A man has been convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against a teenage girl who showed incredible bravery in coming forward to speak to police.

Colin Moore – 57 (04.06.66) of Grove Lane, Southwark was found guilty of four counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault following the conclusion of a trial at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 24 May. Moore was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at the same venue on 9 September 2024.

The court heard how Moore took advantage of the girl who was under the age of 16 at the time the offending started in 1995. Moore’s abuse took place over the next four years at locations in west and central London.

The girl, by now an adult, came forward and reported the abuse to police in 2020. Moore was arrested and subsequently charged with numerous offences.

A serial abuser has been jailed for nine years for serious sexual offences committed in Perthshire.

Clifford Hodgkins, 42, abused a woman over the course of 19 months between September 2020 and January 2022 at locations in Blairgowrie.

He was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh earlier this year of rape, physical and sexual assaults and abusive behaviour, including brandishing a screwdriver at his victim.

He was sentenced to nine years in prison with a further three years' supervision and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

A world-renowned classical music conductor who pleaded guilty to child sex offences, including messaging someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, has been spared jail.

Jan Latham-Koenig had admitted arranging sex acts with someone he thought was a teenager, but was in fact an undercover police officer, London’s Southwark Crown Court had heard.

On Tuesday, the 70-year-old was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by Judge Alexander Milne, who told him he has been “humiliated in the public eye”.

The judge also told him his successful career means that, unlike other defendants who may be “unknown before and unknown after, that is the not case for Mr Latham-Koenig”.

Latham-Koenig, from Belsize Park, north-west London, had previously pleaded guilty to three charges.

He was sentenced to 14 months each for attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and also arranging or facilitating the commission of a sexual offence with a child between December 9 2023 and January 11 this year.

He was also given 10 months’ imprisonment for engaging in sexual communication with a child.

All sentences are to run concurrently.

Latham-Koenig was made an OBE in 2020 for services to music and UK-Russian cultural relations.

He has conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and all the BBC ensembles.

The judge, who described Latham-Koenig’s actions as “deeply worrying behaviour”, told the court: “This is a gentleman of 70 years of age who has a long and distinguished cultural career behind him.

“I would give credit for the pleas and at an early stage.

“I accept that there is clear remorse on the part of the defendant and that he has suffered – effectively this would have brought his career to an end.

Latham-Koenig had used a dating app to make contact with someone he knew as Jacob.

He believed Jacob was a 14-year-old boy, who was in fact an undercover police officer.

Their conversations became sexual and Latham-Koenig gave him a train ticket to Victoria station in London so they could meet but instead the conductor was arrested.

No child was physically put at risk at any stage, the court heard.

The judge said: “What is clear is that, from the latter part of last year, he entered conversations on a dating app, accepted to be frequently used by bisexual and homosexual men, to strike up conversations with a person whom he believed was Jacob, a 14-year-old boy.

“Jacob did not exist.

“He was an undercover police officer.

“The conversations were of a sexual nature on a number of occasions.

“At one stage the defendant sent Jacob a photograph of a naked penis.”

The judge noted there were discussions about keeping their conversations secret.

Latham-Koenig was “particularly concerned” that Jacob’s mother should not know about it.

The judge added: “He believed Jacob was gay.

“He gave Jacob a train ticket to Victoria for travel for where they were to meet.

“It is clear that the defendant in these conversations – the defendant, who is 70 – had lied about his own age.

“He said he was 49.”

The judge said that “fondling between them was discussed and there was discussion of them going further than merely talking”.

Jacob was “encouraged to delete the electronic messages and any electronic trail between them”.

The judge also said that “a gift in the form of a train ticket was provided”.

Prosecutor Bill McGivern said the contact began on a dating app before moving on to WhatsApp messages.

Mr McGivern said that at one point during the conversations: “The defendant said he was a conductor in classical music and was dying to meet someone like Jacob.”

Defence counsel Eleanor Laws said the case has had a “devastating effect” on Latham-Koenig, who has suffered “a loss of his career” which was something he “worked very hard at and was his great passion”.

He is also dealing with the “feelings of distress” and “upset” he has caused to his family and has not shown “self-pity or a lack of understand as to what needs to be addressed”, according to Ms Laws.

She added that Latham-Koenig’s friends, who say he is “kind, humble and generous with his time”, are sticking by him and he has taken “considerable steps to address his offending behaviour”, including undergoing intensive therapy.

A MAN who shared a child abuse film with fellow paedophiles was also caught with “sadistic” images showing depraved acts committed against babies and young children.

David Owen from Caerphilly was part of an online chat group when he passed around a category A indecent video showing a five-year-old being sexually assaulted.

