Mark Thompson, from Aberdare, sexually abused a boy over the course of two years, beginning when the boy was just eight years old.
The boy knew it was wrong, but he was too scared and frightened to tell anyone. He kept what had happened to him a secret for over ten years- until 2021, when he bravely disclosed the abuse he had suffered at Thompsonâs hands.
An investigation was launched and Thompson was arrested and charged.
The matter went to trial and Thompson was subsequently found guilty for a number of sexual offences.
On Friday 28 April, the 39-year-old was jailed for 16 years for rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual assault.
Detective Constable Emma Songhurst, who led the case, said:
âI would like to commend the victim and their family for the courage they have shown throughout this investigation.
âEvery child has a right to grow up free from fear and abuse and I hope this case demonstrates our dedication and determination to pursue justice for anyone who has suffered like this.
âI would encourage anyone who has been the victim of a similar crime to report it to us, regardless of how much time has passed, as the crime will be fully investigated, and they will get our full support.â

Paedophile took rucksack of booze to meet underage girl for sex.
George Street, Alfreton, Derbyshire, DE55
A paedophile turned up at a Derbyshire railway station with a bottle of whisky and beer in a rucksack to take a 13-year-old girl heâd groomed online to some nearby woods for sex.
In a message shortly before he did, Ryan Burton told the teenager to say she was his cousin if anyone challenged them. But unbeknown to the 25-year-old, Leah, who heâd messaged continually for three weeks and badgered into meeting him, was really an undercover police officer.
Jailing him for 27 months, Judge Shaun Smith KC said: âWhat you set about doing in January and February of this year was appalling, quite frankly. You did not know it was a police officer, you thought it was a 13-year-old girl.
âI am not going to repeat the disgusting things you said you were going to do to her but sometimes people say these things and never go out of their bedroom and the court can be content it is all talk. But that did not happen with you.
âYou intended to meet up with what you thought was a 13-year-old girl in order, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind about this, that you will have had sexual activity with her. You arrived at the station, you had a rucksack and in it booze to ply her with but thankfully it was not a 13-year-old girl.
âI take into account your age and I take into account that you were bound to be caught and that demonstrates an element of naivety. But there is concern (from the probation service) in your pre-sentence report that you pose a high risk to female children online aged 11 to 16 in order to satisfy your sexual needs.â
Stefa Fox, prosecuting, said an undercover police officer set up a profile for the decoy, named Leah, and that âalmost immediatelyâ the defendant began chatting to her online. He said very quickly their online chat turned sexual and over the next three weeks the officer gathered 188 pages of chat logs between them.
The prosecutor said: âHe asked her what school she went to and told her he was a fast food manager. He sent her a picture of his (private parts) and asked her if she liked it and if she wanted to have sex with him. The conversation continued with him saying âyou look very young, itâs going to be fun dating you,â and âcan I see you nude?â.
âHe said she would look cute in her school uniform and then sent her a video over Snapchat of him (touching himself sexually). Throughout their conversations he persistently tried to make plans to meet her.â
Mr Fox said the pair did arrange to meet at Alfreton railway station on February 22, this year, and he sent her messages that morning saying he would take her to some woods he knew and that if anyone saw them together she should tell them she was his cousin. He said the police confronted him at the railway station and he had a rucksack in which was a bottle of whisky, beer, food, soft drinks and a towel.
Burton, of George Street, Alfreton, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. He has no previous convictions.
Mark Knowles, mitigating, said: âI asked the defendant if there was any shame and embarrassment in terms of what he told the probation service and he told me he finds it difficult to speak to people generally."
As well as the jail term, Judge Smith placed Burton on the sex offender register for 10 years and handed him a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
Groomed and then raped a teenage girl.
No fixed address.
A man who groomed and then raped a teenage girl has been jailed after his victim bravely came forward to tell police of the ordeal her attacker had subjected her to.
Richard Park, 45, had been contacting the 15-year-old girl via social media, before meeting the victim in January 2020.
While in his car in the North Tyneside area, he forced the teenager to perform a sex act on him.
