A teacher who took dozens of secret photographs of pupils and kept almost 53,000 indecent images and videos of children has been jailed.

Jeffrey Wilson used a camera pen to take images of pupils and staff at Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech, before taking more photographs of students at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge.

Police officers carried out a warrant at Wilsons home in Bluebell Way, March after an IP address was linked to viewing indecent images of children online.

Several electronic devices including mobile phones, laptops, USB sticks and tablets were seized.

Of these devices, 45 upskirting images were taken over a six-month period from April to September 2019, when Wilson worked at the two schools.

Wilson had also used a hidden camera in a clock to secretly film a woman undressing at his home.

A further search of Wilsons property was also conducted, where officers found the pen used to secretly take photographs at the schools.

Analysis of the electronic devices seized from Wilsons home also revealed nearly 53,000 indecent images or videos of children.

Of these, 90 were category A the most severe.

Wilson, 31, admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, three of voyeurism and two of recording an image under clothing to observe another without consent.

On August 30 at Peterborough Crown Court, Wilson was jailed for a year and was made subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

DC Keith Evans said Wilson abused his position of trust at the schools, both with staff and colleagues.

This was a truly disturbing case, said DC Evans.

Wilson was in a position of trust, which he abused by violating both colleagues and students for his own gratification.

His behaviour towards the woman he secretly filmed at his home was also disgusting. Im pleased his offending has been discovered and he has now faced justice.

DC Evans added: These images were taken without the knowledge of the victims and it is impossible to identify them.

Wilsons actions will inevitably cause a great deal of distress to pupils, their parents and staff at the schools.

A trusted school IT worker downloaded and shared vile photos and videos of children as young as two being sexually abused.

Matthew Bateman's online activities only came to light after he arranged to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for a drive in his car and a burger. In fact the defendant was communicating with members of a so-called paedophile hunter group who confronted him at the agreed rendezvous point in a local park.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Bateman downloaded the child sex abuse images over a period of almost a decade, and a judge said it was troubling that the defendant had been in possession of such material while a valued member of staff at the school and mixing on a daily basis with pupils.

Megan Jones, prosecuting, told the court that in February last year Bateman contacted what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl on the Kik app. The defendant began exchanging messages with the contact, and during the conversation he talked about meeting the girl, taking her for a "spin" in his car, and visiting a McDonald's burger restaurant together. In fact the profile he was communicating with was an account being run by a so-called paedophile hunter group.

The Carmarthenshire man arranged to meet the supposed schoolgirl in Drefach Park on February 23, and when he turned up he was confronted by the people running the decoy account. Thee police were called and 40-year-old was arrested, later giving a "no comment" interview.

Miss Jones said Bateman subsequently rang Ysgol Gyfun y Strade in Llanelli where he worked in the IT department and told the headteacher he had "done something stupid" and been speaking to an underage girl. The defendant no longer works at the school.

The court heard that a search warrant was executed at Bateman's home address, and electronic devices were seized and examined. Police found a total of 299 indecent images of Category A showing the most extreme kinds of sexual abuse along with 255 of Category B and 417 of Category C. Some of the photos and videos showed toddlers as young as two being sexually abused, and they had been downloaded over a period of almost a decade. The court heard there was also evidence the defendant had shared a small number of images of all three categories with others.

The prosecutor said the defendant had not been charged with any offences in relation to the communication with the decoy account being operated by paedophile hunters.

Mathew Bateman, of Crwbin, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, had previously pleaded guilty to making - that is possessing - indecent images of Category A, B and C, and to distributing indecent images of Category A, B and C when he appeared in the dock for sentencing. He has no previous convictions.

Matt Murphy, for Bateman, said his client's conviction had already had a significant impact on his life, leading not only the loss of his job but also to the ending of his relationship with his partner. He said the court orders which would inevitably accompany the defendant's sentence would make it extremely difficult for him to find work in the IT sector where unfettered access to computers was an integral part of the job. The advocate added that while the dates of the offending spanned almost a decade, it had not been a period of continuous offending over that length of time but rather there had been a "relapse into previous behaviour" during the Covid lockdown.

Judge Geraint Walters told Bateman that the children in the photographs and videos he downloaded were not actors but were real youngsters being sexually abused. He said he was troubled by the fact that Bateman had such material while being a valued member of staff at a school and mixing daily with youngsters.