Category A images depict the worse kind of child abuse.

Owen had also been talking about the sexual abuse of children with other members of the group.

Police found nearly 100 indecent images on the defendant’s iPhone when they raided the 41-year-old’s home address.

Alexander Greenwood, prosecuting, told Cardiff Crown Court they discovered 31 category A, 24 category B and 39 category C images on Owen’s iPhone.

The victims were aged between six months old and 10.

Owen admitted distributing an indecent image of a child, possessing a prohibited image of a child and three counts of possessing an indecent image of a child.

The defendant, of Bryn-Rhedyn, was also found with bestiality images of adults having sex with animals.

He further admitted possessing an extreme pornographic image.

The offences were committed between November 11, 2022 and December 20, 2022.

Owen, represented by Ben Waters, was a man of previous good character with no convictions recorded against him.

The court was asked to give the defendant the appropriate credit for his guilty pleas.

Judge Carl Harrison said to Owen: “You had sadistic material which showed the victims suffering, some of them as young as six months old.

“Your offending is further aggravated by the fact that you were part of an active network.”

He jailed the defendant for two years and two months and told him he would have to register as a sex offender for the next 10 years.

Owen was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention for 10 years and ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge following his release form prison.

A male predator who dressed as a woman to sexually abuse a 20-year-old man in Bishop’s Stortford was jailed for 10 years on Tuesday (May 28).

Wayne Rogers, now 48, was wearing a wig and fake breasts when he picked up the victim, who was “absolutely hammered” having spent the evening in the town centre.

Rogers, a bald hairdresser, led him to his car and drove him a short distance before stopping to carry out the attack, part of which he videoed.

He appeared for sentence at St Albans Crown Court having been convicted by a jury last September of assault by penetration, two offences of sexual assault and two offences of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Judge Francis Sheridan told Rogers: “He was chosen by you because he was intoxicated and you could see he was intoxicated. You could see he was vulnerable.

“You sexually abused him for your own sexual excitement and satisfaction.”

In 2022, Rogers, of Plaw Hatch Close, Bishop’s Stortford, had appeared at the same court before a different judge for three separate trials in which he was accused of offences against other men.

While dressed as a woman he was said to have performed oral sex on a drunken worker who had been to his firm’s Christmas party in December 2019.

The man had left a pub and was guided into an alleyway by a person with long fingernails, who was wearing perfume. He was spun around before being attacked. Rogers, who said the activity was consensual, was found not guilty of sexual assault.

At the end of a second trial, Rogers was found not guilty of causing a second man, who thought he was a woman, to engage in sexual activity without consent. That was between May 2018 and April 2020.

Rogers said he met the man every couple of weeks on a Friday or Saturday in a field or a car park. The complainant believed he was having sexual activity with a woman.

A third jury cleared him of coercive control in an intimate or family relationship with another man between January and July 2016.

Three months after his third acquittal, Rogers preyed on the 20-year-old in the early hours of Sunday September 11, 2022.

At the trial which followed, prosecutor Mark Trafford KC said: “He goes out for all intents and purposes dressed as, and looking like, a woman, with a wig and with breast replacements.

“He finds his drunk young man and goes to an out-of-the-way place where he engages in abuse – sexual contact with the young man, away from prying eyes.

“He is a sexual predator that picks on drunken men and deceives them by being dressed as a woman.

“The complainant in this case was very drunk. He [Rogers] picked on him because he was absolutely hammered.”

Mr Trafford said the victim had drunkwine, gin, Prosecco and vodka over five hours. He had been to JD Wetherspoon’s Port Jackson pub before moving on to Bacchus nightclub.

He had escorted a woman friend to a car, where she was picked up and taken home. He had fallen over a couple of times in the town centre when Rogers, dressed as a woman, spotted him and led him to his car.

The prosecutor went on: “He got into the car, was driven a short distance away and was sexually assaulted. Through the fog of alcohol, he recalls being sexually assaulted in the car park and then somewhere else out of the way.

“It was without any consent whatsoever. It was degrading and he was left at 5am in the morning somewhere. He woke up on a patch of grass.”

He told his father, when they drove into the town the next day to look for his phone, he had been assaulted. He was taken to a sexual assault referral centre.

Mr Trafford said the man told the nurse that he remembered the person who assaulted him had a deep and distinctive voice.

In a personal statement, the victim said: “When I am not distracted and am alone with my thoughts, I feel sad or numb.”

Rogers was arrested on November 4, 2022. At his home, police found two blonde wigs and a pair of fake breasts under his bed.

