Women came in through Manchester Airport to work in brothels A couple who trafficked vulnerable sex workers into the UK via Manchester Airport to work in a brothel have been jailed. Fabiani Alvez De Souza, 42, and her husband Gareth Derby, 53, were found guilty at trial of a number of offences following a large-scale police investigation into prostitution identified them. Officers working under North Yorkshire Police's 'Operation Oasis' began investigating the pair in 2017 and spoke to five sex workers on Bower Road in Harrogate. On the third visit in December 17, North Yorkshire Police said it 'became clear that a brothel was being operated' from the flat. Officers said that another woman was facilitating the travel of the workers to the UK and that 'she was involved in the management of their activities'. Yorkshire Live reports that De Souza rented the flat and then created, posted and even paid for adverts on an adult website under 'Escorts and Massages' alongside part of a Harrogate postcode. At the same time, she also paid for similar adverts in the South Wooton/PE30 area which related to another rented address on Nelson Street in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Investigators also found that De Souza and Derby were paying for flights from Lisbon, Amsterdam and Brussels to the UK and train and road travel from airports across the country to the flat in Harrogate, and another rented flat in Kings Lynn. Police said that in September 2017, the pair travelled to Manchester Airport to collect a woman who had travelled from Amsterdam. They then drove her to the flat in Harrogate and the next day an advert was posted to an adult website and the couple returned to Kings Lynn. The investigation showed that De Souza was controlling her activities and that between October 25 and 30, two more cash deposits of 500 and 600 were made into her bank account in Harrogate. Financial records showed that De Souza then paid 70.98 for an EasyJet flight for the same woman who flew from London Stansted to Amsterdam on October 29. A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Following this, three cash deposits were made in Harrogate to De Souza's bank account in varying amounts from 163 to over 1,000. "Neither De Souza or Derby were in Harrogate when these deposits were made." Officers from both North Yorkshire Police and Norfolk Constabulary visited the couple's home in Walpole St Andrew, Kings Lynn, and spoke to a woman they had previously seen at the flat in Harrogate. Another woman who was involved in prostitution was found at the address and De Souza was arrested. Derby was later arrested and a financial examination showed the couple had spent thousands of pounds setting up the business, but had received cash deposits of more than 40,000 during a six-month period. They were both found guilty at a trial at Leeds Crown Court of a number of offences including controlling prostitution for gain. A jury heard De Souza and Derby had exploited seven women between the ages of 26 and 60 from Brazil, Portugal and Spain and they were jailed for five years. They were also made the subject of slavery and trafficking orders that will last for 10 years after their release from prison. Detective Constable Leah Kitchen from North Yorkshire Police's Organised Crime Unit said: "De Souza claimed throughout the investigation that she was just helping friends of hers who were working as prostitutes, while Derby repeatedly told the police that he was unaware of what was going on. "The truth of the matter is that they, together, were operating an illegal business involving human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain. "This is an important case as it is a victimless prosecution for a human trafficking and controlling prostitution investigation, which is unusual and more difficult to progress to court. "I'm very proud that North Yorkshire Police, with assistance from Norfolk Constabulary, have rooted out this activity and brought the offenders to justice." De Souza was convicted under the Sexual Offences Act of eight offences of controlling prostitution for gain, along with seven offences under the Modern Slavery Act for arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation. Derby was found guilty of two charges in relation to controlling prostitution for gain and arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

Graham Manicom has received a four-year sentence. John Bancroft's brother, Graham Manicom, was also found to have met the victims for sex in a hotel room on two occasions. The 62-year-old, also from Essex, pleaded guilty to two counts of paying for the sexual services of a child and was handed a four-year sentence. The two men came to the attention of police after one of the victim's sisters grew suspicious of someone she was speaking to online and reported it.

Bancroft used apps such as MyLol to make fake accounts and offer "sugar daddy" arrangements. His brother, Graham Manicom, was also found to have met the victims for sex on two occasions. A man has been jailed for 25 years after being found guilty of using dating apps and posing as a "sugar daddy" to sexually exploit seven teenagers. John Bancroft, from Essex, was found guilty of four counts of rape, meeting a child following sexual grooming, paying for the sexual services of a child, attempting, causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child, and attempting sexual communication with a child. During a seven-week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, he was found to have used apps such as MyLol to target vulnerable girls in order to manipulate them. The 68-year-old used the sites to offer "sugar daddy" arrangements with teens aged between 13 and 18 from 2016 to 2017. Sadomasochistic acts, 100 messages a day and indecent images During the trial, the court heard how Bancroft would tell the victims he was much younger than his actual age and offer them money to participate in sexual acts with him. He offered to be their mentor, teacher, and father but, in fact, he was "satisfying his own twisted demands," Metropolitan Police said. The court was told Bancroft would send victims up to 100 WhatsApp messages a day when they did not reply and would drive them to remote areas for sex. As a result of the persistent messages, some of the victims met Bancroft and in return for food, money, or gifts, were expected to pander to his demands, including group sex and sadomasochistic acts. He also took indecent images of the girls and shared them on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Prior to the trial, Bancroft pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm against a child during sexual activity and 14 counts of taking, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children. In the second week of the trial, he pleaded guilty to a further 15 offences including paying for the sexual services of a child, causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child and attempted sexual communication with a child. 'A serious risk to vulnerable women and girls' The brothers were described by police as "sick and twisted" and as posing a "serious risk to vulnerable women and children." Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is the Met's lead responsible officer for exploitation, said: "I am glad they will be behind bars for a significant period of time."