The judge noted that Bateman maintained he did not derive any sexual gratification from the images - something the judge said courts routinely heard in such cases and always treated with scepticism - but he said what "gives the lie" to that version of events was that the defendant had arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl.

With a one-third discount for his guilty pleas Bateman was sentenced to a total of 14 months in prison comprising eight months for the possession charges and 14 months for the distribution charges to run concurrently. He will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. He will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years, and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same length of time which is designed to control his access to the internet.

A 'predatory' paedophile living next door to a primary school who directed a man in the US to sexually abuse a toddler while he watched online has been jailed for 20 years.

Luke Smith, 53, lived just yards away from the school in West Sussex as he begged the man to commit the horrific acts to a 20-month-old toddler on camera for him.

He then moved to a new home sandwiched between two inner-city schools in Portsmouth which are a stone's throw from each other.

But the convicted paedophile has been jailed for 20 years after a string of offences including posing as a 20-year-old woman on an online messaging service to convince the unnamed man in the US to sexually abuse his partner's son.

Officers from Sussex Police worked alongside the FBI in the US to catch the predator who was committing crimes online while using fake names and a different gender.

After raiding his home, they found child porn and chat logs with dozens of requests Smith made for the victim to be abused.

Smith had been living on a street right next to Barnham Primary School in West Sussex.

But a few months later, he moved to a road in Portsmouth right next to Mayfield School and round the corner from Cliffdale Primary Academy.

Smith admitted 13 child sex offences at Portsmouth Crown Court - nine of which were encouraging the penetrative sexual assault of a child under 13 and four of making indecent images of children.

The offences occurred between July 2018 and December 2019.

Detective Sergeant David Rose, from Sussex Police, said: 'Luke Smith is a predatory paedophile who thought he could hide by committing his crimes online while pretending to be a different gender and using a fake name.

'Although Smith's actions cannot be undone, we hope that his admission of guilt and long custodial sentence will bring some form of closure to the victim and his family.

'His actions are amongst the most reprehensible the team have encountered, and I thank them for their strength and professionalism throughout the investigation.

'We would also like to place on record our thanks to the FBI for their help and transparency during the investigation.'

Smith is now on the sex offenders register for life.

A boasting Snapchat predator has been jailed after he offered to send pictures of his big package to a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

David Collings, of Topsham, claimed to be a 21-year-old Londoner called Gypsy Davy but was actually a lonely 26-year-old who has a history of online abuse.

He was banned from using Snapchat by a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) but installed the app on his phone despite a specific warning from the police, Exeter Crown Court was told.

He used two different accounts on the app, calling himself Davyboy and GypsyDave and made contact with the girl from Essex earlier this year.

The police were alerted after her horrified mother found a stream of messages on her phone in which he offered to send her pictures of his boy and sent a voice note which asked Ive got a big package, can you handle it?.

Collings is a registered sex offender who has previously performed webcam sex acts while being watched online by an 11-year-old girl. The SHPO was intended to prevent him doing the same thing again and allowed the police to monitor his internet and social media activity.

His police offender manager caught him with Snapchat on his phone four times in six months during unannounced visits. He was given a specific warning on the first occasion and prosecuted over the other three.

Collings, of Exeter Road, admitted sexual communications with a child, two breaches of the SHPO, and breach of a suspended sentence imposed for the first breach in March.

He was jailed for a total of a year and 10 months by Judge Timothy Rose, who put him on the sex offenders register for 10 years and imposed a tighter SHPO which will last for the same length of time.

He told him: You carried on doing as you pleased. I have to look at the history of what you have done and you have breached the order for the third time.

That raises a profound concern about the level of risk that you pose and will continue to pose in terms of committing sexual offences directed towards young people.

"I have made a new SHPO but your history does not indicate much optimism that you will comply with it.

Judith Constable, prosecuting, said Essex Police contacted the Devon and Cornwall force in February this year over messages that had been sent to a 15-year-old girl from a Snapchat account in Devon.

Inquiries led them to identify Collings, who had used two different names and claimed to be aged 21 and living in London.

He repeatedly asked for pictures from the girl and offered to send explicit pictures of himself, despite her telling him not to.

Miss Constable said: She felt uncomfortable and each time she was asked, she said no. He sent a voice note which said Ive got a big package, can you handle me? to which she did not reply.

Shortly afterwards, the childs mother found the messages and took the phone away.

"She said she had been concerned about a change in her daughters behaviour over the six weeks in which the messages were sent.