The victim then contacted police to inform them of what had taken place and a full investigation was launched - in which the victim shared numerous messages with officers which Park had sent her. Following his arrest, Park denied any physical contact between himself and the victim.
He was however subsequently charged with rape of a female under 16, engaging in sexual communications with a child and child grooming. Park, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child and child grooming, but not guilty to the rape charge - which he was convicted of following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court.
At the same court on Wednesday, May 10, he was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison.
Park was also made subject of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offendersâ Register for the next decade.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Karen Douglas, of Northumbria Police, said: âParkâs victim showed immense courage in coming forward to report the abuse he had put her through and we hope that his conviction helps to provide a degree of closure, enabling her to move on with her life.
âWe are grateful for her and her familyâs continued co-operation throughout the investigation, which has helped to put a manipulative and predatory paedophile behind bars.â
Det Con Douglas added: âPark knew his victim was underage and yet still he chose to pursue a sexual relationship with her, that is abhorrent. Not only did he groom and rape his victim, but he also then put her through the ordeal of a trial when he pleaded not guilty to the rape offence.
âThankfully the jury saw through his lies and he is now rightfully beginning a lengthy term behind bars.â

St Margaret's Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV31
A convicted sex offender from Leamington who raped a woman in the backseat of his car while he filmed the assault has been jailed.
Victor Tsamo, 33, of St. Margaret's Road, Leamington, was sentenced today (May 11) at Warwick Crown Court to 13 years in prison with an extended licence period of four years following his release. He was convicted of rape and voyeurism following a trial in April 2023.
He was also sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for voyeurism and 12 months imprisonment for breach of the suspended sentence order, both to be served concurrently and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
On August 27, 2022, Tsamo befriended the woman who had been separated from her friends following a night out at a bar in Leamington.
CCTV footage from the club showed Tsamo watching the woman while she was drinking alcohol with her friends, and later following her as she left the club.
Tsamo was then seen by witnesses and captured on CCTV carrying her to his car.
He drove her to a remote location where raped her. She had no idea she had been assaulted when she awoke in the backseat of his car outside her house.
Tsamo then asked her on a date and when she refused, he told her he had just had sex with her and showed her a video of the offending.
When Tsamo was arrested, he admitted to having sex with the woman but claimed it had been consensual. He also admitted taking a video which showed him having sex with her but claimed she agreed to it.
However, the strong evidence from the woman, and the corroboration from witness statements from the victimâs friends, the staff at the nightclub, and CCTV footage saw Tsamo found guilty by the jury.

Pensioner sent sex chat to underage girls during lockdown.
Heanor, Derbyshire, DE75
This pensioner twice contacted who he believed were 13-year-old girls online and engaged in explicit sexual chat with them. Derby Crown Court heard how Bryan Eaglefield told the first one he would like to kiss, cuddle and shower with her.
After being arrested and while under investigation for that offence he carried out the same perverted act with a second underage teen. But on both occasions, Summer and Olivia were actually undercover police officers.
Lesley Pidock, defending the 67-year-old father-of-two, said: He has worked all of his life in factories and was made redundant. He then began working in a care home until he retired three years ago which coincided with the national lockdown in 2020.
That was set against unhappy domestic circumstances where his marriage of the last 11 years had failed and he found himself locked in struggling with loneliness, social isolation and a failed marriage. Any friends they had were joint friends and he lost them during the split from his wife.
That is the best he can do to explain what led him into this position. He has behaved appallingly and he is incredibly ashamed. He has lost contact with everyone in his life apart from his two daughters as a result of his actions.
He now lives entirely on his own. Sam Lowne, prosecuting, said the first offence took place in February 2021.
He said an identity called Derbys M linked to Eaglefield began chatting to 13-year-old Summer online and that the conversation quickly moved to sexualised chat.
The prosecutor said: Summer was really an LEO, or law enforcement officer and the defendant started telling her her pyjamas were sexy, that he wanted pictures of her and that he would like them to kiss, cuddle and shower together and asked her what was under her dressing gown.
