A “dangerous” sex offender has been sentenced to a total of 14 years after arranging a meeting in Bedford so he could sexually abuse a child.

Alec Parkin, 49, a registered sex offender from Nottinghamshire, bragged he had been convicted of previous child sex offences and was being monitored by police – but that he was able to communicate via another device so he could cover his tracks.

Parkin arranged the meeting and was arrested by Bedfordshire Police officers in Bedford.

Devices were seized from his home address and the conversations he had participated in were uncovered.

Parkin, of Baptist Lane, Collingham, Newark, pleaded guilty to arranging and facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and yesterday (Tuesday) was handed a nine-year custodial sentence at Luton Crown Court, with a five-year extended licence, due to his dangerousness and the significant risk of harm he poses.

Emma Shipton, an investigation officer within Bedfordshire Police’s Internet Child Abuse Investigation team, said: “As the judge rightly said at sentencing, Parkin is a dangerous sex offender who would have carried out these heinous acts on an innocent child had he got the chance to.

“He was caught red-handed in the process of arranging a meeting and is now going to be spending a good chunk of time in prison.

“People such as Parkin should know that they will not get away with carrying out such an atrocious crime – we will find you and we will do all we can to lock you up and keep our communities safe from sex offenders.”

When police confronted Adam Johnson in June last year, he told them: “I think I may have done something. There are indecent images. I downloaded them during lockdown. I was bored.”

Analysis of his laptop and phone revealed Johnson, them aged 18, downloaded a “paedophiles’ manual” which contained advice like “don’t be afraid to rape” and claimed “each child molester has an average of 35 victims and loves to hear their victims scream”.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he had 540 indecent images of children, including 65 movies, 101 of which were category A – the most serious category – as well nine prohibited images.

The images featured “extremely graphic images involving the torture and abuse of very young children in clear distress”, including babies being raped when they were tied up, blindfolded and screaming.

Johnson engaged in 20 different chats with other perverts in which he said: “I would like to f*** babies in front of people. I have no limits. I am into babies.”

Johnson, of Valley Road, Bilsthorpe, admitted three counts of distributing, and five counts of possessing indecent and prohibited images.

Stefan Fox, mitigating, said: “Without taking away from the absolutely abhorrent nature of these offences the court will have experiences of cases where thousands of images are involved.”

He said Johnson had “no intent to commit that sort of offence but to talk with others”.

Mr Fox said: “He accepts he is looking down the barrel end of a prison sentence. It would be the first time he has been away from his family.

“He was forced to leave the family home. His family had to rent him a flat to comply with his bail conditions. Experts say he might have an undiagnosed learning difficulty. He deserves credit for his guilty plea.”

Sentencing, Judge William Harbage KC told him: “These are sickening, disgustng and perverted offences. It’s bad enough to possess that sort of material for your own sexual gratification, but you have distributed 90 images and videos.”

Johnson was sentenced to 32 months in a young offender institution and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

An elderly man has been jailed after he repeatedly abused a young girl. Paul Lee, now aged 80, targeted the girl on multiple occasions around a decade ago, when he made her pose for photographs and forced her to engage in sexual activity.

His crimes where exposed years later after the girl revealed what happened to a member of staff at her school. Lee was arrested two days later, and Nottinghamshire Police carried out a search of his home near Newark.

Officers found explicit paintings depicting abuse of the girl in an outbuilding, as well as an arrangement of adult and child-sized shop mannequins dressed in sexualised underwear. Extreme pornographic material was also recovered from electronic devices seized at the scene

Lee, formerly of Moor Lane, South Clifton, declined to comment in three separate police interviews but he later pleaded guilty to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent photographs of a child, and possessing a prohibited image of a child. The 80 year old also admitted to possessing extreme pornography and to possessing a shotgun without a certificate after the weapon was found during the police search.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, July 3, he was jailed for seven years and 10 months. He will also serve an extended license period of four years upon his release.

Detective Constable Laura Manley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Lee is a predatory sex offender who committed some truly appalling offences against a primary school age child. As she grew older, the victim in this case realised what had happened to her was wrong and eventually found the strength to tell others.

“I know this been a very difficult and upsetting process for her and her family, so I really am full of admiration for the determination and dignity she has shown throughout the legal process. But for her bravery in coming forward, this man would have remained at-large and other children could have been put at risk as a result."

She continued: "The evidence she gave was extremely detailed and utterly damming for Lee, who really had no choice but to admit to what he had done. I am pleased he has now been handed a very significant prison sentence and hope this case serves as a warning to others about the consequences of abusing children in this way.

“We will find out; we will arrest you and we will do whatever we can to bring you to justice.”

A sex offender phoned the police to confess to years of abuse against two young girls – minutes after denying the offences in a formal interview.

John Morrell, aged 73, was arrested by Nottinghamshire Police after one of his victims told a school friend about his offending.

Police were informed by a teacher and a criminal investigation was started by specialist child abuse detectives.