Layla Jhaveri, defending, said Collings suffers from severe autism but has been able to hold down a job as a building labourer and has been working well with probation to change his behaviour.

Officers confronted Smoggie who was seen acting 'suspiciously' around women

A registered sex offender was spotted taking "hundreds" of pictures of women at a Pride event by plain clothes police officers.

Andrew Smoggie - also previously known as Andrew Mackie, 51, of Thelwall Lane, Warrington, was caught acting "suspiciously" around women during Manchester Pride on Peter Street in the city.

When police checked his phone they found hundreds of pictures of women and they suspected many were taken at Pride. Specialist officers had detected that Smoggie was walking around with his phone to his ear, but the screen was discreetly in photo mode.

Police officers caught him taking a picture of a woman who was unconscious of his actions and they confronted him.

After being spoken to by police he was identified as a registered sex offender with an order preventing him from taking pictures of any female not known to him whilst in a public.

Smoggie was charged with a breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). A SHPO is a court order that can be requested by the police, imposed in court when there is a specific concern about an individual. It can remain in place for at least five years - or can be imposed by a court indefinitely and any breach is a criminal offence.

Conditions for a SHPO can consist of telling the police what devices they own, who they are in contact with, and, in exceptional cases, restricts where they can and cannot go in the community.

He was remanded in police custody and appeared at Manchester & Salford Magistrates court on Monday, August 29 where he pleaded guilty.

A sports massage therapist from Wymondham who admitted sexually assaulting two women has been jailed.

Leon Tomasso, age 35, of Papillion Road, Wymondham, appeared at Kings Lynn Crown Court today (Tuesday 30 August 2022) and was jailed for four years.

Tomasso admitted two counts of assault by penetration on two women in November 2019 at an earlier court hearing.

The court heard how Tomasso assaulted the first victim on 19 November 2019 during one of her regular sports massages at a clinic in Acle.

The victim told officers how Tomasso had said he had misread the signs when she challenged him immediately following the assault. Then, when she questioned him over which signs had made him think that was ok, he told her: Im sorry, it was my male urges that took over. It wont happen again.

The following day Tomasso assaulted a second woman during a sports massage at a gym in Norwich. The second victim told officers how Tomasso had said the assault was part of the wind-down and how he thought she would enjoy it, when she challenged him. He later told her he knew hed crossed the line and that hed "let his emotions get away from him.

Both victims reported the assaults to Norfolk Police and Tomasso was arrested at his home on 21 November 2019 and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He was released on police bail and subsequently charged.

In their Victim Personal Statements (VPS), both women described how they are still suffering the effects of the assaults nearly three years later.

The first victim said: I cant even begin to articulate the look on my husbands face when I broke down sobbing and attempted to tell him what had happened.

I have always looked for the good in people, focused on their positivesbut Tomasso has changed me. I now find myself filled with mistrust, wary of mens intentions and fearful of being nice in case its misconstruedand hope that eventually I will come to terms with what has happened, but the impact on me and my life cannot be underestimated.

In her VPS, the second victim said I felt completely violated and distraught. I thought I was supposed to be in a place of safety and respect, but this was not the case.

The last two and half years has caused a lot of stress and heartache, not only for myself but also my family and my fianc. Even though they do not mention it, I still see the sleepless nights and anxiety on their faces. I have become jaded and suspicious of people and that trust in people can be so easily broken.

Detective Constable Hollie Blaker, who led the investigation, said: The victims will never forget what happened, but I hope todays sentence brings some closure to their ordeal. I thank them for their courage in coming forward and for their resilience, strength, and support over the past two-and-a-half years in getting this case to court. They have never wavered, even in spite of the amount of time that has passed since the assaults, and have been supremely brave throughout. I know this has been distressing for them and their loved ones.

Tomasso exploited and abused their trust when they turned to him for help and were at their most vulnerable. Today it is because of the bravery and determination of these women that we have been able to put Tomasso behind bars."

A social worker at a Derbyshire children's home has admitted grooming and sexually assaulting a teenage boy more than four decades after the victim reported the abuse. Derby Crown Court heard how after being assaulted by Paul Harvey, the victim was told to keep quiet by the now 73-year-old defendant.

But instead he reported the abuse and was not believed at the time and has spent more than 40 years telling others of the ordeal he went through while in care. In 2017 a second man who also sexually assaulted him at the same home was jailed for 10 years for carrying out sex attacks on him and four other care home children.

