Registered sex offender jailed after being found with indecent images.
Registered sex offender jailed after being found with indecent images.
Derby Road, Wingerworth, Chesterfield, S42
A registered sex offender has been jailed after being found in possession of indecent images of children.
Jason McCall, a convicted paedophile, is subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention order which poses prohibitions on what the 49-year-old is allowed to do.
This includes the use or possession of any electronic device with internet access, without notifying police within three days, and making any such device immediately available upon request for examination by officers.
Detectives made an unannounced visit to McCallâs address on 12 November.
At first it appeared that he wasnât at home, so an officer called his mobile.
McCall answered and claimed he was miles away from home. Officers then spoke to staff at the address, who advised them McCall was at home and accompanied them to his door â which he answered.
McCall was then asked to hand over all internet enabled devices, which he did but claimed he couldnât find his phone. An officer then called the phone, which began ringing, and McCall eventually produced it from his trouser pocket.
When handing the device over he told officers âThere is stuff on thereâ.
McCall was arrested but refused to be interviewed by officers. His devices were found to contain several indecent images of children.
He was charged and remanded to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on 13 November, where he admitted making two category A images, one category B image, and two category C images.
McCall, of Derby Road, Wingerworth, was then remanded into prison custody ahead of a sentencing hearing at Derby Crown Court on 12 December.
He was handed a three-year jail term by a judge.
Guilty of sexually assaulting a woman.
No fixed address.
A man has been sentenced after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in Brighton.
James Scott, 45, approached a woman who was not known to him in the St Jamesâs Street area.
Witnesses then saw him sexually assault the vulnerable victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
She received support from specially-trained officers after she was taken to hospital following the incident.
Scott, of no fixed address, stood trial at Lewes Crown Court in December and was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault.
On 5 December he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the offences.
The court was told how the incident happened at about 11am on June 7 this year.
Witnesses said the victim, a woman in her 20s, was in a vulnerable position.
Scott was seen grabbing the woman and trying to stand her up before giving her alcohol.
He sexually assaulted her while she was not fully conscious and without her consent, and when confronted by witnesses he claimed the victim was his girlfriend.
But the two had not previously met.
Speaking after the case, Detective Inspector Kirstie Neal said:
âThis was a distressing incident on a vulnerable victim that was witnessed in full view of witnesses.
âFirst of all I would like to thank the victim for her support for our investigation, we were determined to get justice in this case.
âI also want to thank all the witnesses who challenged Scott, supported the victim, and contacted the police to ensure swift action could be taken.
âWe take reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and we understand the concern that this case caused.
âSo we are pleased that a dangerous offender has received a custodial sentence and has been taken off our streets.
âWe encourage all victims of sexual assault to report their experience to us.â
Non-recent child sexual offences.
Heath End Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV10
A Nuneaton man has been jailed for 25 years after being found guilty of historical sexual offences including indecent assault and rape.
William Proctor abused his victim over an eight-year period from 1991 to 1999 when the boy was between six and 13.
After reporting the abuse online in 2023, an investigation began and the 75-year-old was arrested. He was subsequently charged with:
Proctor, of Heath End Road, denied any wrongdoing but was eventually found guilty by a jury of all offences at a trial earlier this year.
Appearing before Warwick Crown Court on Thursday (18 December), he was sentenced to 24 years in prison with an extended licence for one year in relation to the rape and buggery charges.
He was further sentenced to ten years, nine years and four years for the indecent assault offences, which will all be served concurrently.
Proctor was also given an indefinite restraining order and will be made to sign the Sex Offenderâs Register for life.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Jamie Russell, from our Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said:
âComing forward to disclose offences of this nature takes a huge amount of bravery. I want to thank the victim in this case for their strength and commitment throughout the course of the investigation.
âThe offences were a dreadful ordeal for a young child to have to go through when they should have been free to enjoy their childhood.
âBy speaking out, even after so many years, they have made sure that Proctor is behind bars where he canât hurt anyone else.
âI would like to stress that, as this case has shown, we take all reports of non-recent sexual abuse extremely seriously and we thoroughly investigate every report we receive, placing the victim's needs at the heart of the case, regardless of how long ago the offence occurred.