Morrell repeatedly abused the girls over several years and was finally arrested in March 2021.

At his initial police interview at Mansfield Police Station he denied all the allegations against him and suggested they were being made up.

Shortly after the interview had finished he left a message with detectives asking them to call him back.

He then told them that the allegations were true and later admitted to multiple offences in a second interview.

A forensic examination of his personal computer also uncovered hundreds of child sexual abuse images – some of them depicting the most serious acts of abuse.

Further examination of his internet browsing history confirmed that he had a clear sexual interest in children.

Morrell later pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and three counts of making an indecent image of a child. The indecent image offences relate to the storage of images on his computer.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (6 June), Morrell, of Milner Street, Newark, was jailed for eight years and added to the sex offenders’ register for life.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order that will closely restrict his future behaviour and access to children once he is released from prison.

Detective Constable Alan Braisby, of Nottinghamshire Police’s child abuse investigation unit, said: “Morrell was responsible for an appalling catalogue of abuse over a sustained period of time.

“When this abuse started his victims were simply too young to understand what was happening to them. As they got older they realised that what had happened was wrong and the truth was revealed.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of children, so when cases like are reported to us we will take them seriously, we will follow the evidence and we will do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice.”

A Nottinghamshire teacher who shared sick child porn with other paedophiles and pretended to be a 13-year-old while chatting with them on social media has been locked up.

When police seized Stuart Street's iphone on October 12, 2021, 'he suggested, rather weakly, that it might have been hacked,' said Mark Achurch, prosecuting.

Analysis revealed images and videos of girls, aged between eight and 12, along with prohibited drawings of girls engaged in sexual activity.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he took on the persona of a 13-year-old child in online chats and 'expressed the view - whether in character or not - that he would like to have sex with a child'.

On June 19 he sent category A movies and category C images to one user, and between March and October, 2021, he shared 14 items with seven different correspondents.

Matthew Smith, mitigating, said Street, of previous good character, initially denied the charges but changed his pleas in October last year and there was no need for a trial.

"Not only has he lost his good character he has lost his career," he said. "He has had to start again. To his credit he has got a job in the engineering field."

Mr Smith said Street has begun rehabilitation courses with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.

"He recognises, albeit at a late stage, the trauma caused by these images," he said. "He has described it as a huge mistake."

Street, aged 26, of Mansfield Road, Edingley, near Southwell, admitted possessing and distributing category A and C images, and possessing prohibited and extreme pornography.

Recorder Stuart Sprawson told him: You engaged with others who had a mutual and similar interest in indecent images.

"You encouraged them to spread them among the community that engages in this type of criminal activity.

But for your arrest your offending may well have continued. Your career as a teacher should have brought into focus the seriousness of you offending.

The judge said that in a pre-sentence report Street denied deriving sexual gratification from the images, but he asked others for their experience and knowledge.

On Thursday, Street received a 17-month prison sentence. He was also made the subject of a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.

A business owner found guilty of two charges of sexual assault is on the sex offender register for five years after his sentencing today.

Keith Warren, 54, owner of Newark Cue Club, was sentenced by Judge Mr Recorder Simon King, at Nottingham Crown Court this morning.

Judge King said: "I think it is a tremendous shame that Mr Warren finds himself in this situation, but it is of his own doing."

The court was told Warren had an 'unblemished' life prior to the offences.

Warren was sentenced for two counts of sexual assault against a woman, who was said to have been 'greatly distressed' by Warren's actions.

He was found guilty of two of three charges of sexual assault brought against him at a retrial on January 16, with a not guilty verdict for one charge.

Warren had previously appeared before the court in early April 2022 for the same charges, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict, leading to the retrial this year.

Judge King sentenced Warren to a two-year community order and up to 45 rehabilitation activity requirement days for each of the two offences, to be served concurrently.

He will also be on the sex offender register for five years, and a restraining order in place for the same length of time, barring him from contacting the victim.

Warren was warned that any breach of the restraining order could result in a prison sentence.

"Any offence of sexual assault is considered as serious by the court," Judge King added.

"This is not to say it can be overlooked or minimised, but it falls to the lower end of the spectrum."

It was said that Warren was 'not a predator who might present serious risk'.

Nathan Wing, aged 28, met the girl on-line using a false name and later initiated thousands of sexualised social media conversations.

Aware that his victim was only 12-years-old at the time, Wing enticed her to send him a series of sexually explicit images. He also arranged to meet her in person on multiple occasions.

Police traced the phone used by Wing and arrested him in January last year.

A forensic examination of the device uncovered a series of similar exchanges with two other teenage girls.

Officers also uncovered evidence of numerous sexually explicit internet searches relating to young girls.

Wing, formerly of Newark, refused to answer any questions posed to him by officers but later admitted to a total of 11 sexual offences, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday 11 November, Wing was jailed for eight years and ordered to spend another four on licence because he is classed as a dangerous offender.