A police dog alerted its handler to the headboard of Rogers’ bed. Inside there was a mobile phone.

When it was examined, officers found an image of the victim sitting motionless, wearing just white socks, while the defendant fondled him.

Internet search history on Rogers’ phone included search terms such as: “Drunk friend f…….”, “F…… drunk sleeping friend,” “Drunk guy getting f……” and “Sleeping drunk gay friend f…..”

Defending Alexander Wright, said: “He had a hairdresser shop and then [worked] as a mobile hairdresser.”

Mr Wright said that in his previous trials, Rogers had described himself as being “like a woman trapped in a man’s body”.

Judge Sheridan told Rogers: “This young man was a complete and utter innocent and a complete stranger.

“He was an easy prey for you. There was a degree of planning. You went out dressed with your fake breasts and wig.”

Rogers must register as a sex offender for life and must abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.

Daniel Neary, a 41-year-old man, was arrested after sending sexual images to what he believed was a 12-year-old boy named Rory on a dating website.

Unbeknownst to him, the profile actually belonged to an undercover police officer.

When police searched Neary's home, they found explicit photos of children as young as eight, as well as search terms for indecent images.

Neary pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and possessing indecent photographs of children.

His defense argued for rehabilitation, stating that he had no prior offenses.

However, the judge condemned his actions, stating that Neary had a sexual interest in children and had encouraged a child to engage in sexual activities for his own gratification.

Despite this, the judge decided to suspend Neary's ten-month sentence for two years, with the requirement of rehabilitation and unpaid work.

Neary will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and notification requirements for the next decade.

Magistrates have imposed a sexual risk order against a man accused of having ‘spied on girls’ in cubicles.

Zac Soliman, 23, appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Soliman had ‘1.5million indecent images of children’ on his phone – despite him doing a factory reset on the device when police came knocking.

The court also heard alleged incidents of Soliman using his phone to record children in cubicles.

Prosecuting, Ned Sillett said: “On one occasion, the defendant put his hand – holding his phone – under a cubicle where a 10-year-old girl, and on another occasion, a 16-year-old girl, were present.

“They were both unknown to the defendant. This indicates that he has an active sexual interest in children

“His devices were also searched, and a vast quantity of indecent images were found – 1.5m in total."

Mr Sillett: “The defendant was arrested earlier this year and he took so long to answer the door, police forced entry.

“When they entered, they found the defendant had done a factory reset on his phone.

“Sex toys and lubricant were also found, and evidence suggests he carries them around with him in a bag in public places.

“There is a significant risk to the public, particularly children.”

Soliman, of Shaftesbury Road, Southsea, requested an adjournment so he could obtain legal aid.

Chair of the Magistrates’, Mr Dickinson said: “I will adjourn a decision for a full sexual risk order until June 10 to allow for legal aid for the defendant.

“This is a one-off opportunity but we feel there is a substantial risk that must be managed.

“We believe it is right and fair to impose an interim sexual risk order.”

Such an order is a civil court order that prevents a person from carrying out certain activities.

The full details of Soliman's order were not given in court.

A Southampton man who exposed himself on a seafront bench admitted to police that he has a sexual interest in children.

Kevin Heslin was wearing a blue skirt at Weston Shore when he was spotted by a 16-year-old girl who had been jogging, Southampton Crown Court heard.

The girl said she saw the 49-year-old sitting down with his genitals visible to passers-by and alerted a nearby woman and her two young girls.

The police were called and Heslin got up and began walking towards the Pitch and Putt before he was stopped and arrested.

Officers found a bottle of Johnson’s baby oil tied to his body with a piece of string which Heslin said was to help with chafing. They also found pink women’s underwear.

In a statement read out in court, the 16-year-old victim said: “I really don’t know why someone would expose themselves in a public place like that.

“I am left feeling distressed and violated by the man’s actions. My heart was racing and I felt scared.

“I honestly never thought I would witness anything so horrible whilst out for a run.”

When interviewed, Heslin told officers he is a heterosexual male but admitted that he has a sexual interest in children.

He claimed he didn’t intentionally expose himself and didn’t know that part of his body was visible.

Heslin, of Glen Road, Southampton, said he is a nudist and likes to wear skirts.

He answered no comment to all other questions following a discussion with his lawyer.

Heslin admitted exposure following the incident on August 10, 2023.

He has one previous conviction for exposing himself in 2011 when he was spotted in a wooded area wearing only a balaclava.

His barrister Richard Onslow said Heslin has remorse and has engaged in a course of therapy to address his behaviour.

Mr Onslow said: “He fully understands that he must not dress in such a way that there is any risk of exposure.”