Nathan Ali, who believed she was older, took the child to the student house where his ex lived and she found them in bed A rapist said he had sex with a 12-year-old girl he met in McDonald's to make his girlfriend jealous. Nathan Ali took his victim from a Newcastle branch of the fast food outlet to a student house, where his ex girlfriend lived. He then had sex with her while the occupants were out. A court heard his former partner and her flatmate returned home, saw them in bed and contacted the police after realising she was a child. Stephen Littlewood, prosecuting, told Newcastle Crown Court : "They discovered the defendant, naked in bed, along with the victim, who was wearing a top but no underwear. "They formed the opinion she was a child aged around 14 or 15. "He had no right to be in the property." The court heard Ali and the schoolgirl had got into a conversation about Snapchat in McDonald's, which led to them going to what she thought was his home. Mr Littlewood said Ali had gone into the student house, in Newcastle, about three to four times, without permission, after the breakdown of his relationship with one of the residents. Ali, 22, of Bridant Road, London, admitted rape of a child under 13 on the basis the victim had told him she was 17 when they started chatting. Judge Robert Adams sentenced him to four-and-a-half years behind bars with a one year extended licence period. The judge said although Ali may have been told the girl was 17, the two women at the student house believed her to be 14 or 15 and said although exact age is difficult to determine from sight alone, she looked "young". Judge Adams told Ali: "You say your intention was to make your ex partner jealous. "She was one of the people who found you in her flat." The judge added: "The two females appear to have immediately formed the view she was a child." Ali must sign the sex offenders register for life, abide by a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and was given a restraining order to keep him away from his ex for five years. The court heard Ali, who was 21 at the time, has never been in trouble before and is an "intelligent man". Paul Cross, defending, said: "This was a young man thinking he was having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old, who was willing to have sexual intercourse with him." Mr Cross said the victim did not look as young as her true age.

A house guest crept into a sleeping student's room at night and raped her in her own bed.

The victim had earlier been out partying in Leicester city centre with her housemates, who invited Mauro Eric Catamo De Oliveira and his friend back to their nearby home for more drinks.

The victim left the group socialising in the communal living area and went to her bedroom alone, where she fell into a drunken slumber - only to be awoken in horrendous circumstances.

Richard Thatcher, prosecuting, said she was shocked and terrified to be awoken by the defendant sexually touching her in bed, which culminated in rape, in the early hours of Wednesday September 28, 2016.

Catamo De Oliveira, 30, of no fixed address, fled the country to his homeland Portugal after being charged and was only recently extradited to the UK to face trial at Leicester Crown Court.

A jury convicted him of sexual assault and rape, which he denied, claiming the victim consented - but he admitted breaching his bail by going on the run.

Passing sentence, Judge Philip Head said: "The complainant and her housemates, all students in this city, went for a night out and in the early hours they met you and your friend in a bar and invited you both back to their flat.

"Whatever might have been intended by the other women or your friend, the complainant had no sexual interest in you.

"She then went to her room and fell deeply asleep and would have been affected by a substantial amount of drink she'd earlier consumed.

"The general understanding was you'd sleep on the sofa in the communal living room.

"You made your way uninvited into her bedroom."

The judge said the victim awoke to find an apparent stranger laying behind her in bed.

The judge described her as being "bewildered and terrified" as the defendant proceeded to have unprotected sex with her, despite her resistance.

The university student managed to escape from the bed and locked herself in the bathroom, where she messaged a friend for help.

The defendant made off.

Judge Head said: "She was absolutely distraught and crying hysterically and was unable to speak for some time."

In her confusion, she was convinced it was someone else that had got into the flat and later said the defendant hadn't seemed 'the type' to behave in that way.

The judge said: "When arrested, you said she was an active and consenting participant until she suddenly changed her mind.

"When you gave evidence, you said she answered your knock on her door and claimed she was completely naked."

The judge said that Catamo De Oliveira was "arrogant" and "convinced of his own sexual charms".

He added: "The jury concluded you decided to get sexual relief at her expense.

"She was certainly asleep when you went into her bedroom.

"She hadn't given you the slightest indication or any encouragement."