When he is eventually released Wing will be the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will place significant restrictions on his life.

Detective Constable Stacey Hardstaff, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Wing is a manipulative sex offender who poses a significant danger to young girls. He knew exactly what he was doing and had absolutely no care for the very significant harm he was causing.

“His depravity has had a profound impact on his victims and their families and I am pleased he has now been held accountable by the courts.

“This is a very significant jail sentence that should serve as a warning to anyone else thinking of behaving in a similar way.”

A man has been jailed after sexually assaulting three women at a party at his family home.

Matthew Cope, of Rutland Avenue, Newark, Nottinghamshire, admitted three counts of sexual assault.

Nottinghamshire Police said the 40-year-old drunkenly groped three women during the birthday celebrations.

Cope was given an 18-month prison sentence at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday and made subject to a four-year restraining order.

Nottinghamshire Police said Cope was already drunk when he joined his partner at a birthday gathering at a pub in Newark.

After inviting everyone back to his house afterwards, he carried on drinking heavily and started making sexual advances on a number of women in the presence of his partner and other family members, officers added.

The force said Cope failed to stop even when others intervened and also put one of his victims in a headlock when she tried to fight him off.

Police were called to the house in Rutland Avenue, Newark, and arrested Cope after finding him drunkenly slumped over in his kitchen in the early hours of 13 October 2019.

Ahead of sentencing, a victim impact statement was read out from one of the women, who said that the experience had made her "feel physically sick".

PC Vicky Buttery, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Cope's actions that night were completely unacceptable and have quite rightly landed him with a prison sentence.

"While he may have been extremely drunk when he carried out these lewd acts, this should not be used as an excuse on his behalf, as his actions were inexcusable."

A man caught with sexually-explicit images of children after police were tipped off by a paedophile hunter will serve an extra two weeks in jail for wasting court time.

David John Clarkson, of Yorke Drive, Newark, chatted with teenage girls online and persuaded one of them to meet him before taking indecent photographs of her wearing lingerie.

The 49-year-old also swapped explicit images with another girl and shared pictures with a woman he met on a swingers website.

Clarkson was jailed for 4 years at Nottingham Crown Court in October last year, after admitting a string of offences.

Clarkson tried to have his sentence cut at the Court of Appeal, in London, arguing it was too tough.

But he instead found himself with an extra two weeks jail time, after top judges ruled against him.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said remarks made to a probation officer showed he continues to have little insight into the pernicious nature of his activity and he continues to blame others.

Dismissing his appeal, the judge said: It cannot be arguable that the sentence was manifestly excessive.

Sitting with Lady Justice Sharp and Mr Justice Warby, she ordered Clarkson to serve an extra two weeks behind bars as punishment for wasting judicial time.

She said: The court has but one means of discouraging unmeritorious applications, which waste precious time and resources, and that is by using the powers to make a loss of time order.

We make a loss of time order in this case of 14 days.

At his sentencing hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, the prosecutor, Mr Kevin Jones, said Clarkson told police he blamed his actions on the girls parents for not properly monitoring their internet usage.

Clarkson met his victims on Facebook or on an adult introduction website. He encouraged them to move on to a messenger service that was unregulated.

'She found him creepy and weird'

Mr Jones said police tracked his first victim, a 15-year-old girl, to Derby.

She used Facebook and said random people would add themselves to her account, he said.

One such person was David Clarkson.

He collected her in Derby. When she met him, he wasnt what she expected.

The photo was noticeably different to the reality.

She found him creepy and weird and said it didnt feel right, but she travelled back with him (to Newark) in his car.

He produced clothing in packages, which he said was in her size. It was a baby-doll outfit.

She got fully undressed and put on the outfit.

He produced a camera from nowhere and commenced taking pictures.

Mr Jones said in an online chat Clarkson called a second under-age girl a hot little number.

He said Clarkson was aware of the girls ages.

He exchanged sexually-explicit messages and pictures with a second underage victim.

Mr Jones said Clarkson told a third girl, who sent him sexually-explicit photographs and one of her performing a sex act on herself, he was going to jail because she was 14.

He said maybe he should get a ferry to France a reference to a high-profile case in which a school teacher absconded abroad with an under-age girl.

Clarkson sent the third girl a sexually-explicit picture of the first victim.

Paedophile hunter

He contacted someone he believed to have been a 13-year-old called Jodie and sent a near-naked picture of the third victim.

Jodie, however, was the male paedophile hunter, who reported Clarkson to the police, said Mr Jones.

Clarkson pleaded guilty to 15 charges relating to the possession and distribution of indecent images, inciting sexual activity and the sexual exploitation of minors, as well as inciting sexual activity over a webcam.

A female co-accused, who Clarkson met on a swingers website and went on to have a relationship with, admitted possession of five indecent images of under-age girls.

Clarkson told her to destroy computer equipment following his arrest.

Clarkson must sign on the sex offenders register for life. His co-accused must sign for five years and was sentenced to a three-year community order.