Now he finally has his justice on Harvey who was likewise jailed in the 1980s for similar offences. Handing him a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, Judge Michael Fowler said: "You served a significant custodial sentence in 1984 for similar offences committed against other boys in a children's home.

"You were a member of staff at Greenacres, in Clay Cross, a social worker responsible for the counselling of (the victim) who was in there as he had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of another. You had responsibilities and you groomed him."

Robert Underwood, prosecuting, said the sex attack happened when the victim was in his mid-teens and the defendant was a social worker at Greenacres, which was run by Derbyshire County Council. He said the then teen was at the home after allegations of sexual assault by a different man led him to being convicted of assault .

The prosecutor said: "He had authority and responsibility over his young charges and we say he groomed him (the victim) with kindness and attention. One night he took him to a flat he was using that night and gave his lager which caused this young boy to suffer some memory loss.

"He says the next thing he recalls was waking up on his front with his trousers and pants down and the defendant on top of him (sexually assaulting him). He (later) said this made him remember the pain he suffered when he was sexually abused before."

Mr Underwood said: "The defendant sent him back to his room with the instruction not to tell anyone but he did make a complaint to another member of staff but, sadly, that was not believed and he was moved to Moorfields Children's Home, in Sinfin." He said the local authority did carry out an investigation but "formed the view" that no action needed to be taken.

The prosecutor said: "But the complainant continued to tell people for years he had been sexually abused in care. He went on to say a second man at Greenfields, called Duncan Ritchie, has sexually abused him and in 2017 he (Ritchie) was jailed for more than 10 years (after he was found guilty of eleven sexual charges involving five teenagers following a trial)."

Mr Underwood said a police investigation into Harvey, then of Pilsley, was launched in 2019 after the victim disclosed to officers what happened when they spoke to him about an unrelated matter. The defendant, now of Dayton Road, Hull, was interviewed, denied the allegation and told officers he recalled the victim was moved from Clay Cross to Derby as he "was a trouble maker".

But he later pleaded guilty to sexual assault. In 1984, he was jailed for 30 months for similar offences against boys at the children's home, Mr Underwood said. John Dunning, mitigating, said: "Actions speak louder than words and there is no way what I say can compensate for what (the victim) has suffered over the years."

As well as the suspended jail sentence, Harvey was also ordered to pay 1,000 compensation to the victim and was handed a four-month curfew confining him to his home address each daytime between 11am and 10pm. He was also handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offender register for 10 years.

In 2017, after Ritchie, then 71 and of Highfields Way, Holmewood, Chesterfield, was jailed for 11-and-a-half years, Derbyshire County Council issued an apology to his victims saying we deeply regret if there have been complaints that may not have been dealt with as they should have been at the time they were made.

A "highly dangerous" sex offender who raped and assaulted two women and fled the country to try and evade justice has been jailed for 18 years.

Mircea Cicalo, 22, of no fixed abode, fled to Romania after he was arrested.

He was found through a European Arrest Warrant and extradited back to the UK, where he pleaded guilty to two rapes.

Cicalo carried out both his attacks in Luton in 2018 within three weeks of one another.

At around 6.40am on Saturday 13 October, a passer-by called the emergency services after finding a woman in her 40s with facial injuries in distress in a ditch in Cromwell Road.

The victim, who needed hospital treatment, had been seriously assaulted by Cicalo, who approached her in New Bedford Road before raping her and leaving her in the ditch.

Then, in the early hours of 2 November, a woman in her 20s reported being raped and beaten by a man who had engaged her in conversation as she walked through Luton town centre.

Responding officers arrested a man within minutes of her 999 call after CCTV operators tracked him leaving the scene, but in interview Cicalo claimed it was consensual intercourse and denied the assault.

He was bailed and officers continued the investigation.

As the investigation continued, in February 2019, Cicalos DNA profile was matched to the attack in October, but by this time he had fled the country and gone into hiding.

A European Arrest Warrant (EAW) was issued to aid the hunt for him, and in February 2021 he was extradited to the UK.

A Cambridge paedophile asked who he thought was a 13-year-old girl for naked photos the day before he was meant to appear in court for a number of breaches of a court order and Sex Offender requirements. However, his crimes were uncovered when the young girl turned out to be an adult.