The judge added: "You remained in this country for several months, until you were charged and then fled, returning to Portugal.

"A European arrested warrant was issued and you made it clear you weren't prepared to return to the UK voluntarily.

"The pandemic may have contributed to the delay, but if you'd agreed to return your trial would have happened well before the Covid-19 outbreak.

"Your attempt to evade justice meant your victim has had this dreadful experience unresolved for many years and it's been reawakened when she was just beginning to get on with her life."

James Varley, mitigating before sentence, said: "He's a man with no previous convictions.

"There's little I can say about the facts.

"He was 25 at the time.

"He went out at night and maybe drank too much and ended up in a flat with a bunch of other people - and we know what happened.

"He spent 120 days [in custody] awaiting extradition that should count towards his sentence."

Catamo De Oliveira was jailed for a total of seven years and two months.

A rapist who carried his victim to a secluded spot before attacking her and telling her he was HIV positive has been jailed for life. The woman - then aged 24 - was walking to get a taxi home in Leeds city centre when she was targeted by Austin Osayande in August 2015. Police released CCTV footage after the attack, but he was not caught until he assaulted another woman last year. He was jailed for life at Leeds Crown Court with a minimum term of 16 years. Osayande, who is now 40, of Sissons Road, Leeds, had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and one count of rape. Sentencing him, the judge said he was a "sexual predator" and a danger to women. The rape victim, who spoke directly to Osayande during his appearance at court, said the attack had led her to "drinking, self-harm and suicide attempts". She added that what Osayande had told her after the rape, when he "laughed and said he was HIV positive was mentally and physically harrowing". She continued: "I have endured so much pain over the years that I will never overcome the torture you put me through. No matter how much therapy I have, it will never fully take it away. "You had intentions that night to ruin someone's life and that life was mine." Prosecuting, Christine Egerton said the woman recalled just wanting "to get home to her own bed" when Osayande approached her as she walked for a taxi along Kirkgate in the early hours of 14 August 2015. He picked her up in his arms and carried her to a secluded doorway in nearby Mark Lane where he put her into a "physical lock" and raped her, the court heard. She screamed for him to "get off", but he replied it "wouldn't take long". Afterwards, he let go of her and "laughed and told her he was HIV positive", the court was told. DNA was recovered as part of the investigation, but the rape remained unsolved for more than six years until Osayande sexually assaulted another woman in her own home. On that occasion, he was working as a Hermes driver and knew the woman because of deliveries he had made to her house. Ms Egerton said on the day of the attack, 10 September 2021, Osayande had delivered a parcel to her and said he was going to "come and knock on her door for a coffee later".

'Emotional wreck'

He did return and the pair chatted for a while before he sexually assaulted her, the court was told. Ms Egerton said the victim tried to push Osayande off, "but he was bigger than her and it was not possible". Police later linked him to the 2015 attack through his DNA. A statement from the second victim said she had been left an "emotional wreck" by the ordeal. She said: "I am not sure I will be able to be emotional or physical with anyone ever again, and most of all I hate myself for making a stupid choice." Mitigating, Robert Mochrie said Osayande "does wish to express his genuine remorse for both sets of offending". He told the court: "There is no explanation for what he has done, but he accepts that what he has done is very, very wrong indeed." Sentencing him, Judge Guy Kearl QC, Recorder of Leeds, told Osayande: "You are a danger to women, whether known to you or strangers in situations where you can get them alone and then force yourself on them. "This danger has continued for at least six years. There is no reason to think it will not continue." The judge said Osayande would serve at least nine years and six months before he was eligible for parole and would be on licence for the rest of his life. Speaking afterwards, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Pat Twiggs said Osayande was "the absolute embodiment of a dangerous sexual predator". He said his "appalling actions" had caused trauma to his victims and it was "likely" there were other victims who he urged to contact police.

A MAN who groomed school girls online using a fake profile to masquerade as a teenager is now behind bars. Kevin Whittaker, of Ajax Avenue, Orford, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison at Chester Crown Court on Thursday. The court heard how the 32-year-old used the social networking site Facebook to target vulnerable girls aged between 13 and 15 years. He created a fake Facebook profile and pretended to be a 19-year-old keeping his true identity a secret from his victims. One of the victims parents discovered the inappropriate messages between Whittaker and the victim and alerted police. Officers carried out an extensive investigation into the allegation and were able to identify Whittaker as the suspect in the case. Two further victims were also identified during the course of the enquiries. Whittaker was arrested and later convicted of causing a child under 13 to watch a sexual act, causing a female to engage in sexual activity without consent and causing a child under 13 to watch a sexual act. Chief Inspector Pete Shaw welcomed the sentencing of Whittaker and vowed to continue to target those who prey on the vulnerable and bring them to justice. He said: Cheshire Police will continue to investigate reports of abuse and carry out operations to tackle those who seek to take advantage of young and vulnerable children, working together with the local authority and other agencies to keep children safe. Whittaker is a predator - he actively approached his victims online and was very direct with his intentions. "It is shocking for any parent to find their children have been targeted in such a way and Im sure the families affected will be relieved to find he has been imprisoned.

