was committed on November 13 2017 and reported on December 10.

Adkins was interviewed a day later but was not charged until January 2020.

Judge Robert Pawson said the delay affected both the victim and the rapist and said his sentence was reduced as a result.

He was jailed for three years and three months.

Judge Pawson suggested police and the Crown Prosecution Service review the way in which the case was handled.

And he added: "It is just dreadful. The victim had periods of wanting to drop the case because of the delay."

He described the delays as "excruciating" and added: "There is no proper explanation as to why that delay took place."

Jurors were told Adkin attacked his victim in her own home and she has since felt the need to move house.

In a victim impact statement the woman said: "The whole court process has made my anxiety levels go through the roof. It has affected my life massively.

"I felt very crushed. This is something that will stay with me for a very long time. I still wait up at night fighting and shouting in my sleep. I am constantly scared and feel vulnerable all the time."

Adkin was also handed a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim indefinitely. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

A lecturer has been jailed after threatening not to submit a students coursework unless he sent him a naked photo.

Lewis Bryan, 29, also sent a series of indecent Snapchat messages to two former students.

He was this week sentenced to 27 months in prison at Dundee Sheriff Court and was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.

Bryan was found guilty after a trial in February of two charges of coercing the men to look at sexual images and one charge of attempted extortion between January 2017 and March 2018.

As he was led away to the cells, he said: I didnt do it.

The court heard Bryan tried to blackmail one of the men by saying he wouldnt send coursework to the SQA unless he sent him indecent material.

He committed the offences while he taught the men then teenage school pupils at Dundee and Angus Colleges Arbroath campus.

The court heard one of the men felt traumatised.

Jurors were also shown a screenshot selfie of Bryan with the caption send nudes (obviously) which one of the victims said Bryan sent to him while he was teaching.

One of the victims said previously that Bryan, of Arbroath, sent lewd images with a partner, using emojis to cover his genitals.

The ex-pupil revealed he was able to identify Bryan in some photos by tattoos on his body from TV series Twin Peaks and video game BioShock that he had shown students in class.

Bryan, who was working as a chef before being jailed, returned to the dock for sentencing.

Paul Parker-Smith, defending, said Bryan continued to deny his guilt.

Sheriff Carmichael said: These charges are so serious that theres no option but to impose a custodial sentence.

Dundee and Angus College said after Bryans conviction that he had left in 2018 and declined to comment further.

The convicted child sex offender and former football coach Barry Bennell has been jailed for an additional four years as he was sentenced over sexual abuse for a fifth time, reports Daniel Taylor. Bennell was already serving a 31-year prison sentence relating to his time as a coach and talent spotter for Crewe Alexandra and, previously, Manchester City. Who is Bennell? Bennell, also known as Richard Jones, coached numerous teams in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire and had almost a quarter of a century working in football, including seven-year associations with Manchester City and Crewe. In 2017 he was branded sheer evil and the devil incarnate after being sentenced to 30 years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court for subjecting junior players to hundreds of sexual offences. Why was he back in court? Bennell, 66, had pleaded guilty to three counts of buggery and six counts of indecent assault at an earlier hearing. The offences happened between 1979 and 1988 when the victims were aged between 11 and 14. On Thursday he appeared via videolink from HMP Littlehey in Cambridgeshire, where he is serving his life sentence. Judge Patrick Thompson said the sentence would be served consecutively to his current prison term, meaning a total sentence of 34 years in custody, with an additional two years on licence. Judge Thompson told Bennell: You were a parents worst nightmare. What else do I need to know? A police document shows that detectives investigating the Bennell case privately suspected Crewe officials must have known about the crimes that led to him being branded in court as a child abuser on an industrial scale. As Bennell faces up to the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison, The Athletic can reveal that the police spotlight was also on Crewe over suspicions that people at the club knew Bennell was a potential danger to young boys. What is Crewes response? Crewe were contacted by The Athletic on Tuesday but have declined to comment. Crewe have always denied any knowledge of his crimes but police correspondence makes it clear for the first time that at least one senior member of the serious-crime unit investigating Bennell found it difficult to believe a club of that size knew nothing about it.

