Police have released the mugshot of a man jailed for stalking and raping a teenage girl in Nottingham. Shane Nash, who was not known to the victim, admitted to carrying out the attack in Top Valley on January 29.

The 39-year-old stalked the victim after she had dropped a friend off at a bus stop. He followed her into an alleyway before dragging her into nearby bushes, tying up her hands and mouth.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said it had "changed my life forever", with a judge describing the rape as "one of the gravest offences that anyone could commit".

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, July 12, Nash, of Boniface Gardens, Bestwood, was given a life sentence, of which he will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison. He was also added to the sex offenders' register for life.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, the girl said: "I was doing a nice thing walking her [her friend] to the bus stop. My life was TikTok videos, Snapchat and hanging out with friends. After he raped me my mind went blank, I couldn't believe what had happened, it didn't feel real. He threatened to kill me and I thought if I stayed still he wouldn't.

"I kept asking myself did that really happen? I couldn't process it in my head. When I'm on my own I get the feeling I'm not safe. I just want to be normal again. I have trouble sleeping sometimes and have bad dreams.

"When I can't sleep I replay what happened that evening. On the times I have been out I have the feeling that someone is behind me. My family have been amazing, they don't want me to go out because of what happened to me. I hope he never walks the streets again.

"I think why did he pick me? What did I do to make him do this to me? This is something I have to live through."

Detective Inspector Craig Hall, who led the investigation for Nottinghamshire Police, said it was a "horrific crime that shocked and appalled the local community". He said: "The victim in this case was simply walking home as she was grabbed and attacked.

“She is traumatised by what happened and this is likely to have a lasting impact upon her and her family. She has shown remarkable courage and dignity throughout the legal process and my thoughts are very much with her today.

“Nash’s behaviour, by contrast, has been appalling throughout. He has shown absolutely no remorse for what he did and continued to [initially] deny the offence even when presented with incontrovertible evidence of his guilt."

Matt Evans, from the Crown Prosecution Service, added: “Shane Nash subjected a young girl to a terrifying ordeal barely minutes from her home. The violent and merciless nature of the attack is reflected in today’s significant jail sentence.

“The survivor in this case has suffered severe trauma and has a long journey of recovery ahead of her.”

A Nottinghamshire man has been jailed for 27 years for raping young girls.

Richard Stocks, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, repeatedly attacked his victims then instructed them to keep quiet, Nottinghamshire Police said.

However the 55-year-old was arrested after one of them defied his order to remain silent and told their mother what had happened in July 2021.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting 12 counts of rape.

Stocks also pleaded guilty to a further charge of attempted rape, two of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was ordered to serve another year on extended licence on top of his 27-year custodial sentence.

Victims' bravery

Police said Stocks will have to serve at least two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole and will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Detectives praised the bravery of Stocks' victims whose testimony about his behaviour and his distinctive physical characteristics helped to secure his convictions.

Det Con Kerry Stringfellow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Stocks is a devious and predatory sex offender who repeatedly preyed on young children.

"The nature of his offending was utterly horrific and has unsurprisingly had a very significant impact on his victims.

"But for their bravery in coming forward and telling us about what had happened, Stocks would have remained a danger to any children he came into contact with."

A man from near Worksop found guilty of multiple sexual offences with a child has had his sentence doubled after the case was referred under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

Thomas Timpson, aged 36, of Kirton, Ollerton, denied the allegations but was convicted after trial at Nottingham Crown Court and was originally sentenced to three years in prison.

Over a period of five to six months, Timpson bought his 15-year-old victim gifts and engaged in sexual activity with her.

Timpson was found guilty on six counts of sexual activity with a child, one of sexual communication with a child and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181, was added to the sex offender’s register and made the subject of a Restraining Order for 10 years.

Following the sentencing on January 20 this year, the case was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

Timpson’s original sentence was found to be unduly lenient by the court on April 4, 2023, and was increased to six years’ imprisonment.

Speaking after the hearing, the Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP said: “Despite denying the allegations, the court found that Thomas Timpson had groomed his underage victim and took full advantage of her.

“This was a truly appalling breach of trust and I welcome the court imposing an increased custodial sentence on Thomas Timpson recognising the heinous nature of his crimes.”