A hidden camera pervert who filmed people on the toilet at Creamfields was caught after a woman spotted his phone peeping over her cubicle door in a pub.

Andrew Smith also filmed teenage girls getting changed at a theatre as well as up schoolgirls' skirts.

However the 39-year-old of Pickerings Close, Runcorn, was caught after a woman using a pub toilet spotted his hand holding a phone above her and she ran out and kicked in his cubicle door to confront him.

Smith fled but was stopped by door staff and then arrested.

Police uncovered a shocking collection of secretly-filmed videos of adults and young girls stored on Smiths digital devices.

Smith was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, having pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism in relation to his adult victims, and one count each to possessing and making Category C indecent images of children - the latter two counts relating to the same eight covertly-captured clips of girls backstage at Haltons flagship culture venue The Brindley Theatre and upskirt videos of schoolgirls.

Jayne Morris, prosecuting, told how Smith provided a basis of plea in which he admitted obtaining sexual gratification from secretly filming people, mainly adult females and female children, then saving these images and viewing them.

She said Smith was arrested after two female customers in the toilets at The Bank Chambers pub, also known as Chambers, in Runcorn looked up at 4am one night in 2018 and spotted a hand holding a mobile phone over the side of the toilet cubicle, while one of them was using the toilet.

She ran out of the stall and kicked open the neighbouring cubicle door, where she caught Smith - who was stood on the toilet seat with his mobile telephone in his hand.

Smith fled but door staff stopped him and police were called and arrested him.

A search at the scene and his home address resulted in devices including a mini-camera in his wallet which he had with him, a Toshiba camera, a laptop, and a Samsung phone being examined.

This revealed 20 video clips of adults being filmed without their knowledge: 16 of which featured men and women using the toilets at Creamfields - where Smith was working and had set up a covert camera; three from The Bank Chambers; and one from The Brindley theatre.

Officers from Cheshire police also discovered four video clips of teenage girls getting changed backstage at Haltons flagship culture venue The Brindley Theatre, where he had worked his way up in lighting and production and managed to get a roof box on the side of the stage where he could take these images - that is in relation to the children in various states of undress", and four upskirt clips of schoolgirls.

Smith further divulged that he used a camera hidden in a duffle bag that was positioned when he was outside the school so he could film up schoolgirls' skirts.

His younger victims were aged 13 to 16 years.

All of the footage, except the final clip in The Bank Chambers when he was caught in the act, had been recorded covertly via secret cameras and without his victims knowledge.

Smith gave no comment answers during his two initial interviews with the police but made full admissions on February 26 this year

He pleaded guilty to voyeurism and one count each to possessing and making indecent images of children relating to the same eight videos at the first opportunity.

Andrew McInnes, defending, said his client had shown genuine remorse, admitted he had a problem and had sought help via his general practitioner and The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, which is a charity that works to divert men from looking at indecent images of children.

He said: The pre-sentence report notes the defendant has taken significant steps to deal with what he knows is a significant issue.

He added Smith had not offended since 2018, and had a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

Mr McInnes urged the judge to consider a suspended sentence, arguing Smith had no previous convictions and clearly had a good work ethic, although Miss Morris noted that Smiths sex offender management officer has been caused some concern upon discovered Smith had recently been working at Wetherspoon in Warrington.

She added he no longer works there.

Judge Simon Berkson, presiding, refused Smith bail when the court adjourned for lunch until the afternoon, when he jailed Smith for two years in prison, comprising consecutive sentences of eight and 16 months, to be served immediately.

He said Smith was ashamed of what you have done and show clear remorse but that appropriate punishment can only be achieved by a period of immediate imprisonment.

During his summing-up, Judge Berkson said: Your arrest led to a search.

In your house, police discovered computer equipment and other equipment including a digital camera which was to reveal the terrible secret you had been hiding - you enjoyed taking and watching these videos.

In count one, some were from the Creamfields festival at Daresbury outside Warrington where you had set up a camera in the toilets.

As well as the invasion of privacy of those using these toilets, you were employed at Creamfields and you were in breach of trust.

Nobody knew you were filming in these toilets.

At the end of the festival you took away this equipment and would view whatever you had taken for your own pleasure.

One you have was from the changing room at The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn where you worked in a technical capacity.

You had set up a camera - again a gross breach of privacy, a gross breach of trust.

He added: You filmed teenage girls dressing and undressing at the theatre Ive referred to.

Their parents would drop them off for a (type of) competition or the like.

They assumed they would be safe at a theatre where they would no doubt be sitting in the stalls to watch their children perform.

You had taken secret video, which you took home for your own pleasure.