The abuse has left the girl suffering with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

A paedophile manipulated and threatened a young girl who he was subjecting to sex acts. Scott Banks abused the child over a prolonged period before claiming that he loved her.

Swansea Crown Court heard the offending has had a significant impact on the child, leaving her suffering with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and leading her to struggle at school as well as to self-harm.

Helen Randall, prosecuting, said that after meeting the child, Banks acquired her mobile phone number and began communicating with her. He then started asking the girl - who he knew was under 16 - for sex, requests the youngster "did not think she could say no to" as she did not want to make him angry.

The barrister said the sex acts went on for a prolonged period and when, on occasions, the girl would refuse to do what the defendant wanted he would threaten to smash her possessions and tell people what was going on. The prosecutor said the girl would later describe how she was felt "disgusted" at what Banks was doing.

In a statement which was read to the court by the prosecutor, the girl said the offending had left her suffering with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She said her experiences at the hands of Banks had changed her as a person, had impacted her education, and caused her to self-harm.

Scott Banks, aged 25, of Southville Road, Sandfields, Port Talbot, had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child when he appeared in the dock for sentencing. He has two previous convictions for four offences including criminal damage and assaults by beating.

Nicola Powell, for Banks, said it was clear from reports into the defendant that he was "immature" and that there were "concerns about his cognitive abilities". She told the court it was perhaps a sign of his "immaturity" that he had said he was in love with the girl. The barrister said the defendant had witnessed domestic violence as a child, experiences which had had a "marked effect" on him.

Judge Geraint Walters told Banks he appeared to be a "somewhat manipulative, maybe domineering" individual who effectively threatened the girl "if she did not yield to your demands". With a 20 per cent discount for his guilty pleas Banks was sentenced to four years in prison. He will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. The defendant will be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life, and was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to control his access to girls.

As a victim of a sexual offence, Banks' victim has life-long legal anonymity.

A woman who screamed 'I'm not a beast' as she was convicted of sexually abusing two children attacked a custody officer moments after she was jailed.

Samantha Smith, 31, from Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, repeatedly preyed on a boy aged five and a three-year-old girl.

She was jailed for three years for the sickening campaign of abuse which lasted until the boy was eight and the girl five.

But she lashed out at a custody officer and kicked her in the stomach before being restrained in the cells at Hamilton Sheriff Court last year.

She has now re-appeared at the same court and admitted the assault in November.

Smith, whose earliest release date is May 2021, was handed a five month sentence to run alongside her current jail term by Sheriff Douglas Brown.

Depute fiscal Morag McLintock said: "The accused was not happy at being found guilty by the jury and caused problems in the court resulting in her being removed.

"She told the custody officer to go and f**k herself and kicked her on the stomach resulting in her falling to the ground and requiring others to assist.

"Thankfully the officer did not suffer any injuries after the accused's actions towards her."

Jim O'Dowd, defending, said: "She apologises for her behaviour and clearly it was out-of-order and she accepts that."

Sheriff Brown said: "I will impose five months imprisonment reduced from six."

Smith had denied abusing the youngsters, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between November 2009 and June 2014 at a house in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire.

Smith claimed to be 'elated' to be in court to clear her name at her original trial.

She told jurors: "The first I heard about this was when the police came to the house.

"I'm horrified to be accused of these things.

"I'm actually elated at the thought of being in court to clear my name over this."

She was forced to flee her home in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, after 40 people turned up outside to protest against her.

As Smith was led away to begin her jail sentence, she yelled "paedos should be hung not put in jail, I'm not a paedophile" before turning to relatives of the victims and shouting "what goes around comes around".

She was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

A 20-year-old man has been jailed after threatening to expose two teenage girls if they didn't have sex with him.

Nathan Jones was sentenced to three years and 11 months at Nottingham Crown Court for seven counts of sexual offences with two victims under the age of 16.

He has been given a sexual harm prevention order and has been placed on the sex offences register indefinitely.

Jones, of Farm Croft Road in Mansfield Woodhouse, pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The charges relate to a number of incidents between January and August in 2018 where he intentionally touched and engaged in sexual activity with the two teenage girls.