Speaking at the time, Detective Sergeant James Robinson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Timson’s behaviour was manipulative and predatory. He knew exactly what he was doing.”

A violent sexual predator who repeatedly raped a woman has been jailed for 12 years.

Robert Taylor, 49, attacked the woman at a property in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in October 2022.

He threatened her at knifepoint and assaulted her, leaving her with fractured ribs and a bleed on the brain, police said.

Taylor pleaded guilty to six counts of rape and a further charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The offender, of HMP Nottingham, was jailed for 12 years with an extended licence period of four years at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday.

He was also added to the sex offenders register and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for life.

Det Insp Jamie Moore said: "This survivor was subjected to what can only be described as violent, sickening, and savage treatment by Taylor who left her with severe injuries in the street.

"I'd like to commend her for her bravery shown throughout our investigation and I hope today’s result brings her some closure.

"I also hope our work in this case reassures other victims that they can feel confident about coming forward and that Nottinghamshire Police treats rape and sexual assault extremely seriously."

A man has been given a four-year sentence for sex attacks carried out when he worked in a children's home.

Dean Gathercole was jailed for 19 years in 2018 after being found guilty of three counts of rape and six counts of indecent assault.

Nottinghamshire Police said a woman now in her 40s learned of his offending and reported further instances of abuse.

Gathercole, 58, was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

The new sentence will run consecutively to the term handed down in 2018.

Police said the abuse took place during an overnight stay at a holiday park, when the defendant assaulted the teenager - who was then in his care - in a swimming pool and a cabin.

'Simply unforgivable'

Gathercole was one of a number of former employees at children's homes mentioned during the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse's investigation into services in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Det Con Stephen Dunn, from Nottinghamshire Police, praised the woman for the "enormous courage" she showed in reporting the abuse she suffered.

"Gathercole was entrusted to look after vulnerable young people who looked to him for guidance and support," he said.

"Instead of helping this child through a very challenging period of her life, he chose instead to groom and abuse her for his own sexual gratification.

"His behaviour was simply unforgivable, and I am pleased that he has now been held accountable for these appalling crimes."

A man and woman from Nottingham have been jailed for a total of 10 years for sexually abusing a child and sharing the footage online.

Christopher Binch, 36, was arrested by the National Crime Agency on 12th March 2022, after it was identified he had been discussing his sexual interest in children and uploading indecent material to an online child abuse group.

Binch shared a video and a number of images which he had taken himself of a young child being sexually abused.

When arresting him, officers seized Binch’s mobile phone and a quantity of cocaine which he confirmed was for his personal use.

Through further examination of the video, NCA investigators identified that although it was Binch filming, it was a female with a visible tattoo carrying out the abuse.  

The tattoo matched that of Binch’s partner, Lindsay Mobey, aged 34, and she was arrested three days later.

Binch’s phone was analysed and officers recovered 347 indecent images of children (IIOC) in categories A-C, as well as a number of extreme and prohibited images. The material included three sexual abuse videos which Binch had filmed himself.

Binch was remanded in custody and in November last year, he pleaded guilty to ten charges, including the sexual assault of a child under 13, the taking, making, possession and distribution of IIOC, possession of extreme pornography and one count of possession of cocaine.

In the same month, Lyndsay Mobey pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a child under 13.

Today at Leicester Crown Court, Binch was sentenced to eight years and one month in prison, placed on the sex offenders register for life and handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

Mobey was jailed for two years and one month and will be on the sex offenders register for five years.

The child was safeguarded early on in the investigation.

“Binch and Mobey worked together to sexually abuse a young child, which he filmed and shared with other paedophiles online.

“Their actions were calculated and abhorrent; exploiting this child to satisfy their own sexual gratifications and gain some horrific form of kudos among the like-minded online.

“Safeguarding children from sexual abuse is a priority for the NCA. We work tirelessly to identify offenders and ensure they are brought to justice so they no longer pose a threat.”

A paedophile who sexually abused three girls has been jailed for seven years.

Derbyshire Police said one of Michael McCafferty's victims was less than five years old when the offending began in the 1990s.

The 74-year-old, of Church Lane in Selston, Nottinghamshire, was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault after a trial at Derby Crown Court.