They werent safe, they were being filmed by you so you could watch them at a later date.

The judge also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order with Smith to sign the sex offenders register for the same length of time.

A destruction order was made for any devices implicated in the case.

Smith looked to the public gallery with tears in his eyes and smiled to relatives as he was led down to the cells.

A paedophile who considered himself 'untouchable' has finally been jailed more than 50 years after he began preying on young boys.

Terrence Ryan, now 77, sexually assaulted a young boy in the early 1960s and would go on to abuse three more children until the late 2000s.

The pensioner, from Warrington, came to the attention of police after one of his victims bravely came forward to Northumbria Police, sparking an investigation by the forces safeguarding unit.

Ryan, from the Woolston area of the town, was arrested and denied the allegations.

But he later pleaded guilty to 14 counts of historical child sexual abuse, including sexual touching, engaging in sexual activity with a child, inciting sexual activity with a child and oral rape.

Last Friday, Ryan, of Austral Avenue, Warrington, was jailed for 14 years and eight months at Newcastle Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Burns said of the case: "This man thought he was untouchable and continued to abuse young boys for more than 50 years.

My heart goes out to the brave victims who have suffered in silence for so long, and I hope the conviction of Ryan gives them all a sense of solace and closure.

This also sends a really strong message that it is never too late to report sexual abuse to police.

Some of these offences were committed in the early 1960s, yet we have still been able to seek justice for the victims.

An man who secretly filmed people using the toilet has been jailed for 32 months.

Matthew Thomas, 39, from Meadowbank Drive in Ellesmere Port was sentenced on Friday after appearing in Chester Crown Court.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to voyeurism, recording images of children, three counts of taking indecent images of children, three counts of making indecent images and two counts of possession of extreme pornography.

Thomas was caught after a woman using a toilet at an unnamed business noticed a bright light coming from a jacket hung up in her cubicle in September 2020.

After taking a closer look, she realised there was a hole in the pocket of the jacket with a camera lens sitting up against the hole and contacted people.

Thomas was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and an investigation launched by Cheshire Police.

Police seized three mobile phones, an iPad, laptop and other computer equipment after Thomas' arrest and discovered over 100 videos "of a sexual nature" dating as far back as 2008, including videos depicting voyeurism and up skirting.

Officers also found 28 indecent images of children and two further videos depicting extreme pornography.

Thomas was sentenced last week to 32 months in prison, where he was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and received a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.

After his sentencing, Ellesmere Port local policing unit DC Lois Elvey paid tribute to the "extraordinary courage and strength of his victims."

DC Elvey said: What Thomas did was inexcusable he secretly recorded his victims in order to fulfil his own sexual gratification.

It was only by chance that his crimes were uncovered when one of his victims discovered a camera hidden in the pocket of a jacket.

When we examined his electronic devices we discovered 67 separate videos of people using the toilet, which involved 17 separate victims, and some were under the age of 18 when the footage was filmed.

We also found examples of upskirting which Thomas had filmed while on a day out.

Thankfully, the strength of the evidence against him was so strong that he was left with no option but to plead guilty to all of the charges against him and he is now facing the consequences of his actions.

I hope that the sentence handed to Thomas today will provide reassurance to his victims, who have shown an extraordinary amount of courage and strength throughout the course of the investigation, and allow them to move forward with their lives.

A sexual predator begged for forgiveness after his victim told him: "You are a danger to society and deserve to be in cells."

Paul Dutton, 61, sexually abused a teenage boy, leaving the vulnerable child "a broken person" with anxiety and depression.

He hung his head in shame when faced by the brave victim in court, sitting with his devastated mum in the area normally reserved for a jury.

After crying his way through the boy's heartbreaking victim statement, the pervert had the gall to say he was "sorry" as he was sent down.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Dutton, of Cotswold Grove, St Helens, befriended the boy by offering him advice and support.

Karl Scholz, prosecuting, said one day they talked about masturbation and Dutton told his victim it was normal, before the boy later asked if they could do it together, which Dutton agreed to, after initially saying no.

The court heard they also performed a sex act on each other and afterwards spoke of their regret and said it would never happen again, but it did, after which they again spoke of regretting it.

Mr Scholz said on another occasion Dutton showed the boy a sexual position and they both performed a sex act on each other. On a further occasion Dutton put his penis between the boys buttocks.

The abuse stopped after Dutton suggested they didn't see each other so they would stop thinking about each other.

It only came to light when the boy confided in a young friend about what had happened, who contacted the police.

Mr Scholz said the boy's mum believed Dutton had "destroyed" her son's childhood by "taking advantage of him".

Dutton, gave two no comment interviews to police, but later admitted three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

Mr Scholz read out a victim personal statement written by the boy, who told his abuser: "It's such a serious crime what you have done to me."

The boy said his mental health deteriorated and said: "I'm just a broken person. Every day is darkness. I can't express to everyone in this room how I feel. You have destroyed my life."