A warrant was executed at his then address, he was there with his wife and he was arrested and his devices were seized and analysed. He told officers I have been talking to young girls and on one Nokia phone were two indecent images.
In an interview he said it was friendly banter. Mr Lowne said while under investigation for that, in November 2022, Eaglefield, of Heanor, began talking online to Olivia, another 13-year-old girl.
He said during those chats he told her how he would like to kiss and cuddle her and shared an image of himself to her. The defendant, of Cromford Close, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of making indecent images of a child.
He has no previous convictions or cautions of any kind. Handing him a 14-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, Judge Shaun Smith KC said: I have absolutely no doubt, in your loneliness, you moved from looking at adult sites, which is not an offence, and then got yourself involved with children, which is.
The problem here is that having been detected and spoken to by the police, you did it again and that makes it a lot more serious.
As part of the suspended sentence order, Judge Smith ordered Eaglefield to attend a 45-day sex offender treatment programme and to attend 55 rehabilitation sessions. He placed him on the sex offender register for 10 years and handed him a sexual harm prevention order, also for 10 years. The defendant was also ordered to pay 400 towards the prosecution costs.
Sex offender targeted schoolgirls on buses.
No fixed address.
A PREDATORY offender who would target schoolgirls on buses by passing them his phone number has been jailed for sexual offences.
Adetunji Akona-Dosunmo, 35, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, May 9 after committing sex offences in Merseyside.
In April last year following a long investigation by Merseyside Police, detectives charged Akona-Dosunmo with a number of crimes which took place in Merseyside and Manchester during February and March last year.
'Passing phone number'
Detectives say that while travelling on buses he would "pass his phone number to underage girls to engage in sexual activity".
On Monday, February 6, he pleaded guilty to four counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that was already in place, two counts of sexual communication with a child, and an attempt to arrange/facilitate a child sex offence.
Detective Constable Rachael Barcas, who headed the investigation, said: âWe welcome this sentence given to Akona-Dosunmo as he is now behind bars and can no longer cause harm to children with his predatory offending.
âAkona-Dosunmo committed a number of offences in Merseyside and Manchester where he would travel on a bus and attempt to engage with schoolgirls wearing a school uniform by handing them notes with his telephone number and asking them to call him.
Child was aged 11
âIn one instance the victim he targeted in Crosby was aged just 11, proving that he is a serious risk to children.
"Upon sentencing the judge stated that he poses significant risk of committing further offences as he has strong sexual urges or desires resulting in him planning ways to bring about contact with underage girls with the express aim of having sexual activity with them.â
Merseyside Police is committed to protecting victims of sexual offences, and anyone who reports an incident to us will be safeguarded and supported throughout the investigation by Specially Trained Officers and Sexual Violence Advocates who will provide all the relevant support.
Praise for young victims
Detective Inspector Alan Nuttall added: âThis investigation was complex in nature, requiring collaboration with colleagues in Greater Manchester Police.
"Detective Constable Barcas has worked tirelessly to ensure that justice has been served and I wish to take this opportunity to thank the young victims in the case for coming forward and providing the evidence required to ensure that this individual is appropriately punished.
âWe have specialist officers who are dedicated to investigating these crimes, bringing those responsible before the courts and ultimately protecting young people from unimaginable suffering.
âI would like to take this opportunity to stress that if you have experienced any form of sexual abuse, or know of a child being abused, please come forward and report this to police.
âWe take all such reports extremely seriously and if you can find the courage to come forward and speak to us we have specially trained officers who will treat you with sensitivity and compassion.â
Akona-Dosunmo, of no fixed address but formerly from Salford, was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Had sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

A convicted sex offender failed to sign on at the police station â claiming heâd gone down with a migraine after taking a blow to the head from a tyre lever.
Jordan McDonagh, 26, was jailed in 2017 for 40 months after embarking on a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
He was subsequently recalled to prison on licence and given further jail time for breaching sex offender notification requirements in 2021.