Jones threatened that if the victims spoke out he would post photos online humiliating them, Nottinghamshire Police said.

He was blocked on social media by the victims and they contacted Childline, who passed on the details to the police.

Detective Constable Helen Sanders of Nottinghamshire Police said: "Jones was very controlling of both victims.

They found themselves in a position they couldn't get out of it because if they refused, Jones threatened to expose their secrets and photos to the community.

Due to Jones persistence and increase in control they finally reached out for help and Id like to praise them for doing so and for supporting this investigation throughout.

Their actions have helped to put the offender behind bars where he is unable to cause harm to anyone else. I hope that their bravery inspires other victims of violence and sexual abuse to come forward.

A man who burnt a womans ankle with heated hair straighteners and forced her to stand naked in front of her bedroom window for half an hour 'like a Blair Witch' before he raped her has been jailed for 13 years.

At Gloucester crown court yesterday (Oct 1), Jordan Bibby, 22, of Penda Close, Sedbury, nr Chepstow, was unanimously found guilty by a jury of eight men and four women of raping the woman at her home on February 11th 2018.

Judge Ian Lawrie QC told Bibby: You controlled your victim through fear. The rape has had a significant impact on her life, the effects of which will be long-lasting. She has been left with emotional scars which the passage of time will not diminish."

Prosecutor Charles Thomas told the court the woman, who was 20 at the time, was driving home when she saw Bibby, whom she knew, standing on a roundabout in Chepstow just before 2am.

"She stopped to speak to him," said Mr Thomas. "He demanded that he take her to Newport. She refused and said she would take him back to Sedbury.

The woman stopped a short distance from Bibbys home address and indicated to him to get out. It was at this point that he became aggressive towards her and ordered her to continue driving to her home.

During a heated argument he deliberately broke the indicator stick on her steering wheel.

When they arrived at her address he pushed her against a wall, after which she fell down to the ground, and he snatched her car keys from her. He drove off in her car before but returned a few minutes later.

The victim said that when they got back Bibby grabbed me by my hair and dragged me to my flat, on the top floor of the building.

He was ever so angry about something, he started whacking me. I was hysterical and I kept begging him to stop.

The court was told that Bibby began punching the womans waist and the lower part of her body and he used her hairbrush as a weapon. He repeatedly struck her on her hand.

"He then got hold of my heated hair straighteners and clamped them around my ankle," she said.

It immediately burnt my skin and when I screamed he tightened his grip. I begged him to stop.

He then made be stand naked in front of my bedroom window for a long time. It made me feel vulnerable.

He then ordered me to stand in the corner. If I went to move hed threaten me.

I pleaded with him to let me go to the toilet. He wouldnt. But after what seemed a long time he did eventually let me go.

When I came back into the bedroom, he told me to get into the bed and massage his private parts. Again I said no.

I told him in no uncertain terms no and it was at this point he tried to rape me. It only lasted 20 seconds before he gave up as he was unable to sustain an erection.

When I woke up the next morning he was still in my flat and acted as if nothing had happened.

The jury was told that the next day the woman contacted the police in Chepstow to report the incident but was told that she would need to report it to Gloucestershire Police. She initially declined to go to Gloucester, but changed her mind three months later.

The prosecutor explained to the court that even though there was a three month delay in the woman reporting to the police that she had been raped, she had spoken to trusted work colleagues and told them that she had been raped a few days after the incident and told them that it 'was her worst birthday ever.'

Lloyd Jenkins, defending, told the jury: Yes he was aggressive and he absconded with her car - and he admits to pulling the womans hair and marching her into her flat and assaulting her.

However he doesnt accept that he forced her to stand naked in front of the window like a Blair Witch, nor did he rape her.

He said there was no sex, therefore there was no rape. In effect it is a binary decision. The woman says it was 20 seconds. He said it never happened.

Did he rape the woman 31 months ago? When you factor everything into your deliberations the observations submitted on behalf of Bibby but if there is an element of doubt and where there is doubt you must give the benefit to the defendant. I invite you to find him not guilty.

