SENTENCE on a 40 year old man who exposed his penis and masturbated in a Shetland swimming pool was deferred for reports when he appeared before Lerwick Sheriff Court, on Wednesday.

Mohamed Nurul Haque, of 23 Crane House, Verwood, Dorset, pled guilty to a charge of public indecency at the Clickimin Leisure Complex on 27 April 2010.

The court heard that Haque had been alone in the steam room when he started masturbating himself.

He was seen through a glass door by two receptionists who alerted a male member of staff who asked him to leave.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that Haque had told the police he had been attempting to alleviate pain for a sensitive condition.

Clearly the intention was to gratify himself, he said, adding that there had been a significant sexual aspect to this.

Sheriff Philipp Mann deferred sentence until 25 August for social enquiry, community service reports as well as a restriction of liberty assessment.

A decision on whether Haque has to be put on the sex offenders register will be made on the day of sentencing.