On Tuesday (May 9), Oxford Magistratesâ Court heard that McDonagh was released from prison on licence in 2022 and put up in a bail hostel in Milton Keynes.
Having returned to Oxford, he was placed in âvarious hotels by probationâ, his advocate Nadine Colyer said.
He âmistakenlyâ thought that, having spoken to the probation service, this would mean that he would no longer be registered at the Milton Keynes premises that had previously been his address registered with the police.
As a result, he failed to register his new addresses with the police within three days of moving â a requirement of all registered sex offenders.
Now homeless and living in a tent in Cowley, he is required to register his details at the police station every seven days.
He was meant to sign on at the police station in late March, but turned up a day late.
Defending, Ms Colyer said: âHe had been at work on March 24, heâd been hit on his head by a tyre lever and this caused him a migraine.
âAs a result, he finished work early on March 25 and took the following day off.â
She said McDonagh accepted that his injury did not prevent him from reaching the police station that day.
âHe is currently living in a tent in a nature reserve in Cowley. His public protection officer is fully aware of his whereabouts,â Ms Colyer added.
McDonagh was working part-time as a tyre-fitter, with hopes of being taken on full-time. With more hours, he would be able to obtain somewhere to live.
The defendant admitted breaching his sex offender notification requirements. The magistrates declined to deal with the matter there and then, bailing McDonagh and ordering a pre-sentence report from the probation service.
He will be sentenced on June 6.
The offence to which he has pleaded guilty carries a maximum penalty of five yearsâ imprisonment when dealt with at the crown court.

Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17
A Nottinghamshire man has been jailed for 27 years for raping young girls.
Richard Stocks, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, repeatedly attacked his victims then instructed them to keep quiet, Nottinghamshire Police said.
However the 55-year-old was arrested after one of them defied his order to remain silent and told their mother what had happened in July 2021.
He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting 12 counts of rape.
Stocks also pleaded guilty to a further charge of attempted rape, two of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was ordered to serve another year on extended licence on top of his 27-year custodial sentence.
Victims' bravery
Police said Stocks will have to serve at least two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole and will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
Detectives praised the bravery of Stocks' victims whose testimony about his behaviour and his distinctive physical characteristics helped to secure his convictions.
Det Con Kerry Stringfellow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Stocks is a devious and predatory sex offender who repeatedly preyed on young children.
"The nature of his offending was utterly horrific and has unsurprisingly had a very significant impact on his victims.
"But for their bravery in coming forward and telling us about what had happened, Stocks would have remained a danger to any children he came into contact with."
Indecent images of children found in home for second time.
Sowerby Close Estate, Sowerby Close, Eltham, SE9
A man who hid devices at his flat containing over a thousand indecent images of children has been jailed.
Warren David Manners, 45, of Sowerby Close, Eltham was jailed two years and eight months at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday.
He had pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possession of indecent images of children and three counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
Manners was already a registered sex offender having been convicted of possessing indecent images of children.
He had been issued with a sexual harm prevention order which prohibited him from being in possession of digital devices or devices that enable access to the internet without notifying a local unit.
On March 22, Met officers executed a search warrant at Mannersâ address.
Manners initially denied owning any phones, tablets, or laptops, but officers found a total of 32 digital devices hidden throughout his flat including a cupboard with multiple locks.
Officers also found hundreds of still photographs of children inside the flat.
Officers established that 21 of the digital devices seized contained indecent images of children.
Manners was charged and attended Bromley Magistratesâ Court on March 23. He pleaded guilty at his first hearing and was remanded in custody.
Met detective James Cronin said: âManners is by his own admission a paedophile who has repeatedly ignored court orders put in place to help him desist from his criminal behaviour.â

Took indecent images of a 10-year-old girl and molested a six-year-old.
Not reported.
A pervert who took indecent images of a 10-year-old girl in Swindon and molested a six-year-old more than a decade earlier has been put behind bars.
John Shannon, from Southampton, was jailed after pleading guilty to five offences including the sexual assault of a child under 13, taking and possessing indecent images of children and possession of an extreme pornographic image.