Thomas Turney, 41, was caught at his Cambridge home in March this year, hours before he was due to be sentenced in court. Turney, who was conversing with an online child activist group on a dating app, in another conversation asked another adult pretending to be a 13-year-old girl if she wanted sex with him and also asked for a picture.

On the same app, he asked someone posing as a 14-year-old if they wanted to be a whore as well as repeatedly asking another posing as 13-year-old if she wanted a boyfriend and said 13 is not too young. This put him in breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which forbade him to communicate with any child he had not met in person or should reasonably be aware to be under 18.

The following day, Turney was supposed to be sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court after admitting three breaches of an SHPO and two breaches of his Sex Offender Register notification requirements but that was adjourned. In September 2021, detectives had visited him at home and warned him after they found he had been using a dating site he had not notified police about.

Detectives visited him again in October and requested to inspect his mobile phone which was a condition of his SHPO. Turney handed over the phone and his internet history showed vast usage of a dating site where his profile picture was not him and he used the username tony674665.

He was found to be in breach of his SHPO by using a different name as well as his notification requirements by not telling police within three days of activating this profile name. Further inspection of Turneys phone internet history found he had been using another dating app he had failed to tell police about, further putting him in breach of his SHPO.

He was using a profile called Dragon_Master (Tina Turney) and used the profile picture of a blonde woman wearing a revealing dress. Detectives also found he had been using Facebook under the name Lucy Stevens with the same profile picture used for the Dragon_Master account.

Again, this put him in breach of both his SHPO and notification requirements. On Friday, August 19 at Cambridge Crown Court, Turney, of Langdale Close, Cambridge, was jailed for three years, having admitted seven breaches of his SHPO, two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of failing to comply with Sex Offender Register notification requirements.

He was also given a 10-year SHPO. DC Andrew McKeane said: Thomas Turney clearly knew the requirements of both his SHPO as well as his notification requirements but showed blatant disregard for them by using different names on dating apps and social media, not telling police about some of the apps and names he was using and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He is a risk to children and I am grateful that we were alerted to this illegal behaviour which in turn brought about a swift guilty plea. Cambridgeshire Constabulary take a zero-tolerance approach and our main aim within the Management of Sexual or Violent Offender (MOSOVO) team is to protect vulnerable children whether in the real world or online.

In this instance, the use of Turneys SHPO allowed swift evidence gathering as well as identifying further offending. His fresh 10-year order going forward will allow for this to continue once he is released from prison and the unit will utilise these powers on every available occasion.

Serial sex offender, Irene Torrie, 42, has previous convictions for grinding up against a train conductor and carrying out a sex act in front of police, a court heard

A randy woman groped a male taxi driver and exposed herself to him, before offering to pay for sex.

Serial sex offender, Irene Torrie, clambered into the front of the cab before stripping off her shorts and exposing herself to the driver.

She also forced the shocked driver to touch her breasts, thighs and buttocks, before telling him she had a condom with her and that she was a good f*** who would pay him if he came into her house.

The 42-year-old, who has previous convictions for rubbing her body against a train conductor and carrying out a sex act in front of police, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Torrie had a sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Paul Brown queried whether a woman could be placed on the Tay Project - a rehabilitation scheme for sex offenders.

The Dundee resident admitted sexually assaulting the driver on various roads in the city on May 29, 2020 by touching his penis and exposing her vagina to him.

She admitted making sexual comments and forcing him to touch her.

She also admitted shouting, swearing and making racist remarks to a couple in Balmuir Road, Dundee, on June 1, 2020.

Finally, she admitted communicating indecently with a neighbour by asking to have sex with him and commenting on his penis size on August 1, 2020.

Prosecutor Lora Apostolova told the court: "She sat in the back seat and started asking questions.

"She asked where he was born, if he was married, and if he would cheat on his wife.

"She climbed over into the front seat.

"The driver pulled over and told her she couldn't move seats while he was in motion.

"She touched his penis over his clothing with both of her hands.

"He removed her hands.

"The accused removed her shorts and showed her vagina and said 'I would like you to lick it.'

"He told her to put her shorts back on."

Torrie was dropped at her ex-husbands home to try to persuade him to give her money and alcohol

According to the driver Torrie's ex said: Be careful of her. Take her away. We dont want her here.

The driver started recording on his mobile phone and Torrie said: Ill pay you if you come inside. Are you f****** or not?

In a previous case, Torrie admitted causing uproar on a train after a Prosecco binge by rubbing her body against the conductor who tried to calm her down.