He said Dutton hadn't had the "guts" to tell anyone what happened, adding: "You are just a coward."

The boy said: "All I can see is darkness. No matter how much therapy I have, it doesn't go away. I'm still in this state of mind."

The victim described how he would sit thinking about "dying" and suffered depression and anxiety.

Dutton cried in the dock as the statement concluded with the boy saying: "I want you to know every day has been grey and dark for me.

"There is not a day that goes by when I don't have messed up thoughts."

He added: "You are a danger to society and deserve to be in cells."

Paul Wood, defending, accepted the abuse amounted to a "course of conduct" but said it was over a "relatively modest period of time".

He said: "There appears to be a measure of it voluntarily stopping between the parties."

Mr Wood said letters and references showed Dutton was of previous "positive good character", with no criminal record, and described as "caring" and "nervous".

He said Dutton had an "isolated life", was "sexually inexperienced" and suffered abuse as a child himself, which had led to self-harm and depression.

Mr Wood said: "He is properly categorised as being a nervous individual who lacks confidence."

The lawyer added that Dutton had found the criminal proceedings so stressful that he had suffered a stroke.

The boy's mum started sobbing as Judge Mark Brown passed sentence.

The judge said there was a "very significant disparity" in age between Dutton and the "somewhat lonely and isolated" boy he befriended.

He said: "You took advantage of that friendship by sexually abusing him."

The judge said after the abuse, the teen spoke of how they both regretted what had happened.

But he told Dutton: "You were regretting what had taken place, but it didn't stop you."

Judge Brown said the victim described how Dutton destroyed his childhood and said: "You took advantage of him. You must have appreciated he was a lonely and somewhat vulnerable individual."

The judge jailed Dutton for three years and told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register and comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely. He also imposed a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim.

Dutton said "see ya" to a woman sitting in the public gallery, who waved back at him as he was escorted away by a dock officer, then turned to the boy and his family.

He said: "I'm sorry. I know we will never talk... I'm sorry."

A paedophile tax officer kept a sickening collection of child sex abuse images for three years.

John Lee had a total of 4,781 indecent images of children, 134 of which were videos of children as young as two being raped.

The 43-year-old, who worked for HMRC for 20 years before being sacked yesterday, also shared 14 child sex abuse images on WhatsApp and Kik Messenger with a fellow paedophile.

He told him he wanted to have sex with an 11-year-old girl he knew, and even sent him a picture of her.

Peter Hussey, prosecuting at Liverpool Crown Court, said: "All charges arose from an investigation by Merseyside Police following the execution of a warrant at his address in May last year, when police had reason to believe he had been downloading indecent photographs of children from the internet."

Mr Hussey said the images were discovered after a laptop and a phone were seized.

Lee kept a total of 4,781 indecent images of children, of which 1,041 were images of child rape.

Among his vile collection were 1,006 Category B images and 2,734 Category C images.

The court heard 172 of the images were videos, which included 134 videos of child rape.

Lee distributed 14 images, of which seven were videos on WhatsApp and Kik Messenger.

Mr Hussey said he had shared images with a user called 'Incestloverboy' and in the discussion Lee sent a picture of an 11-year-old girl he knew, who was fully clothed, and said he wanted to have sex with her.

Lee, of Dalemeadow Road, Knotty Ash, admitted three counts of downloading, one count of possessing and one count of distributing indecent images of children between July 25, 2017 and May 21, 2020.

David Birrell, defending, asked the judge to consider letters from Lee's family and said a report from a psychosexual therapist states it "appears he had certain mental health issues" as a result of "work related stress" and depression.

Mr Birrell said Lee, who has no previous convictions, is "full of remorse and shame" as well as "self loathing".

He said Lee was "hardworking" and had been employed with the civil service for 20 years during which he "rose through the ranks" and had a "distinguished career which came to an end yesterday when he was dismissed from employment".

The court heard his wife of 19 years was "standing by him" and Mr Birrell added Lee has two sons.

Mr Birrell said: "They know about this and he continues to see them through supervised contact."

He said Lee's risk of offending according to a pre sentence report was low and said after the offences came to light he contacted a helpline, completed a 10-week programme with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and paid for therapy.

Mr Birrell said he had also sought medical help for mental health issues and is now taking anti-depressants.

He asked the judge to consider the impact of the pandemic on prisoners and said there has been a "traumatic effect" on Lee's sons.

The judge, Recorder Ian Unsworth, QC, said: "Whilst the images of children might have been something you fantasised about and collected in the early hours of the morning, each and every one is a real person.

"Each and every one is a victim, many of whom will have little consciousness of the horrors that have befallen them before they have even begun to walk or even begun to talk."

The judge said there was a number of "significant" aggravating features including the vulnerability of the children and the fact the images were distributed.