âI would encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault, or knows someone who has, to come forward and speak to use. We will listen to you, and we will investigate."
Attempting to groom a 13-year-old girl online.
Chichester Road, Portsmouth, City Of Portsmouth, PO2
A man has been jailed after attempting to groom a 13-year-old girl online.
On Monday 22 December, Brynley Hocking was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court to 3 years and 4 months in prison after pleading guilty to arranging and facilitating sexual activity with a child, attempting to form sexual communications and possession of indecent images of children.
Hocking, 45, of Chichester Road in Portsmouth, sought to groom a 13-year-old girl online and during the communication stated he wanted to meet the child for sex.
Unknown to him, he was actually communicating with an undercover officer.
On his arrest Hocking was found to be in possession of extreme pornographic material including bestiality and indecent images of children, some as young as two years of age.Â
As well as the imprisonment, Hocking will also be subject to the Sex Offenders Register for life.
A police spokesperson said:
"The fact remains there have been in this investigation numerous children whom have been seriously sexually abused, harmed, and exploited, in the indecent images that Hocking possessed.Â
"Online offending around indecent images of children is a crime, each image represents a child that has been abused. If you are a victim of online abuse, there is support out there for you."
Paedophile who ran prostitution racket from luxury apartment.
The Hayes Apartments, Cardiff, CF10
A Cardiff man who used his luxury city centre apartment as a base for young male prostitution which earned him tens of thousands of pounds has been jailed.
Dafydd Evans, of the Hayes Apartments, Cardiff, was jailed at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, December 22, after he was found guilty by a jury of controlling prostitution for gain, possessing indecent images of children, and acquiring illegal property, namely money.
He came under the radar of South Wales Policeâs Exploitation Team after a man from Turkey contacted the Modern Slavery Helpline. Evans had met the man on a website which aims to put people in touch with travellers looking for a place to stay. The whistleblower became suspicious and repulsed by Evans, from what he divulged during online conversations.
Critically to the police investigation which followed, Evans had told him he had a massage business in Cardiff city centre, which included a rough location on a map and the front door and foyer area of the Hayes Apartment he lived in.
Dafydd Evans was at home when South Wales Police officers conducted arrest enquiries on July 3, 2023. They found a massage bed in the corner of the living room, sex paraphernalia including condoms and lubricants, and boys underwear. Officers also recovered a card payment machine from the flat. Strewn over the bed were a number of mobile phones which were all seized and examined forensically.
Officers uncovered extensive evidence of criminality on those devices; Whatsapp accounts owned by Evans included messages he sent of children being abused. They also revealed he was offering sexual intercourse with young men who worked for him and that he was prepared to travel to other countries to meet clients.
His bank statements showed he potentially made as much as ÂŁ40k from his criminality.
Evans was initially released on bail with conditions which included not having anyone at his apartment but breached those conditions when an officer carried out bail checks. He went on the run from police but was arrested at a hotel a few days later and remanded in custody.
Following a trial on Friday, December 20, Dafydd Evans was found guilty of controlling prostitution for gain, acquiring criminal property - namely money, and two counts of possessing Category A and C indecent photographs of a child. On Monday, December 22, he was jailed for 45 months at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
Officer in the case, Detective Constable Robyn Allen, said:
âDafydd Evans is a calculated paedophile who made thousands of pounds operating his sordid enterprise from a luxury Cardiff City Centre apartment.
âHe preyed on vulnerable people and used them as sex slaves for his own financial gain and to satisfy his sick, depraved fantasies.
âWe have shared information we have uncovered during our investigation with international partners, including police forces across the world, so that anyone who is complicit in his activities also face arrest, and to ensure that any other victims get the help and support they need.â
Officers seized over ÂŁ40k from his bank accounts and are taking steps under the Proceeds of Crime Act to ensure he does not benefit financially from his criminality.
Inam Khan 37
Drove hundreds of miles to abuse children he groomed online.
Drove hundreds of miles to abuse children he groomed online.
Troon Crescent, Wellingborough, North Northamptonshire, NN8
A man has been sentenced following a series of serious sexual offences against children in both Sussex and Suffolk.