While waiting for the trial to be held, the court was told that Bibby had to deal with the effects of his mothers suicide and the death of a 17-year-old nephew in a car accident.

Judge Lawrie turned to Bibby and said: Rape is one of the most serious offences. I have listened to the short but compelling evidence from the victim.

You adopted an abusive approach towards this woman. You exploited her inexperience of life especially in the lead up to the rape itself.
You were controlling and took advantage of her generosity of her spirit.

You contested the case and I see little remorse for your actions. You effectively conducted this trial through gritted teeth.

You used the womans hair straighteners to burn the skin of her ankle. You controlled her through fear. You forced her to stand naked in the window, making her feel very vulnerable.

Ive read the victims revised statement which in summary she states the rape has had a significant impact on her life, the effects of which will be long-lasting. You will have left emotional scars on her for the rest of her life which the passage of time will not diminish.

I suggest you read it and reflect on it while you serve the next 13 years in prison.

The judge ordered that Bibby should sign the sex offenders register for life and be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order not to contact his victim. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of 170.

"**Detective Superintendent Steve Bean of Gloucestershire Police said after the case Id like to pay tribute to the victim in this case.

She has shown immense personal strength and resilience and I hope that she now finds some level of closure after suffering such traumatic events.

We absolutely recognise the impact of domestic abuse and sexual offending and work very closely with our partners in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to ensure that everything is done to prosecute such cases and achieve justice for the victims.

A former music teacher has been jailed for attempting to groom undercover police posing online as girls under 16.

Christopher Perry, 30, sent explicit messages to decoy accounts from two separate forces over weeks last year.

Perry admitted two counts of attempting to incite a child to sexual activity and two of attempted sexual communication with a child.

Perry, of Lancaster Drive, Paignton, was jailed for two years and eight months at Exeter Crown Court.

Perry was caught after sending explicit messages to fake accounts of girls aged 11 and 12 from the North West Regional Crime Unit and West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit, the court heard.

Sex offenders register

He was arrested at Gatwick Airport as he headed for a summer camp in Philadelphia in June 2019, after police became concerned at his potential contact with children.

Judge Peter Johnson also put Perry on the sex offenders register for life and made him subject of a indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, allowing police to monitor his online activity.

He said: "It is clear you were doing it for your own sexual gratification, which you described in graphic detail.

"It is quite clear the harm you intended to cause. The problem with online or remote abuse is that there is a risk of being oblivious or uncaring about the psychological effect.

"It is impossible to pick up visual cues and there is a risk of causing incalculable harm through the inappropriate early sexualisation of children."

A Suffolk hotel manager who molested a schoolgirl has been jailed for nine months.

Adam Ali, former manager of the White Horse Hotel in Leiston, took the teenager to his room at the premises and sat on the bed and removed his shoes, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He invited her to do the same and then put his leg over her while they were on the bed so he was three-quarters over her body, said Nicola May, prosecuting.

He told the 14-year-old: Dont worry, Im not going to kiss you, but she had panicked and didnt know what to do, said Miss May.

She thought if she shouted, she would make the situation worse, she said.

The court heard that, prior to that incident, Ali had kissed the girl on her neck, hugged her, massaged her shoulders and told her she was good-looking.

Miss May said Ali had received a caution in 2013 for indecently assaulting a 17-year old girl.

Ali, 36, of Parnell Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to five offences of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl in 2019.

In addition to being jailed, Ali was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Sentencing him, Judge Rupert Overbury accused him of molesting the victim of the offences after grooming her.

He said Ali had been put on notice that this sort of behaviour towards girls wasnt acceptable when he was given an earlier caution for indecent assaulting another teenager.

He said Ali had been testing the waters to see how far he could go when he sat on the bed in his room at the White Horse, removed his shoes and invited the girl to do the same.

Joanne Eley, for Ali, said her client had lost his job at the hotel as a result of the publicity the court proceedings had received.

She described Ali as a hard-working family man who had worked in the catering and hospitality industry for many years.

He had been the proprietor and licence holder of the White Horse and had invested 14,000 in stock and equipment.