The judge also noted the "significant" mitigation including his lack of previous convictions and remorse.

Lee was jailed for 32 months and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

He must also adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same period of time.

A paedophile ex-vicar once caught with a shoebox full of kid's clothes is back in jail for the third time after watching children as young as five being raped.

Paul Battersby, 72, formerly of Liverpool, scoured the internet for the sick material and downloaded more than 800 indecent images, all while he was under a court order designed to curb his online activity.

The twice-married former Church of England clergyman, who worked for the church for 31 years, built up a sordid collection of 832 images, some of which included the rape of children aged between five and 10, York Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Lucy Brown said some of the images featured children as young as two.

Battersby, who was a chemistry teacher in Liverpool before he took the cloth and once worked with Amnesty International, also viewed images of bestiality and tried to hide his crimes using special software.

But he was caught out for the fourth time in 13 years when police searched his new home in Skipton, North Yorkshire, in October last year.

Officers seized his computer equipment including a laptop, on which they found the offending material.

Battersby - formerly of Birkenhead, and Liverpool City Centre - was arrested and charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing extreme pornography including videos, breaching a sexual-harm prevention order and a further count of possessing 205 prohibited or cartoon images of children.

He admitted all charges and appeared for sentence via video link on Tuesday after being remanded in custody.

In 2008, Battersby - a former national youth officer with the Church of England who at the time was vicar of St Ambrose Church in Leyland - received a suspended prison sentence at Preston Crown Court for possessing very disturbing images of children after being turned in by his wife.

In 2010, he was jailed again after police found 160 obscene images of children on his laptop which had been used to organise missions for the Church of England.

Battersby - said to have "fantasies about pre-pubescent girls"- was to serve more jail time for similar offences including in 2017 when he was jailed for 20 months at Liverpool Crown Court for downloading 1,730 indecent images of children and extreme animal pornography.

At the time of those offences, Battersby was living in a luxury flat, funded by the Church of England, in Liverpools Beetham Tower, where police also found a shoebox full of childrens clothing.

Among the sick files found on his computer equipment was a horrifying movie of a girl being bound and raped.

Battersby had also written a twisted child-sex-abuse fantasy starring himself.

After being released from that prison sentence, Battersby - who was already estranged from his two ex-wives and ostracised by his family and the Church of England - moved to Skipton where he lived alone.

The father-of-two, described as highly intelligent, was on the sex offenders register and subject to a court order designed to limit his internet activity but could not stop himself re-offending.

The protection officers who were monitoring his online activity made an impromptu visit to his home and found hundreds of vile images on his laptop, as well as cleaning software and a special browser.

Helen Chapman, defending Battersby, said the ex-ministers complicated and deeply embedded behaviour had cost him two marriages and he had no contact whatsoever with his second family.

Judge Simon Hickey told Battersby that his deliberate and calculated use of the wiping and browsing software and the vast number of images shed light on the ex-vicars determination to pursue your perversion in looking up these images.

Judge Hickey said: You say you want to change I find that difficult to accept given your deeply embedded behaviour and your deliberate flouting of court orders."

The judge said he regarded Battersby as a danger to children who presented a significant risk of committing similar crimes in the future.

Battersby was jailed for four years with an extended three year licence period upon his eventual release from custody.

He was also ordered to sign on the sex-offenders register for life and made subject to a new sexual-harm prevention order, which will also run for an indefinite period.

A man forced his way into a woman's home and sexually assaulted her before laughing afterwards.

Lewis Trueman pretended to be looking for someone when he knocked on his victim's kitchen door in Wirral.

But the 33-year-old was really hoping his victim would have sex with him and refused to take no for an answer.

A judge today said Trueman tried to force his tongue into her mouth and then his hand down her underwear.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, heard a knock at her back door one evening.

She saw it was Trueman and opened the door halfway to see what he wanted, when he asked after a mutual acquaintance.

Frank Dillon, prosecuting, said Trueman pushed the door open, forced his way in and tried to kiss the "shocked" victim.

She pushed him away and he again tried to kiss her, putting his hands around her waist, but she told him to get out.

The court heard Trueman responded: "Your fella is cheating on you, so why can't you do it with me?"

Mr Dillon said: "He tried to kiss her again and tried to force his tongue into her mouth.

"He then turned her around so that her back was against his front and tried to put one of his hands down the front of her clothes, inside her clothing.

"He only managed to get his hand around her waistband area before she pushed him away and shouted at him to leave, which he eventually did.

"However, he then said to her that he would return the following day and tell her partner that she had slept with him."

Trueman got on a bike and rode off, before the woman told a neighbour she had been sexually assaulted, and they called the police.

The victim was left with soreness in her arms, from when she had tried to get free.

Trueman was arrested and claimed he went to her home to ask if she had seen someone, before they hugged and he kissed her on the cheek.