Inam Khan, 37, of Troon Crescent, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, spent time in online chat rooms and on Snapchat, targeting young children while lying about his own age to build and manipulate trust.
On 19 September, 2022, Khan travelled to Suffolk from his home to meet with a 14-year-old girl who he had spent time grooming online and through Snapchat.
Khan then took the victim to a nearby location, where he went on to rape her. A further attempted rape against the same victim was also reported to police.
Officers immediately began working to track Khan, and he was arrested on 1 October, 2022.
He was later charged with two counts of rape, and one of attempted rape.
In a similar style to his previous offending, Khan soon began work on grooming a 12-year-old girl in Sussex, while he pretended to be just 16-years-old.
He went on to ask her for explicit photographs, stating he needed them to prove that she was a girl.
In the early hours of 8 September, 2024, Khan made the long car journey to the 12-year-olds address and bombarded her with messages to pressure her into meeting him.
He went on to abduct her and sexually assault her.
Six days later, Khan drove to the area again and unsuccessfully attempted to meet the victim.
In total, it is estimated that Khan travelled around 600 miles during these two trips.
The offences were later reported to police, and Khan was quickly arrested on 25 November.
On 27 November, he was charged with assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, taking a child so as to remove her from a person having lawful control, engaging in sexual communications with a child, and with meeting a child following grooming.
At his hearing at Brighton Magistrates' Court later that same day, Khan was remanded into custody ahead of further hearings.
This year, on 23 June, Khanâs trial began at Hove Crown Court and lasted for nine days.
On 3 July, the jury returned verdicts of guilty on all counts regarding both the Sussex and Suffolk cases.
Khan was then remanded back into custody ahead of his sentencing on Monday, 22 December at Hove Crown Court, where he was jailed for 19 years, with three further years to be spent on licence.
Detective Sergeant, Matt Williamson, from Suffolk Police, said:Â
"Inam Khan is a dangerous predator, using social media to identify and then meet vulnerable females, whom he then subjected to sexual assaults.
"This investigation was a complex and lengthy process, which also involved working jointly with Sussex Constabulary who had identified another victim.
"Khanâs horrific offending has caused untold suffering to his victims, which will have a long-lasting impact, not only for them, but also for their families.
"I would like to commend them for the extraordinary courage they have demonstrated in reporting this to the police, the support that they and their families have given to the investigation and for the considerable patience they have shown.
"I hope that some measure of justice and reassurance can be found following todayâs outcome, not only to the victims and their loved ones, but also to other victims of sexual violence and those not yet ready to come forward.
"I would also like to thank DC Charlotte Blake, the officer in charge of the case. Her diligence and commitment to this investigation helped to ensure that the right outcome was reached for the victim.
"Targeting perpetrators of sexual assault and violence against women and girls is a priority for Suffolk Constabulary. We will not tolerate it and will continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and support victims of this type of criminality."
Detective Sergeant, Jamie Ashford, from Sussex Police, said:Â
"Our thoughts remain firmly with the victims and their families, whose courage in engaging with this investigation has been exceptional.
"The impact of Khanâs actions has been significant, and it is right that he is now facing the consequences of the harm he caused.
"This case highlights the very real dangers posed when children are approached online by individuals intent on grooming and sexual exploitation.
"Khan used digital platforms to manipulate trust, disguise his motives, and single out young people that he planned to harm.
"We encourage parents, carers and children to stay alert to the risks that can be present in these online spaces.
"Officers in Sussex worked swiftly to identify the risk Khan posed, and close collaboration with our colleagues in Suffolk was vital in ensuring that his pattern of predatory behaviour was fully uncovered.
"This outcome reflects the determination of both forces to protect vulnerable young people and to pursue offenders who seek to exploit them.
"We will continue to prioritise the safety of children within our communities, acting decisively whenever concerns are raised and doing everything we can to prevent predators from causing further harm."
Jonathan Stocks, Kimberly Jowle 48,38

Raped a sleeping woman at a caravan park with the encouragement of his girlfriend.
Lydgate Lane, Sheffield, S10
A man and woman have been jailed for a combined total of 14 years after a rape near Lincoln.