The conductor asked the serial sex pest where she was going and she replied: You can take me anywhere.

After grinding her body against the shocked conductor, Torrie was thrown off the Dundee-bound train in Perth and arrested by British Transport Police.

A year earlier she had been placed on the Register after performing a sex act in front of police when they turned up to quiz her about a neighbour dispute.

A Yorkshire sex offender who preyed on girls between six and seven years old died from heart failure while serving a sentence at HMP Hull a report has revealed.

David Raymond May, 57 at the time of his death, was jailed for the historic offences, carried out between 1996 and 1998, in November 2019. He was given five years behind bars for what was described as "a sickening sexual assault on a very young and vulnerable girl".

In January 2021, May was reported to be suffering from a persistent cough chest pain but tested negative for Covid-19. Further investigations at Hull Royal Infirmary found that he was suffering from widespread cancer.

May would eventually succumb to heart failure in September of that year with his condition being linked to a chemotherapy drug. He was also suffering from testicular cancer which contributed to, but did not cause, his death according to the report.

May had initially received a six-year prison sentence at Lincoln Crown Court in May 2005 for indecent assaults on a seven-year-old girl between 2003 and 2004. He would later be hauled back before the courts in 2019 for the historic offence committed between 1996 and 1998.

North Yorkshire Police said May's victim was aged about six or seven when the attack happened and the offence was first reported to them in 2018. May had denied the attack until the first day of his trial in November 2019 when he pleaded guilty.

May, formerly of St Phillip's Grove in York, groomed the girl by offering money. He isolated her in part of the house where he indecently assaulted her.

May was sentenced to five years behind bars and was sent to HMP Hull. At the time of his conviction Detective Constable Alastair Foy, of North Yorkshire Police, said: This was a sickening sexual assault on a very young and vulnerable girl which had a massive and lasting impact on every aspect of her life."

A report from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman published in July this year has revealed that May died while serving his sentence for the attack. He first complained of chest pains and a persistent cough in January 2021.

Tests for Covid-19 proved negative but blood tests returned abnormal results and later investigations at Hull Royal Infirmary found May was suffering from widespread cancer. On April 25, he was transferred to St Jamess University Hospital, where he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

May was treated with a combination of chemotherapy medication and on July 25, he was discharged from hospital and was taken back to Hull. On July 29 he fell ill in his cell once again with symptoms consistent with post-chemotherapy.

May was sent to hospital for assessment on another occasion during in August before a marked deterioration on August 25 when he once again complained of chest pains and was weak with shortness of breath. There was a four hour delay for a non-emergency ambulance call during which time his condition deteriorated further.

His call was upgraded to an emergency call and he eventually arrived in hospital at 2.35am the following morning. Mr May was taken to St Jamess University Hospital and he was treated for community acquired pneumonia.

On September 16, it was confirmed that Mr May had died in hospital. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman said: "The pathologist gave Mr Mays cause of death as acute cor pulmonale (heart failure) caused by bleomycin toxicity (a recognised complication that can occur with the use of a chemotherapeutic drug, bleomycin). He also had disseminated germ cell tumour of testis (testicular cancer), which did not cause but contributed to his death."

Mr May was the 14th prisoner to die at HMP Hull since September 2019. Of the previous deaths, five were from natural causes, seven were self-inflicted and one was drug related.

The report concluded that there were no significant similarities between the findings in the investigation into Mr Mays death and findings from the investigations into the previous deaths. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman did not find any non-clinical issues of concern.

The report said: "The clinical reviewer concluded that the clinical care Mr May received at Hull was of a reasonable standard and equivalent to that which he could have expected to receive in the community. She made a number of recommendations about the need for healthcare staff to accurately record clinical observations using the NEWS2 tool, ensuring that specialist services are updated when a prisoners health deteriorates and that staff complete appropriate assessments when a prisoner returns from hospital."

The victim of a rape which took place in Cambridge has spoken out about "how much is still to be done on educating the world on what consent actually is" after her rapist was handed a seven year prison sentence. Following the incident Nya Kuatois was arrested on August 23, 2020.

The victim told officers she was awoken by the 31-year-old Kuatois raping her while she slept. Kuatois, of Glenalmond Avenue, Cambridge, denied the offence but was found guilty of rape at Cambridge Crown Court on August 26 this year.

He was sentenced on Wednesday, September 28, at the same court and placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely. The survivor later issued a statement.