He was jailed for seven years on Tuesday.

McCafferty was also found guilty of three counts of making indecent images of a child.

Det Con Gavin Owen, from Derbyshire Police, praised the victims for coming forward and securing a conviction against McCafferty, who will also serve one year on extended licence after his release.

"They showed great courage and remained steadfast throughout a lengthy investigation and trial," he said.

"I know how much today's sentencing means to them, particularly after McCafferty put them all through the secondary ordeal of a trial after denying the abuse that he inflicted upon them."

A MAN travelled across the country to meet and abuse an 11-year-old child in Southampton.

Daniel Castel-Nuovo of Harrogate Street, Netherfield arranged to meet and abuse the child after conversations they had online.

The 48-year-old travelled from his home in Nottinghamshire to Southampton on May 17 to meet them.

But instead he was met by officers from the South East regional Organised Crime Unit.

It was later found that he had brought items including sweets, condoms, lubricant, wet wipes and baby oil with him.

No real children were involved or harmed in the operation.

Castel-Nuovo was charged with with arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sexual offence on the same day.

Last Friday he pleaded guilty at a hearing at Southampton Crown Court and was sentenced that day to two-and-a-half years imprisonment.

He was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Inspector James Oxley, from SEROCU, said: Castel-Nuovos conviction following a proactive SEROCU investigation reflects our continued priority to protect children from sexual exploitation from those who seek to do them harm.

"HH Judge Burrell commented on the awful nature of the offence and the impact it had on his family, who were present in court. He will now spend time in prison where he can reflect upon his actions.

A Nottinghamshire man who raped a fellow teenager has been jailed.

Kian Allsebrook, 20, carried out the assault on the young woman on 10 September 2020 when he was 18.

A jury found Allsebrook, of Selston, guilty of the rape of a person over the age of 16, following a four-day trial in April.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday Allsebrook was jailed for two years and three months and was made subject of a four-year restraining order.

He must also sign the sex offenders register for the next 10 years.

Det Con Barry Haines said: "It is absolutely incomprehensible that anyone would ever force themselves on someone without their consent, in the manner that he did.

"I'd like to commend the victim for having the courage to share what happened to her with the police, so that we were able to help bring her some justice."

A FORMER primary school teacher has been jailed for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl he was tutoring in Bournemouth.

Sylvanathan Naidoo, 65, deliberately abused his position of trust in a calculated way to groom his victim.

A Bournemouth Crown Court judge told Naidoo that his offending would likely affect the girl for the rest of her life.

The defendant, of Woodborough, Nottingham, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment on Monday, May 23, after he pleaded guilty to eight counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and one count of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration all committed last summer.

Sentencing judge Recorder Don Tait said: You were in a position of trust and you deliberately, in a calculated way, abused that position of trust."

You have lost everything, your family and home but that is your fault entirely," he added.

The court heard no concerns or safeguarding issues had ever been raised about Naidoo during his teaching career, which spanned more than 20 years until he decided to retire in 2012 as he felt he was too old to be a primary school teacher.

The judge imposed a one-year extended licence period as he deemed the defendant to be an offender of particular concern.

Prosecuting, Tom Wright said Naidoo had delivered two tutoring sessions to the victim at her home without any issues before committing the sexual assaults across three separate sessions.

Mr Wright said the activity came to an end when the victims mother came into the room unannounced where the offender was alone with the girl and she saw him in a compromising position.

The court heard he claimed he was administering a massage.

Naidoo left the property a short time later and the victim made disclosures to her parents that day.

Following his arrest, the defendant gave no comment in interview.

Mr Wright said during at least one of the incidents Naidoo made comments asking the girl if she liked what he was doing to her.

It is impossible to know whether this is a case that is going to lead to severe psychological harm, Mr Wright said.

Mitigating, Guy Ladenburg said the defendant, who had no previous convictions, had sincere remorse and his apology for what he did was genuine.

Mr Ladenburg said it was accepted there had been an abuse of trust, while those who had provided character statements about the defendant described their astonishment at the entirely out of character offending.

Recorder Tait made Naidoo subject to a sexual harm prevention order, while the defendant was placed on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

The judge said in his opinion the only mitigation in the case was the defendants guilty pleas.