Jonathan Stocks and Kimberly Jowle, both of Lydgate Lane in Sheffield, were convicted and sentenced at the conclusion of a five-day trial at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday, 19 December.
Stocks, 48, was convicted of rape and sentenced to nine years in jail.
Jowle, 38, was found guilty of rape - via joint enterprise* - and two counts of sexual assault relating to the same incident, which took place back in 2023 at Fiskerton, Lincoln, and was sentenced to five years in prison.
The result will see the pair face a total combined jail time of 14 years.
Detective Constable Warwick Taylor praised the victim for their strength throughout the investigation and says without them, Stocks and Jowle would not have been brought to justice.
He said:
âUltimately, this was a harrowing ordeal for the victim who has supported the investigation every step of the way and has been the embodiment of strength and determination throughout.
âThey will have to live with the impact of this crime for the rest of their lives, but I hope these sentences give them some sense of closure.
âStocks and Jowle committed a horrendous crime and have been quite rightly punished their behaviour.
âThis result shows that those who commit this type of crime will be brought to justice and these sentences should serve as a deterrent to those who think that this is acceptable.â
Creating AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
High Street, Heathfield, TN21
A Heathfield man found with thousands of illicit pictures has become one of the first in the county to be sentenced for creating AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
James Castell, 40, of High Street in Heathfield, came to the attention of Sussex Police in October, 2024, when he was linked to the online distribution of an indecent image of a child. The image appeared to have been created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Shortly after, Castell was arrested by officers from the forceâs Online Child Abuse Team (OCAT), who searched his home and seized a number of digital devices.
The devices were found to contain over 3,800 indecent images of children, including  640 of the most serious, Category A images. Indecent images in Category A depict penetrative sexual activity, bestiality and/or sadism.
The date range of the images stretched as far back as 2016.
AI software was also found that uses text to generate images, alongside evidence that Castell was responsible for distributing the initial AI indecent image and searches online that indicated a sexual interest in children.
Castell was subsequently charged with three counts of possession of an indecent/pseudo-photograph of a child, possession of a prohibited image of a child and distributing an indecent/pseudo-photograph of a child.
He appeared at Hastings Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 8 October, where he pleaded guilty to all charges.
At Lewes Crown Court on Friday (19 December), he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, and made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order significantly controlling his use of digital devices and access to children. He will also be a registered sex offender for ten years, and order to complete rehabilitation activity and 240 hours of community work.
Detective Chief Inspector Luke Kyriakides-Yeldham said:
âEvery child sex abuse image created or shared fuels this despicable industry, and James Castell has shown absolutely no regard for childrenâs safety in pursuit of his own gratification.
âThe scale of his offending, and wider online activity, shows an offender with a committed sexual interest in children as young as three years old.
âArtificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving technology, and cases such as this show criminals will use AI for their own ends.
âMake no mistake, the use of AI to create indecent images of children is an offence. We are working hard with our partners to identify those creating and distributing these images, and we will take robust action against perpetrators.â
Rape and assault of former partner.
Thorndike Close, Southampton, SO16
A controlling and abusive man has today been jailed for 10 years for the rape and assault of a former partner.
Levi Slack-Smith deliberately isolated the woman, who he was in a relationship with at the time, from her friends.
He would threaten to send intimate photos of her to people she knew, make derogatory and aggressive comments towards her, and when she tried to break up with him he assaulted her.
A court heard the 21-year-old would hit and kick the woman, and strangled her on multiple occasions - including one incident where he caused her to pass out.
It was also heard Slack-Smith had raped her on multiple occasions during their relationship.
At Portsmouth Crown Court, he was convicted, following a trial, of four counts of rape, and five of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Slack-Smith, of Thorndike Close, Southampton, had also previously pleaded guilty to malicious communications and making threats to disclose private sexual photographs.
As part of his controlling and obsessive behaviour, he disliked her going anywhere without him and would repeatedly blame her for his actions, including telling her "I don't know why you do this to me" after he had kicked her down the stairs.
In a statement read at court today, she said:
"There are so many things Levi has said and done to me which shows he has no respect for women, or any human being at all. He raped me, beat me, spat at me, degraded and abused me in every possible way he could. He tried to destroy me and my life.