He argued that his client goes to nudist beaches and that any court order should not prohibit him from doing that legally.

But Judge Christopher Parker said Heslin had admitted to deliberately exposing himself by pleading guilty.

He added that “nudist or not” someone with “his history should not be allowed to expose himself at all".

Addressing Heslin, the judge said: “There have to be concerns about your exposed sexual interest in pre-pubescent girls.”

Heslin received a three-year community order with 120 hours of unpaid work, 30 sessions on an accredited programme and five rehabilitation days.

He was made subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with children under 16 and from exposing himself in any public place.

He is also subject to notification requirements for the same period.

A man has admitted to having more than 700 indecent images of children on his devices.

Rory Lord, 40, remained stony-faced in the dock as he pleaded guilty to three charges.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard how on April 8, 2022, police were alerted to an upload of indecent images.

Identifying Lord as a suspect, officers attended his address and searched his devices.

Prosecuting, Anthony McCafferty said: “A search was conducted and his devices seized and searched.

“A total of 746 images were found on his devices. 133 of these were Category A – the most serious – 273 Category B, and 340 Category C.

“All children in the images were under the age of 16."

He added: “A bank card with someone else’s name on it was also found at the property.

“The defendant accepted that he found the card and was going to keep it. It is not linked ot the indecent images.”

Lord, of Somers Way in Eastleigh, admitted three charges of possessnig indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and theft.

Magistrates sent the case to Southampton Crown Court, where Lord will be sentenced on June 17.

“You must keep your nose clean until then,” he told Lord.

A MOLD sex-offender who was caught once again with indecent images of children has been put behind bars.

Fiontan Greaney, of Bryn Heulog, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday for sentence.

The 35-year-old had previously admitted three offences of making indecent images of children; one each at categories A, B and C.

Karl Scholz, prosecuting, told the court that in February 2019, Greaney was sentenced for offences of the same nature and received a three-year community order.

However in November 2022, police conducted an unannounced home visit at Greaney's home and examined his devices.

Initial checks turned up filenames of concern, which led to the seizure of his computer and hard drives.

A forensic examination of the items revealed two still images at category A (the most serious), two images and three videos at category C and 313 images and six videos at category C.

Some 844 images indicative of a sexual interest in children were also found.

When Greaney was arrested in September last year, he protested his innocence and denied having been in possession, or having downloaded, any such images.

Trevor Parry Jones, defending, told the court: "Mr Greaney presents as an unusual character.

"He's one of those classic children who, whilst in the school system, required assistance.

"His mother is sitting in the court and she's understandably distraught.

"She believes, albeit he's never been formally diagnosed, he suffered ADHD.

"The only way she can put it is 'he is definitely on the spectrum' whatever that may mean."

Mr Parry Jones said his client also suffered mobility issues due to a muscular-skeletal problem.

"He keeps explaining he wishes to stop doing what he is doing because it's causing harm and upset to others," he continued.

"His mother told me there are positive steps he is taking and she believed he is beginning to understand the nuances of what he must do and not do."

He added that while his client had been attempting to set up a business and at the time of the hearing had the use of a smartphone and laptop, discussions had taken place about whether

Greaney should be completely deprived of the internet.

Judge Rhys Rowlands told the defendant: "At this court in 2019, you were made the subject of a community order. Attached were rehabilitation and programme requirements meant to address the risk you pose to young children.

"Sadly, you're now back before this court for three more offences.

"The pre-sentence report makes depressing reading.

"You continue to deny having any sexual interest in children.

"In view of your past offending, your continuing to offend whilst subject to a previous order and a clear lack of insight, I'm afraid I am driven to the view that adequate punishment can't be achieved in the community."

Overall, Greaney received a custodial sentence of 32 weeks.

He must register as a sex offender for 10 years and will be made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period of time.

A man who was convicted of several sexual offences in Staffordshire has been sentenced to 15-years.

Kieran Huthwaite, 31, of Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, abused the survivors who eventually came forward and reported what had happened.

He was reported to police and arrested in November 2021. He denied what happened.

We started work to gather evidence which resulted in Huthwaite being charged and sent to court.

Following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, the jury reached a verdict on 31 January 2024 that Huthwaite was guilty of two counts of assault of a female under 13, one count of rape of a female under 16, one count of attempted rape of a female over 16, one count of sexual assault of a girl under 13 and one count sexual assault of a female over 16.

On Tuesday (21 May), he was given a 15-year extended sentence. He was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and put on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

A convicted sex offender bought sweets for two eight-year-old girls and then offered them money to get in his car, a court has heard.