He was no longer the licence holder and the new landlord didnt feel it appropriate to employ him because of adverse comments left on the hotels Facebook following publicity about the case.

Miss Eley said that friends of Ali and his family had also distanced themselves because of the court proceedings.

A woman who sent naked pictures of a child to a man she met online after he promised her a job has been jailed for more than three years.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how Claire Kelly, 36, of Yew Drive, Brandon, was taken to hospital on August 21, 2019, following a suicide attempt.

She then disclosed to paramedics how she had sent indecent pictures of a child to a man she met via the internet.

Jamie Sawyer, prosecuting, said Kelly’s mobile phone was seized and conversations were discovered between her and a man known as ‘Craig Mwah’ via the Kik messenger application.

Kelly also communicated with another man called ‘Harry’, who she believed to be the son of ‘Craig’.

Police found that ten indecent images were sent and that Kelly also took three category B images, and 13 graded as category C, the court heard.

There was also evidence of discussions around involving a child in a sexual act, the court heard.

Kelly previously pleaded guilty before magistrates to distributing indecent photographs of a child, arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, and taking indecent photographs of a child.

The court heard that ‘Craig’ promised Kelly a £35,000-a-year job with his firm as a personal assistant.

It was when Kelly challenged ‘Craig’ about the job that he and ‘Harry’ ceased contact.

It had not been possible for police to trace either ‘Craig Mwah’ or ‘Harry’, the court heard.

Joanne Eley, defending, said Kelly, who had no previous convictions, was “financially destitute” and in a “huge amount of debt”.

She said: “She feels huge remorse for what she did. Her remorse in this case is entirely genuine.”

Miss Eley added that Kelly had been in a “downward spiral” since 2013 and had suffered mental health difficulties with depression following the break-up of her marriage.

“She is a lady who was clearly struggling in the lead-up to these offences,” she said.

On Wednesday, Judge Emma Peters sentenced Kelly to a total of three years and two months in prison.

Kelly was also made to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which was also indefinite.

Tall of Aspen Close, Hedge End appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday.

He was charged with attempting to cause or incite a female child under 13-years-old to engage in sexual activity and with possessing indecent images of a child. He previously pleaded guilty.

Prosecution barrister, Nick Hall told how Tall was caught with 17 category A images, 14, category B images and 2,880 category C images.

Defence barrister, Berenice Mulvanny argued that Tall was of good character with a previous conviction for an unrelated matter from 2011, adding he had committed no further offences since he was arrested.

Tall claims to live every day regretting what he did and has "lost his daughter" due to his actions.

Judge Gary Burrell QC slammed his collection of images as repulsive and justifying imprisonment.

However, citing the prospect of rehabilitation he said there was a good chance of him leading a good life.

Tall was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years. He must complete a 60-day sexual offenders programme. He is subject to a two-year sexual harm prevention order and a four-month curfew from 7pm to 7am.

A CONVICTED sex offender previously jailed for offering a vulnerable 15-year-old cash to have sex with him on Facebook has been sent back to prison.

Four years ago, Aaron Whitman was given a 16-month jail term after propositioning the girl online.

He found out details of her social care records via his then role at Essex County Council.

As well as his prison sentence, for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and misconduct in a public office, Whitman, now 31, was made subject to certain notification requirements and a ten-year sexual harm prevention order limiting the contact he could have with youngsters.

However, last year he had unsupervised contact with a girl on numerous occasions whose mother did not initially know about his conviction, Chelmsford Crown Court was told.

Whitman’s behaviour was not inappropriate towards her but he was still banned from being with her.

He also opened a new bank account and spent approximately 30 nights away from his home address in Pirie Road, West Bergholt, without telling officers.

He admitted breach of sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with notification requirements.

Judge Timothy Walker jailed him for a year at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.

“You would have been told any breach of this order would likely result in your return to custody,” he said.

Barry Gilbert, mitigating, had called for leniency saying no child at come to harm on this occasion.

He said: “However unpleasant this all is, in four years there has been one breach.

“There has never been any danger for a child which is what these orders are put in place for.”

Whitman’s sexual harm prevention order will now run for another ten years.