"Since the trial, I have felt a huge sense of relief knowing that he was found guilty and remanded. I have been able to go out by myself and I have gone back to college to do what I always wanted to do and hopefully one day I will fulfil my dreams.
"I want to thank everyone who has helped me throughout, especially my ISVA (independent sexual violence advisor), who was there for me and helped me out so much. I canât thank the police officers enough â it may have taken a while but we got there and got the best possible outcome â thank you."
He was also sentenced today for a dangerous driving offence, after officers pursued him in a car with cloned plates near his home - reaching speeds of up to 60mph - and arrested him on February 13, this year.
Judge Daniel Sawyer today jailed Slack-Smith for 10 years and five months, telling him:
"This ârelationshipâ had almost the entire range of abuse â sexual, violent and emotional abuse.
"Two of the ABHs involved strangulation. It is shockingly dangerous and can lead to sudden unpredictable death. It is a uniquely terrifying form of abuse and the biggest red flag there can be in terms of domestic violence.
"The court looks extremely seriously on this violence. In terms of harm there was undoubtedly severe psychological harm here."
Speaking after the sentencing, investigating officer PSI Rebecca Stevens said:
"Levi Slack-Smith is a vile and reprehensible man, who has no respect for women and refuses to take ownership of his own behaviour and actions.
"Thanks to the immense courage shown by the woman in this case, he now has plenty of time to contemplate those actions, and he is not able to pose a threat to any other women."
Sex offender jailed for breaching court order.
London Road, Northwich, Cheshire West And Chester, CW9
A sex offender given a chance to stay out of jail this summer squandered the opportunity by "deliberately" breaching a court order less than two months after it was imposed.
David Draycott, 70, of London Road, Davenham, received a two-year suspended sentence in September for amassing an "abominable" 50,000-strong collection of child sex abuse images.
He was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order banning him from any household with children under 16.
But on November 15, Draycott attended a birthday party for a terminally ill friend, staying at least an hour in the presence of two children.
The paedophile appeared at Chester Crown Court on December 17 for sentencing after pleading guilty to the breach before Chester magistrates.
Judge Simon Berkson rejected Draycott's basis of plea for a reduced sentence, stating it was not an emergency and "he could have left and come back at another time."
He added: "It was exceptional circumstances, not emergency."
The prosecution said Draycott visited a neighboring property without disclosing his sex offender status. He greeted the parent and two young children but was not left unsupervised with them.
Draycott later told his probation officer he was at the party and "they were teenagers," which the crown described as a "deliberate breach."
Defense counsel argued: "He said he hadnât thought of the implications of staying. This was the last party of a friend who died a few days after."
Judge Berkson deemed it a deliberate breach but accepted it was a "crowded room without attempts to talk to the children."
Jailing Draycott for 12 months, the judge said: "You saw there were children there but instead of leaving, you stayed for at least an hour in the presence of those children.
"You know that was a serious breach and deliberate because you know that order is in place to keep you away from children.
"But I do accept that you posed a low risk."
Child rapist threated to kill schoolgirl.
Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5
A man has been jailed for raping a child in Staffordshire.
On Friday (19 December), Thomas Green, 28, from Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyme, was sentenced to 14 years in prison with an extended license period of three years after pleading guilty to two charges of rape of a child under 16, one count of sexual activity with a child under 16 and one count of breaching a restraining order.
The extended licence was applied after HHJ Smith determined that Green was âespecially dangerousâ following an assessment.
Green has also been made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
In January this year, Greenâs victim disclosed that she had been raped by him in summer 2024.
Green was already the subject of a restraining order. Whilst the investigation was carried out, he breached the order.
He was arrested in April, charged and remanded in custody until sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
Detective Constable Katy Jones, who worked on the case, said:
âI am pleased that weâve been able to secure this outcome against a sex offender who committed crimes against a child in our community.
âThe victim has shown enormous strength in reporting what Green did.
âI would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences to report it to us. You will be listened to and supported by specially trained officers, who will do everything in their power to see that justice is done.â
14-year campaign of rape and violence against women.
Not reported.