The 58-year-old was handed a prison sentence of five years and six months at Southampton Crown Court last week.
Shannon was caught out when National Crime Agency (NCA) investigators identified a woman who he had sexually assaulted in 2010.
The victim was just six years old at the time of the assault and was in Shannonâs care.
Shannon was arrested in September, 2022, and was released on conditional bail.
NCA investigators seized his phone and laptop, for analysis, and discovered child abuse material including a category A video, the most serious type, and 13 category C images of a man and a child.
The child, a 10-year-old girl, has since been identified and safeguarded.
The New Milton Advertiser and Lymington Times reported that some of these indecent images and videos were found to have been taken at an address in Swindon.
They added that the investigation found Shannon had attended a party at the address, and stayed the night, before recording the images on his mobile phone.
Investigators were able to prove Shannon was in the photos and had taken them himself, while records showed that he had travelled to the location where the pictures were taken.
Shannon was subsequently re-arrested in December, 2022, and charged with these additional offences.
As part of his sentence, Shannon will also be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
Graham Clare from the National Crime Agency said: âShannon was a repeat offender who clearly has a sexual interest in young girls.
âHaving felt he had gotten away with assaulting one child, he went on to take sexualised images of another 12 years later.
âI commend the young woman in this case who showed great bravery in speaking out against him and helping to ensure he was put behind bars.
âProtecting the public, especially children, is the NCAâs top priority. We will continue to ensure those seeking to harm them are identified and jailed for their crimes.â
Robert Wills 48

Possessing indecent images of children and attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
West Market Place, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7
A 46-year-old Cirencester man has been jailed for three years after he admitted numerous charges of possessing indecent images of children and attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
Robert Wills of West Market Place, who pleaded guilty to all ten charges, was caught in a police 'sting' operation to catch online paedophiles.
Prosecutor Jack Barry told Gloucester Crown Court on Tuesday, May 2, that one officer posed as 'Izzy,' a 12-year-old girl in the Autumn of 2021.
âWills, a convicted sex offender, was tempted and instigated an online conversation with Izzy and told her his name was Darren," said the prosecutor.
âWills claimed that he had dated girls of her age many times before and added, âIâve dated girls where we met up. Iâve also dated mums and had a relationship with their daughters at the same time.
"He stated on one occasion that he was masturbating while watching child pornography featuring girls of her age and told her, âI wish I was with you doing these thingsâ.
The court was told that the police made enquiries using the phone number he had used and his usernames on social media, during the conversation with the undercover officer.
Police then attended Wills' home address, at which he was listed on the sex offendersâ register, on April 5 where he was arrested.
His devices were seized and these contained 496 indecent images of a child in category A, the most serious, 406 images in category B and 410 images in category C.
The court was told that Wills had been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years following his conviction for possessing indecent images of children in March 2013. He had been sentenced at that time to a prison term of 24 months.
In his police interview Wills claimed he knew all along that 'Izzy' was not who she said she was and was trying to catch her out. He stated he resorted to this type of activity when he was 'in a dark place.'
Steven Young defending, said: âWills still maintains he doesnât have a sexual interest in contacting children in this way.
âHe says that he did not believe he was communicating with a child, but an adult, and was trying to catch them out.â
Wills pleaded guilty to all ten charges including three counts of possessing indecent images in categories A, B and C.
As well as, one count of possessing 51 prohibited images of a child and one charge of extreme pornography with an animal and two charges of distributing indecent images of children, attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
Wills also admitted failing to comply with the terms of being on the sex offendersâ register and possessing 17 grams of a class B drug, namely amphetamine.
Judge Rupert Lowe sentenced Wills to a three year prison term and ordered the destruction of all the digital devices containing the offending images and the drugs.
The judge subjected Wills to the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for life and indefinite sex offender registration.

Pervert sexually assaulted woman while his girlfriend was in the room.
Hallow Drive, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE15
A brazen pervert sexually assaulted a "terrified" woman while his girlfriend was in the same room.