William Harrison, 63, approached the two girls at a branch of Asda in Shipley in September 2022.

Bradford Crown Court heard how, after paying for the sweets, Harrison walked the girls to his car where he showed them an explicit photo on his phone before offering them both £5 to get into the vehicle.

Harrison, of Armstrong Street, Bradford, was jailed on Thursday for four years after he admitted charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and child abduction.

'Troubling material'

During the hearing it was revealed he had previously been jailed nearly 20 years ago for sexual assault on a lone female at Morley railway station and further offences of exposure and outraging public decency involving teenage girls.

Passing sentence, Recorder Anthony Hawks said Harrison had “troubling” sexual material on his mobile phone and that he had used the pretext of the sweets to get the girls to accompany him to his car.

“You offered them money to get in your car," said Recorder Hawks.

"Very sensibly they refused."

After jailing Harrison, the judge also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and told the defendant that he would have to comply with a restraining order for an unlimited time.

Harrison will also be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Following the hearing, Det Insp Tom Swift of West Yorkshire Police praised the victim's "bravery", adding: “Incidents of this nature are very rare, but this was truly every parent's worst nightmare.

"Harrison is a danger to children.

“Fortunately, these girls weren’t hurt, but were clearly distressed about what happened."

A former Rotherham taxi driver has been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting two girls more than 20 years ago.

Adam Ali, 43, attacked the girls between 2001 and 2004.

Sheffield Crown Court heard he repeatedly assaulted one victim, threatening to leave her stranded if she did not do what he told her.

Formerly known as Razwan Razaq, Ali was found guilty of four counts of rape and three of sexual assault after a trial.

He is due to be sentenced on 28 July.

'Clear message'

Ali was prosecuted as part of Operation Stovewood, the National Crime Agency's investigation into non-familial child sexual abuse and exploitation that took place in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

Liz Fell, from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), praised the victims in the case for coming forward.

She said: "It is because of their evidence that we were able to secure a conviction and bring their abuser to justice.

"I hope this conviction sends a clear message that the CPS, working alongside law enforcement, will relentlessly pursue justice and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, whenever that abuse takes place."

Ali was previously sentenced to 11 years imprisonment in 2010, after being convicted of committing offences of a similar nature.

A man has been jailed for 31 years after being found guilty of 29 sexual offences.

Brian Lines, 84, of Leek, was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment, with an extended licence period of one year, at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday (21 May) after he was found guilty by a jury following a trial earlier this month.

He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

He was found guilty of three counts of the rape of a female under 16, three counts of the rape of a female over 16 years or over, attempted rape of a female under 16, 16 counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years, four counts of sexual assault, assault of a girl under 13 by touching and sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.

The offences took place in Staffordshire between 1970 and 2009. They were reported in August 2021 and Lines was arrested shortly afterwards. Following an investigation by our Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, he was charged in January 2023.

DC Annie Blairs, of our Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, said: “The sentence was only possible thanks to the sheer determination and bravery of Lines’ victims. Despite denying the offences, a jury saw through his lies and he will now spend the rest of his life in prison.

“The impact on the victims is significant and long lasting and I hope this sentence provides some comfort in knowing they did the right thing in reporting his heinous crimes to us.

“We are committed to investigating those who carry out sexual offences, bringing them before the courts so that they can face justice, while supporting victims.”

A voyeur who recorded women in toilet cubicles for his own sexual gratification has been jailed.

Pawanjit Singh, also known as Robbie, snuck into female toilets and hid in cubicles before using his mobile phone to secretly record his victims as they used the toilet next to him.

He captured 26 clips and six images of numerous women in several different pubs in the North East in September 2020.

In May 2021, the 35-year-old was caught by a woman as he was in the act of recording her in the female toilets at Washington Service Station.

The woman confronted him, and subsequently contacted police.

The investigation progressed when police accessed Singhs mobile phone and, after interrogating the device, uncovered the voyeuristic content.

Singh was charged with 27 offences of voyeurism and appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates court in April where he pleaded guilty to all counts.

Last Thursday (May 2), Singh of Henry Street, Shiney Row, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court and was sentenced to one year in prison.

He will spend ten years on the Sex Offenders Register, was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and was ordered to have his devices destroyed.

Talking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Kate Bain, of Northumbria Police, said: We would like to thank the woman who turned out to be Singhs last victim after she witnessed and challenged his offending meaning the scale of his depravity was uncovered.

Singh secretly filmed women in what should have been a totally private space, without their knowledge or consent. He showed no respect for these women whatsoever and saw them only as tools for his own sexual gratification.