Cameron McGregor, 34, has been jailed for eight years for a 14-year campaign of violence and rape against five women, spanning from 2008 (when he was 16) to 2022 in Dundee and Newport-on-Tay, Fife.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, the trial revealed he punched and struck three women, while subjecting two others to repeated rapes.
The former scaffolding firm owner denied the charges but was convicted.
Defence solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin noted McGregor served in the Army before a medical discharge and ran a business: "Prior to his remand he had 10 employees all of whom have now been made redundant."
McGregor was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, and Judge Lord Ericht issued non-harassment orders barring contact with his victims.
Det Insp Gordon Patullo said:
"McGregor is an abusive individual who subjected his victims to years of horrific offending, and he will now face the consequences of his actions."
Predator who targeted more than 100 teenage boys online.
Long Riding, Basildon, Essex, SS14
A sexual predator who targeted more than 100 teenage boys online over several years has been jailed following a meticulous and detailed investigation by Essex Police detectives.
Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Nicola Hadfield said:
This was one of the most horrific and far-reaching cases I have worked on.
This offender tricked and manipulated his victims and then stored the videos and images he had captured. It is right that he is now serving a substantial prison term.
forensic analysis revealed scale of offending
The Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received information that an online account associated with Conor Brady had uploaded indecent videos of children to the internet.
The 32-year-old was arrested in November 2022 and answered no comment in interview. A warrant was executed at his Basildon address, where he lived in a self-contained unit at the bottom of the garden, and a number of digital devices were seized.
Forensic analysis of these devices revealed the level of Bradyâs offending.
Using social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat, he communicated with boys between the ages of 13 and 17 years.
Using fake personas, often pretending to be a teenage girl, he would encourage and incite them to expose themselves or commit sexual acts.
Then without their knowledge he would use screen recording software to capture his criminal activity.
He further distributed and purchased child sexual abuse material.
It was also clear from the investigation that Brady used a number of different user ids to lure and deceive his victims into thinking they were communicating with different people.
Following a three-year complex and painstaking investigation, which included identifying, speaking to and supporting a number of victims, Brady was charged.
Facing an overwhelming amount of evidence against him Brady pleaded guilty to 47 charges on Friday 24 October when he appeared a Basildon Crown Court.
He admitted:
"incalculable harm"
During the sentencing hearing at the same court, HHJ Samantha Cohen said that the offences were âcarefully plannedâ and that Brady used âtried and tested methods to cause young boys to act in a way they would not have considered if they had known they were talking to a man in his 20s rather than a teenage girl".
She added:
Brady. of Long Riding, was jailed for 10 years with a further six years on extended licence. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and given a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Investigating officers Det Sgt Hadfield and Det Sgt Neale Parker were thanked by the Judge for their relentless commitment and professionalism throughout this investigation and were both awarded a commendation.
Det Sgt Hadfield added:
I want to acknowledge the impact this offending has had on the victims and survivors. Their resilience and fortitude throughout this investigation has been resolute.
I would say to anyone who has concerns they have been targeted in this way to come forward and tell us, we will listen and we will thoroughly investigate.
Sexually assaulting a woman whilst she was asleep.
Brunswick Place, Hove, Brighton & Hove, BN3
A man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a woman whilst she was asleep.
Che Phillip, 44, previously from Bedford, took advantage of the victim whilst she was sleeping on a sofa following a party.
The victim woke up, realised what was happening, and pushed him away, before getting a taxi home and calling the police.
Phillip of Brunswick Place, Hove, was found guilty of sexual assault, and was today (Thursday) handed a sentence of five and a half years.
The judge noted that the forensic evidence in this case was extremely strong and that Phillip had targeted a particularly vulnerable victim and had shown no remorse for what he had done.
Detective Constable Amy Dewar from Bedfordshire Police said:
âThis was a shocking and predatory act that violated the victimâs trust and safety leaving her with severe psychological harm including flashbacks of what happened.
âWe commend her courage in coming forward and reporting what happened. Sexual assault is never acceptable, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and support victims.
"It is never too late to report a crime, and by doing so, you are helping us to bring these dangerous perpetrators to justice."
Rape and false imprisonment.
Boverton, Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, CF61
A 23-year-old man from South Wales has been jailed for six-and-a-half years for offences of rape and false imprisonment.