Paul Gerry, who has a past conviction for sexually assaulting a teenager, touched the victim's breasts and cupped her genitals during a gathering at a house in Newcastle, all while his partner was just metres away. A court heard that the 47-year-old's victim was considerably younger than him, although she was an adult, and was left too frightened to shout out.
The following day, Gerry sent the victim messages asking her not to say anything and offering her "ÂŁ40 or ÂŁ50 cash", prosecutors said. However, his predatory behaviour was reported to the police and he was arrested,
Gerry, of Hallow Drive, in Throckley, has now been jailed for 12 months after a judge deemed that he hadn't learned his lesson following his conviction in 2015 for similar offending. Recorder Thomas Moran said: "You didn't learn from your past conviction. That or you're just unable to control your sexual urges, despite the fact a great deal of work has already been done with you on your three-year community order and sex offenders' programme from 2015."
Mr Recorder Moran added: "You do present a degree of risk and the prospect of rehabilitation doesn't seem to be particularly good. The appropriate punishment can only be met by custody."
Newcastle Crown Court was told that the victim was at an address in Newcastle with Gerry and others one evening in October last year when he began secretly touching her inappropriately. Jane Waugh, prosecuting, continued: "He put his hand under her top and over her bra and felt her breasts.
"The defendant then unbuttoned her trousers and put his hands under her knickers and cupped her genitals. His girlfriend was present in the room. [The victim] was so scared, she couldn't talk or move."
The court heard that, when Gerry and the victim were later alone, he tried to kiss and hug her but she pushed him away. The following day he then sent her messages asking her not to tell anyone what had happened and offering her cash.
However, the woman later reported Gerry to the police and he was arrested. In a statement, she said: "This incident left me feeling closed in on myself emotionally and it's changed my life both physically and mentally. My mental health has deteriorated, where as before I had no issues."
Jennifer Coxon, defending, said Gerry was a carer for his elderly father and was remorseful. She added: "Mr Gerry has indicated that he's unable to make sense of what happened or why he did what he did that night. He doesn't usually drink on a regular basis and, while he hadn't consumed a large amount of alcohol, it had affected him considerably."
As well as the prison sentence, Gerry must sign the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.

Convicted of rape and intentional strangulation of a women.
Westridge Road, Southampton, Hampshire, SO17
A Southampton man has been jailed for 15 years after being convicted of rape and intentional strangulation following an incident in the Southampton area in September last year.
On Thursday 4 May, 30-year-old Jordan Thomas Campbell was sentenced, after previously being found guilty of rape and intentional strangulation during a trial at Southampton Crown Court on 27 February 2023.
The circumstances surrounding the incident is that Campbell and the victim were known to each other; with the woman coming to Jordanâs aid after seeing him injured in the Southampton area on the evening of Friday 16 September.
They left the area and visited his home address; with the woman concerned for his welfare.
As the woman went to leave the property, Jordan Campbell is said to have become verbally aggressive before assaulting her. He then proceeded to intentionally strangle her before raping her in a room inside the property.
The woman also sustained bruising to her face, neck and chest area as a result of the assault.
Campbell began to harass a woman; sending a barrage of messages, videos, voice messages as well as phone calls over a five-day period between September 17, 2022 and 22 September, 2022.
Campbell, of Westridge Road in Southampton, was later arrested and subsequently charged with rape, intentional strangulation, controlling and coercive behaviour and harassment.
In a victim impact statement, she states that the incident âmade me feel like I lost control of who I am. Any dignity I had was goneâ. She continues to say that she no longer feels ânormalâ, that she âdoesnât feel herselfâ and that the incident has âimpacted day-to-dayâ how she is feeling and that she âcannot got on with her lifeâ.
Jordan Thomas Campbell appearing at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday 4 May, was sentenced to 15 years years for rape â nine years custodial sentence and ordered to serve six years on extended licence. He was also sentenced to two years for the non-fatal strangulation offence and 12 months for harassment â these are to be served concurrently.
A restraining order was also granted against contact with the victim. Whilst he was also ordered to sign the sex offendersâ register for an indefinite period of time.