It is impossible to know what affect your behaviour and your offending have had on this young girl, said Recorder Tait.

Naidoo, who wore a dark suit for the hearing was motionless in the dock as Recorder Tait handed down the sentence.

The judge added: I have no doubt that this will affect her for the rest of her life - how it will affect her nobody knows.

Offences like these against a young girl stay with them for life one way or another.

Dr Strange actress Zara Phythian has been jailed for eight years at Nottingham Crown Court for the historical sexual abuse of a young girl.

Phythians husband Victor Marke was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for jointly abusing the same victim - who was aged between 13 and 15, as well as the indecent assault of a second girl.

Zara Phythian, who is 37-years-old, is known for Accident Man 2 (2022), Tribal Get Out Alive (2020) and Marvel's Doctor Strange (2016) where she starred with Benedict Cumberbatch.

The child was given rum and asked if she wanted to play a game of dare, the trial heard

The alleged abuse began when the child was given rum and Phythian, of Taurus Close, Mansfield, asked her if she wanted to play a game of "dare".

Phythian, an experienced martial artist, dared the child to join in a sex act with her and her husband Victor, 59, of Mavis Avenue, Ravenshead, the trial heard.

The victim, who cannot be named, told the court Marke made threats against her and ordered her to film some of the abuse at the hands of the "Jekyll and Hyde" couple.

Phythian denied having any sexual contact with the victim, who was able to describe a Chinese calligraphy tattoo the actress has near her private parts.

The victim was abused at least 20 times as the offences continued until she was 16, Nottingham court hears

The victim, who came forward after a separate complaint in 2016, described how Marke pretended to be asleep before joining in what she believed was pre-planned abuse alongside Phythian.

Passing sentence, Judge Mark Watson told the couple he believed the start of the sexual abuse of the joint victim had been pre-planned.

The judge told Marke: I regard you as the driving force behind the abuse. You were clearly aware of the first incident but pretended to be asleep.

"This could only have been a ruse agreed in advance."

During the sentencing, the judge also said that Phythians "deviance" was shaped by the influence that Marke had on her from an early age.

Addressing Phythian, the judge added: "Whilst you denied in cross-examination that you were besotted with Victor Marke, on the evidence I have heard I am in no doubt that your deviance was shaped by the influence that he had upon you from an early age.

"I cannot ignore that it started at a time when you were still young."

But the judge added: Having said that, none of this excuses what you did these were choices you made.

"You were by then successful in your own right. You chose to play your part."

As she was led away to the cells, Phythian waved at the public gallery, where a woman shouted: "I love you, Zara."

The 37-year-old, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and Marke, 59, were told they will have to serve at least half their sentences before being considered for parole.

Richard Taylor, aged 55, assaulted multiple boys and girls in Nottingham over a 20 year period mostly by putting his hands under their clothing.

Taylor, of Exchange Road, West Bridgford, was found out when a former victim came forward to share her experiences with police.

A major police investigation followed, with detectives interviewing multiple witnesses and victims many of whom are now adults.

Taylor was first arrested in December 2017 and denied all the allegations against him.

During his initial police interview he provided a brief statement but declined to answer any of the questions posed to him.

He remained silent during further interviews as multiple other victims came forward to share their stories of abuse.

Taylor was eventually found guilty in February by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court of 11 offences two of indecent assault and nine of sexual assault.

He was found not guilty of two further counts of sexual assault.

Appearing at the same venue on Friday, April 29, he was jailed for 13 years.

He was added to the sexual offenders' register for life and was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will tightly restrict his activities when he is released.

Detective Constable Paul Crofts, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: Taylor committed these offences over a very long period of time and seemed to believe that he would never be held to account for what he was doing.

Thanks to the bravery of his victims his offending was exposed. I am delighted for them that they have finally got justice for what happened to them and hope this provides them with at least some degree of closure.

Offences of this nature are never easy to investigate particularly when they happened many years ago. But we always will investigate such allegations to the best of our ability.

Two rapist brothers have been jailed after they committed a horrifying catalogue of sexual assaults and rape over a 25-year period. Andrew Clark, 38, and younger brother Jason Clark, 35 were found guilty of a series of horrific sexual assaults on children last year.