Samuel Rust, previously of Boverton, Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan, was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court on Wednesday (17 December).Â
Last year (2024) he had been charged with several offences and went on trial at Gloucester Crown Court in December 2024.Â
Rust was found guilty of one count of anal rape, one count of oral rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of false imprisonment. These offences related to one woman.
Immediately prior to his trial, he pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images.
He was acquitted of 25 other counts, and a jury failed to reach a verdict on seven others. These seven counts will lie on file.
The court was told that Rust was aged 16 when he raped a 16-year-old girl.
On a separate occasion he tied her up with her consent, but he then put her inside a cupboard naked for around 15 minutes without her consent.
This led to him being charged and convicted of false imprisonment.Â
When Rust was arrested by Gloucestershire Police in April 2024, several of his electronic devices were seized.
The court was told that examinations revealed around 4,500 videos were on the devices between 2021 and 2024, a significant number of which depicted violence against, and the sexual abuse of, women.
Rust's defence barrister, Simon Warlock, said Rust had felt there were fewer videos and that Rust was a child at the time of the first rape.
His Honour Judge Ian Lawrie KC said:
"It was a litany of extreme pornography, brutality, humiliation, all manner of things. At a young age he had a fixation for appalling imagery, which echoes how he approaches women and certainly [the victim]."
The victim was in court and she read a statement detailing the impact Rust's offences had on her.
She said:
"The abuse I have suffered at the hands of you, Samuel Rust, is indescribable. And yet I am almost certain you cannot grasp how seriously your actions have affected anyone but yourself.
"For years I have felt the crushing, debilitating weight of fear and shame in my own body, because of you. No words can describe the horror you have subjected me to.
"No place is safe in the ghost of your presence. Flashes of the violent and humiliating acts you committed against me come to me with seemingly no rhyme or reason. And yet in those moments, I feel disgust in my own body.
"I wish to crawl out of the flesh you bruised, and yet neither is my mind safe. A part of you persists in there, and I am terrified of how long he will stay, how many years it will be until I truly find peace again.
"Many eyes see you for what you are today, Samuel Rust, and it is my sincere hope that you are one of them. Today, you will come away from your sentencing a rapist. A violent man. An abuser. I fear if you do not see yourself as those things now, that is all you will ever be.
"Although this trial has been deeply harrowing, I am grateful to those who made this outcome possible."
In mitigation, the court heard Rust was of previous good character, however Judge Lawrie said he showed "little remorse of substance" for his crimes after reading a letter Rust had written to the victim.
He said the letter was "the opposite of contrition" as Rust failed to recognise the harm caused by his actions and it was an exercise in âgaslighting".Â
Before passing sentence, Judge Lawrie said Rust's fixation with extreme pornography was an aggravating factor and he expressed concern that "a spectator of such material can become an active participant".
He said:
"The extensive and disturbing imagery was hallmarked by sadomasochistic practices based on the brutal humiliation and domination of women and premised on violence and restraint.
"There were captions accompanying the images that tellingly show a clear interest in such sex and which was echoed in your behaviour towards the victim. Behaviour which reached beyond any consensual mutual interest.Â
"The imagery showed a fascination and fixation for pushing the boundaries of such sex and to the humiliation [of women] - as happened with the victim."
As well as being jailed for six-and-a-half years, Rust was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and given restraining orders against the victim and two other women.
Following sentencing, investigating officer Detective Constable Annabel Brittain said:
"The crimes in this case have had a devastating and prolonged effect, as the victim so clearly articulated in her moving personal statement.
"She and the other witnesses who provided harrowing evidence should be commended for their strength and bravery during the complex investigation and lengthy trial process which have led to this offender being imprisoned for a significant time.
"His Honour Judge Lawrie commented on Rustâs âextraordinary fixationâ with demeaning and brutal pornography and how his being a spectator for this seems to have led to him perceiving women as âobjects of gratificationâ and having a âfascination with pushing the boundaries of sexâ and therefore posing an enduring risk.
"He also noted the offenderâs lack of remorse for his actions. For these reasons, I am glad His Honour took, in his words, the unusual step of imposing a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order to help ensure peopleâs safety for ever after Rust is released from behind bars."
