Description

A 'despicable' man left a 13-year-old girl 'traumatised' after sending her a sexually explicit video during an unsolicited phone call.

Andrew Murray, 31, was believed to dial random numbers for sexual conversations with strangers.

On October 7, he called the teenager, who recorded the conversation and informed her mother, leading to a police report.

Her 'swift' and 'sensible' actions provided Cambridgeshire Police with evidence to arrest Murray, who asked her age before sending the video of himself performing a sexual act.

His actions also breached a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).

Murray, of St Bedes Crescent, Cambridge, admitted causing a child aged 13 to 15 to view an image of sexual activity and pleaded guilty to three SHPO breaches.

He was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Cambridge Crown Court on November 27.

Detective Sergeant Andy Harding said:

“The fact Murray ascertained the age of the child and continued to send the explicit video of himself, makes his actions all the more despicable.

“This event was traumatising for the teenager.

"Her swift actions were truly courageous and her calm, sensible reactions meant we could arrest Murray with proof of the encounter.”