The disgraced pair returned to court to be sentence on Tuesday, April 5, and received hefty jail terms behind bars following their trial last year.

Andrew Clark was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault of a female under 14, indecent assault of a male on five occasions, attempted rape, sexual assault of a child under 13, sexual assault, sexual assault of a child, three counts of rape of a female under 16, rape of a child and indecent assault of a child.

Andrew, formerly of Denewood Crescent, Bilborough, preyed on six vulnerable children. He was told by Judge Mark Watson his offences were on multiple victims over a protracted period, and could only be described as "abhorrent and cruel".

His total sentence was 22-and-a-half years in custody, with a one-year extension on his licence period when he is released. He will be subject to the constraints of a sexual harm prevention order and to signing the sex offenders' register.

Brother Jason, also formerly of Denewood Crescent, Bilborough, was found guilty of sexual offences against two children during that same time.

Jason Clark, a father-of-seven, was convicted of four counts of indecent assault of a female under 14 and two counts of rape on a female under 16. The brothers were also found guilty of jointly raping a child under 16 on two occasions.

Jason Clark received 10 years in prison in total of which he will serve half and the rest on licence on release. The judge said his offending stopped as he moved into adulthood.

Detective Constable Ruth Statham, of Nottinghamshire Police, who has led the investigation, said: “I firstly want to express my thanks to the many victims of these horrific crimes for their bravery in speaking out.

“Their bravery cannot be underestimated and victims who had previously feared speaking out and not felt believed have stood up so selflessly to be cross-examined and take part in this trial to help put a stop to others suffering at the same hands.

“I hope it sends a very strong message to everyone that even though some of the allegations are of age that we will always do everything in our power to bring the offenders to justice - and that no matter how old the offences are no one can outrun their past and their crimes will catch up with them.

“The crimes that were committed by both Andrew and Jason are unspeakable and I can only hope that their convictions will help bring a little peace and closure to their victims.

“This was an incredibly detailed investigation and a lengthy trial but I would like to thank the hard work and commitment of the Crown Prosecution lawyer Anne McCarroll and prosecutor Sally Hobson for their dedication to this case.

“I hope that both Andrew and Jason will now realise that they could never get away with such disgusting crimes and that their inevitable time behind bars will give them a chance to reflect on the cruelty and emotional turmoil they have caused their victims.”

A "manipulative predator" who admitted 19 sexual offences against two teenage boys has been jailed for 12 years.

Daniel Harrison, 44, of Roe Hill, Woodborough, was investigated in 2018 after one victim reported what had happened to him in 2009.

Police said detectives were then alerted to claims of offences committed against the other victim, taking place over several years.

The victims "showed enormous courage", Nottinghamshire Police added.

Police said Harrison initially denied sexually abusing the two boys, claiming they were making it up.

However, he later admitted sexual assault on one boy and 18 offences - seven counts of sexual activity with a child and 11 counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity - against the other.

'Dignity and bravery'

He was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

Harrison was also put on the sex offenders register for life and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

Det Con Christopher Featonby said: "Harrison is a calculating and manipulative sexual predator who groomed and exploited two teenage boys.

"His victims - supported by their families - showed enormous courage by coming forward and giving evidence against him and I would like to thank them both for the dignity and bravery they have shown."

A man has been jailed after he admitted to sexually abusing a child on multiple occasions.

Shaun Mather, aged 23, abused the girl over a number of years before his crimes were reported to the police in May 2020.

When he was subsequently interviewed by officers he declined to comment.

Following a thorough investigation by Nottinghamshire Police he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Friday) Mather, of Alma Hill, Kimberley, was jailed for six years and was also place on the sexual offenders register.

In addition, he was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will tightly restrict his behaviour when he is released.

Detective Constable Emily Bucklow, of Nottinghamshire Polices public protection team, said: The victim in this case suffered considerable distress over a long period of time and I am pleased her abuser has now been brought to justice.

What this case shows is that it doesnt matter how long ago offences happened; when people reports cases like this to us we will investigate them in the same way we always do with professionalism, compassion and a determination to get to the truth.

I hope, therefore, that this case serves as a reminder to other victims that it is never too late to report what happened to them.