It read: "Going through this has highlighted to me how much is still to be done on educating the world on what consent actually is. I am not an object, I am a mum, a girlfriend, a young woman who was enjoying a night out with friends.

"I hope that one day there will be a silver lining to this, and he will think twice before acting again, not for fear of criminal proceedings, but out of respect for women and their bodies, their feelings, and their lives."

DC Sarah Lloyd said: "I hope Kuatois uses his time in prison to reflect on his actions, which have understandably had a lasting impact on his victim. I would like to commend her for her bravery in coming forward and supporting a conviction.

"I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of any form of sexual abuse to report it to police. Please be assured that we will always treat you with the utmost sensitivity and respect.

A 41-year-old man from Portsmouth has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after admitting to an indecent exposure in Southsea.

Terry Colin Cronin, of St Michaels Road, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

The charges relate to an incident that was reported to us in June of last year.

On  the morning of June 8 2021, a woman in her 60s was walking along Frensham Road when she saw a man indecently exposing himself and carrying out a sexual act at the window of a nearby property. He then knocked on the window in an attempt to get her attention.

Appearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday (24 August), Cronin was sentenced to 26 months in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.

Following the sentencing Detective Constable James Adams, who led the investigation, said: “In imposing this custodial sentence, the court has acknowledged the severity of this offence, the impact on the victim and the community as a whole. I would like to thank the woman involved in this case who felt able to tell us about what had happened and played a vital role in securing this conviction.

“Cronin’s actions placed the woman in a shocking and distressing situation. No-one should be made to feel this way and we hope that this sentence shows that we will investigate reports of this nature and do everything in our power to bring perpetrators to justice.

"We hope that people feel they can speak to us, or one of the many support services available, if they have been the victim of this type of crime.”

A Portsmouth man has been jailed for 13 years after being convicted of raping a child.

Paul Deacon, 67, was found guilty following a trial of a string of non-recent sexual offences against a young girl between the ages of 8 and 15. Some of the offences dated back to more than 20 years ago.

Deacon denied one count of rape, five counts of indecent assault, one count of gross indecency and one count of inciting a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity.

Following a trial this month at Portsmouth Crown Court, Deacon was convicted on all charges.

He was sentenced at the same court yesterday (25 August), when he was jailed for 13 years.

Speaking after the case Detective Constable Graham Skull, of Hampshire Constabulary’s specialist Operation Amberstone team, said: "Paul Deacon is a sexual predator who forced himself on an innocent young girl on multiple occasions.

"I would like to commend the victim for her bravery and courage in coming to us to report her ordeal and help secure the guilty verdict against this despicable man.

"I hope she finds some comfort in knowing the man who attacked her will now be behind bars for many years.

"This sentence shows our commitment to bringing sexual offenders like Deacon to justice. I hope results like this continue to encourage victims to come forward and report crimes to us."

A Portsmouth man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for a string of online sexual abuse offences.

Travis Koffi Alden, 24, of St Faiths Road, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 25 August) having pleaded guilty to 39 counts of online sexual abuse offences involving ten victims across the country and internationally, all aged between 9 and 13 at the time the offences took place.

The court heard how police were first made aware of the case when a report was made in August 2019 to officers in Wales that an 11-year-old girl had been receiving sexually explicit messages. An investigation was launched and the mobile phone sending the messages was found to belong to Alden, who lived in Portsmouth. Officers from the Internet Child Abuse Team (ICAT)  arrested him and seized his mobile phone and laptop for examination, which revealed a number of further victims.

Between these devices, officers discovered hundreds of indecent images, which included the most serious, category A images.

Alden was charged with inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, taking/making indecent images of children (category A, B and C), distributing indecent images of children (category A) and possessing extreme pornography.

He has now been sentenced to ten years in prison with a five year extended licence, a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has had to forfeit his devices.

Detective Constable Stephen Hill of Hampshire Constabulary’s ICAT team, who led the investigation, said: “Behind every indecent image or message of or to a child is a vulnerable victim and these crimes are among the most appalling that we investigate.

“This was a long and complex investigation requiring a great deal of effort to identify numerous victims across the United Kingdom and beyond and seek justice for them.

“Alden preyed on young girls on various chat sites, encouraging them to engage in sexualised conversations or acts. The impact that such abuse has on these young victims is immeasurable and we are pleased that we have been able to support them and bring Alden to justice.

“Tacking online abuse of this nature and supporting children online is a priority for us and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”