He denied that anything happened that he would describe as sexual, until he was asked if his DNA would be on her clothing.

The court heard Trueman then admitted he had put his hand down the front of the woman's trousers, but not her underwear.

Mr Dillon said: "He said he had consumed six cans of Stella prior to the incident. It is right to say he made derogatory remarks about the victim's physical appearance."

Trueman, of Old Wood, Pensby, denied any wrongdoing and his victim was cross-examined on video ahead of a trial, before he admitted sexual assault.

In a victim personal statement, the woman said she remembered telling Trueman to stop and felt really frightened.

She described previously being happy in the home but afterwards felt unsafe and scared.

Mr Dillon said she separated from her boyfriend, "who couldn't deal with the facts of what happened to her", suffered panic attacks, felt suicidal and experienced financial difficulties as a result of moving home.

The court heard she said: "He's taken everything I had."

Trueman has 19 previous convictions for 49 offences, mainly for vehicle theft, and was last convicted in 2012 of producing cannabis.

Simon Mintz, defending, said a pre-sentence report set out Trueman's "disadvantaged start in life", which included going into care at the age of 12 in a residential school in Cumbria.

He said Trueman's mum "had her own demons", his client suffered from "severe homesickness", and later as an adult lost custody of his own children "no doubt because of the chaotic lifestyle he led".

Mr Mintz said: "One of the results of this disadvantage - this isn't an excuse and isn't put forward as one - is he seems to have missed out on any enlightenment so far as the respect that's due to women and their autonomy."

He added: "The author of the pre-sentence report encapsulates his frame of mind very well when she says he accepts responsibility for this offence, but lacks insight into the consequences of his behaviour.

"She describes his distorted thinking in relation to women, using the phrase which applies in this case of male privilege."

Mr Mintz said the unemployed ex-factory worker, who lives alone with his girlfriend, had stayed out of trouble since.

Judge Gary Woodhall said Trueman pretended he was looking for someone before he forced his way into the home, attempted to kiss the woman and tried to put one of his hands "inside her underwear", but got no further than inside her waistband.

He said Trueman eventually left "laughing", but not before he threatened to lie to her boyfriend that they had slept together.

The judge said the woman moved property because "she couldn't eradicate the memories of what you had done to her in her home".

He said: "She says what you did to her is with her all the time and you have ruined her life.

"You must understand that violating someone in the intimate way you did inside their home causes long lasting damage and harm."

The judge said in a pre-sentence report Trueman made denials and "disparaging remarks" about his victim, but "admitted finally when you went to that property you were hoping to have sex with her".

He said: "You are and were only focused on your own needs and desires."

Judge Woodhall jailed Trueman for two and a half years, told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and made a five-year restraining order.

A pervert who secretly filmed victims showering kept 14 devices a secret from police.

Stanley Harris was previously jailed after installing a hidden camera in his bathroom and spying on a child, a young woman and their mum.

The 72-year-old's seedy videos were discovered when he took his laptop to a computer repair shop in Bebington in 2016.

After being asked to transfer data, a technician spotted an indecent video of a child having a shower and police later found one category A image and two category C images.

Harris was locked up for 13 months and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), banning him from deleting his internet history and meaning he has to register any devices that can connect to the internet with police.

But Harris was hauled back to court today after police discovered 14 secret devices during a routine visit to his home on June 16 this year.

Angela Blackmore, prosecuting at Wirral Magistrates' Court, said when he was asked about any devices that could connect to the internet he handed over a mobile phone, which only had internet history available for that day.

Ms Blackmore said: "Officers asked if he had deleted the internet history and he indicated he had."

He was asked if he had any other devices, to which he replied "no", but officers saw a laptop and when asked again Harris "produced a second mobile phone".

Harris was arrested and a search of his home revealed he kept a total of 14 unregistered devices.

Harris has no other previous convictions, other than that in 2017 when he admitted two counts of downloading, one of taking and one of possessing indecent images of children, and voyeurism.

Liverpool Crown Court heard he had kept a 12-minute video of a girl having a shower and a 15-minute video of a young woman having a shower, while another adult female undressed.

Catherine Higham, defending today, said Harris has pleaded guilty to the breaches at the earliest opportunity.

She said custody would have a "detrimental impact" on Harris due to his age and health problems, which include arthritis.

Ms Higham said there had been "four years of compliance" and stressed he was not in possession of other indecent images.

Harris, of Devonshire Road, Oxton, admitted two counts of breaching the SHPO on June 16 this year.

Chair Magistrate Chamberlain, sentencing, said: "Mr Harris we believe these offences warrant an immediate custodial sentence and we believe this because you deliberately and knowingly breached your Sexual Harm Prevention Order by deleting internet history prior to the day in question and had in your possession 14 unregistered devices."

Harris was jailed for 18 weeks and ordered to pay a 128 victim surcharge.

The devices were forfeited and destroyed.