A rapist who tried to blame an imaginary identical twin for the attack has been jailed for 22 years.

Khaled Argoub, 21, followed a woman off a tube and dragged her into a dark park where he choked her until she blacked out and sexually assaulted her.

He was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on 17 September after being found guilty of two counts of attempted rape.

He was also found guilty of attempting to choke with intent, assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault.

Argoub was given an extended sentence of 22 years for attempted rape, with the other sentences of nine and ten years to run concurrently.

Fourteen of those he will spend in custody. He will be considered for parole after serving two thirds of the 14 years.

The victim, who is in her 20s and cannot be named for legal reasons, was walking home from a night out with friends through Colliers Wood, south-west London.

CCTV footage shown at trial showed how Argoub followed her from the night tube, down Colliers Wood High Street before entering a residential road at around 3am.

When the victim was most of the way down the street, she noticed Argoub standing in the middle of the road 'smirking' at her, she later described.

The rapist then ran towards the victim, grabbed hold of her, and dragged her into Wandle Park.

He grabbed her from behind with his arm around her neck, chocking her before attempting to rape her. He also sexually assaulted her.

Biting his hand, which was covering her mouth, the victim was able to escape and ran to a nearby block of flats until officers arrived a short time after.

The victim was taken to hospital where she had significant cuts and scratches to her body and reddening to her neck.

Her voice was hoarse from the strangulation and she struggled to speak.

A search was conducted for the suspect, with helicopter and dog support but there was no trace of the defendant.

Officers found a baseball cap with a 'B' logo on the front at the scene.

Officers discovered a man fitting Argoub wearing a baseball cap on CCTV, which was found at the scene of the crime.

Twelve minutes later after the attack, he is seen re-entering the station heading towards Tooting Broadway and is no longer wearing the baseball cap.

A nail clipping was taken from the victim at hospital, which contained a partial DNA profile for Argoub.

He was arrested at 0.45am on 24 August and charged later that day.

Kingston Crown Court heard how during a police interview on 26 August, he had attempted to blame the attack on his imaginary twin brother.

Prosecutor Charlotte Newell said: 'He claimed to have a twin but did not know when he had last seen him or contacted him.

'This is of course in contradiction to him telling his housemate that he had no family in the UK.

'He said he got around London by following people because he is an animal and that he didn't know Colliers Wood area but his brother might.

'He said that he could not remember where he was on evening on 10 August but probably in bed sleeping.

'He was shown CCTV stills of the male at South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood but denied it was him and maintained that it could be his twin brother.'

Detective Constable Faye Castleman, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: 'On behalf of the victim and her family, I am pleased that justice has been served and I hope that this sentence can bring some closure for them.

'The victim was immensely brave throughout the investigation and I highly commend her courage.

'This case also recognises the importance of forensics in helping to identify offenders.

'We take these cases very seriously and I would encourage anyone who has been through a similar experience to come forward and report it to us in confidence.'

A paedophile from Rushden has been sentenced to prison at Northampton Crown Court today (Wednesday, September 16).

Philip Jackson, 32, formerly of Rushden, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl in April 2019.

He showed no remorse and forced the case to go to trial, making the child take the stand and give evidence.

Jackson was unanimously found guilty at Northampton Crown Court in August.

Lead Investigator, Detective Constable Paul Lilley, from Northamptonshire Polices Child Protection Team, said: I hope Jacksons punishment brings some closure for this young girl and her family and I am pleased this individual will now serve time behind bars for his actions.

Northamptonshire Police takes reports of sexual assault very seriously and will always treat reports of this nature with the confidentiality and sensitivity they deserve.

At the time of the guilty verdict, DC Lilley described Jackson as a remorseless liar who had repeatedly tried to discredit the account of the young girl.

DC Lilley said: Im very pleased that the jury saw through his lies and as a result, a dangerous paedophile who no doubt poses a risk to children going forward, has been convicted.

What is most incredible about this case is the bravery of the young girl who stood up in court and gave evidence.

I hope Jacksons conviction brings some closure to this young girl and her family who throughout the investigation and trial have shown great courage and dignity.

Jackson was also handed a 10-month Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
