A paedophile sexually assaulted a schoolgirl in a Black Country graveyard after luring her away from her friends. Registered sex offender Robert Osbourne, approached a group of children at a graveyard in Stourbridge on Friday, October 22, 2021.

He sat on a bench with them and made conversation. He then persuaded a 14-year-old to move away from her friends by asking if she would show him where the water tap was in the graveyard at St Mary’s Church in Old Swinford.

He then touched her sexually. The girl reported the incident a dew days later and the 48-year-old, of Green Street, Stourbridge, was spotted in his home area and arrested.

West Midlands Police said it secured CCTV and Osbourne was identified by his sex offender manager. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a female over 13 and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Osbourne was jailed for 35 months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday, November 10. He was also given a new SHPO with ‘strict conditions’.

Det Con Adrian Jackson, from the Sandwell and Dudley Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “We would like to praise the bravery of the girl in reporting Osbourne’s assault. Her courage gives confidence to others to come forward and report sexual abuse.

“You will be listened to, you will be believed, and you will be supported - from your initial contact all the way to court. I would also like to thank her family for their support throughout the case.”

Osbourne was previously convicted of taking pictures up women’s skirts on trains and buses across the West Midlands and jailed for four years in September 2016, with four years on licence. He also had to register on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

But the former tree surgeon’s sentence was reduced to three years and two months, with the extended licence period quashed at an appeal to the Court of Appeal in London in 2017. At the time Judge John Wait said: “The offences, while very disturbing and distressing for the victims, were not of themselves the most serious.”

West Midlands Police urged victims of sex attacks to come forward and said: “If you have been a victim of sexual assault, or think you know someone who has, there are a range of options available to you. Visit our website for more information about your options."

A man has been jailed after he attacked a woman on a canal path in Stourbridge. Luke Hill approached his victim and asked her for sex, a court heard.

The 36-year-old then punched the woman in the face and forced himself on her in a terrifying sexual assault. The woman - whilst fighting back - managed to get the attention of other people who were in the area.

They raced over to help her as Hill, of Lye, Dudley, fled on a bicycle. The attack happened in May last year and Hill was arrested in the same month.

Following a trial, Hill was found guilty of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and sexual assault. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, June 26, and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

DC Laura Turner, who dealt with the case, said: "I'm happy that we've been able to secure justice for the victim in this case and put a dangerous offender behind bars.

"I'd like to commend the victim for her quick thinking and immense bravery, both during this incident and for supporting us with our investigation afterwards."

A Stourbridge paedophile has been locked up for sexually assaulting a teenage boy after "grooming the whole family". Stuart Baker, 36, groomed the child and repeatedly targeted him between 2017 and 2020.

He met the boy's family in 2015 and began to befriend them. Over time he groomed the boy and sexually abused him on numerous occasions. He went as far as moving house to be closer to his victim.

The offences were committed in Warwickshire and Coventry. Baker’s offending came to light in 2020 - while drunk he told a colleague that he was sending sexually explicit messages to an underage boy.

The colleague contacted the NSPCC who alerted the police and Baker was arrested. Baker, of Gauden Road, Stourbridge, was locked up for two years at Warwick Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to four counts of sexual assault. He was also added to the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Following the sentencing, the victim’s family released a statement saying: “Today, after a long time of pain and suffering we finally got justice and although our family can never forget, we can finally start to move on with our lives. We hope this will send out a clear message for anyone suffering abuse or too afraid to speak up.

"Please reach out to someone you trust, go through the process and you will get the justice and closure you deserve. This will never be your fault and you are not to blame, you are a targeted victim of an abuser and this won’t stop until we speak up and save other innocent children from this trauma.”

Detective Inspector Ed Peake from Warwickshire Police said: “Baker is a manipulative and dangerous man; he didn’t just groom his victim, he groomed his whole family. They thought of him as a friend but all the time he was working to satisfy his sexual desires.

“He didn’t just manipulate his victim sexually, but also emotionally; he would tell the victim not to tell anyone what they were doing because he would get into trouble, he would get jealous when the victim talked about having a girlfriend and at one point threatened to commit suicide.

“Sadly in this case the victim didn’t know where to turn which is often the case with young victims of sexual abuse. He was only a young boy who probably never fully understood what was being done to him. However, thanks to an alert colleague raising the alarm, Baker’s offending came to light and he was brought to justice.

“I hope this conviction sends a message to other children who were or are being groomed and abused that there are people who will listen. The hardest step to take is telling the first person, but there are people out there who will listen and help and support you. It is never your fault. We will investigate and do everything in our power to bring dangerous offenders to justice and get you the support you need.

“I would like to commend the victim and his family for the bravery they have shown in helping ensure Baker is held to account for his actions. His offending over a number of years has left a lasting impact on the victim and I hope that this sentence helps to give him some closure.”

A grandad who confessed he was attracted to children after asking a man posing online as a schoolgirl to strip naked for him has been locked up. Married man Kenneth Rock was duped into thinking he was sending 'highly sexualised' messages to a 13-year-old girl but he was actually talking to a man hunting for criminals.

The 71-year-old told her she was 'cute' before boasting about kissing another teenager at a social club. The convicted fraudster also had a 'long-standing habit' of scouring the internet for vile child sex abuse pictures and was caught with a secret stash in his Black Country home.

But the paedophile blamed his sick offending on his 'sexless' marriage after telling police he had been 'bored' at home. Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how a man from an online child protection group was running a decoy account pretending to be a schoolgirl on social media platform Twoo. 

Rock made contact with the profile in December 2020, with the girl telling him she was 13 and the defendant replying "wow you look good". He asked if she had a boyfriend before telling her she looked 'cute' in her profile picture and requesting more photographs.

Prosecutor Jamie Scott said: "[Rock said] he doubted her mother would allow them to meet because he would be perceived, in his own words, as a pervert." The sex offender said he would teach the girl how to kiss and that it would be their 'secret' before asking about sex education and whether he could be her teacher.

He claimed he kissed other girls of a similar age, including a 14-year-old girl at his local social club. The defendant, of Hinchliffe Avenue Coseley, went on to say he wanted her to wear shorter skirts and continued to ask for photographs, including in her uniform.

Rock also made lewd comments and said he wanted to be the 'first guy'. The court heard how the convict told the girl he wanted to meet but Coronavirus restrictions at the time meant he could not travel.

Rock cancelled a meeting the pair had arranged as he was living in a Tier 3 area during the pandemic but continued with his sexualised comments.

He said he could not stop thinking about them being together and suggested picking the girl from her school. Rock - who has a 20-year-old conviction for benefit fraud - messaged the girl over a three-month period.

He was caught when the child protection group conducted 'impressive amateur detective work' and confronted Rock at his then-home in Parry Road, Wolverhampton, on November 11 last year. His wife answered the door before Rock admitted his offending, the court heard on September 29.

Mr Scott added: "He admitted he had been talking to the girl. He admitted that it was wrong for him to do and he admitted that he was attracted to children."

Police arrested the sex offender, who then claimed he only messaged the girl because he was 'bored' and denied having any intention to meet up with her. Officers searched his home and discovered a mobile with Twoo messages, along with a PC tower in a garage shed which contained 476 indecent images within a folder called "Ken's pics".

They later discovered he had been searching for child pornography - featuring children as young as two - for seven years from 2013 until just two months before his arrest, Mr Scott said. Simon Hans, defending, said Rock has been impotent since 2017.

His wife has kicked him out of the family home but the estranged couple is still in contact and could reconcile. Rock has lost most of his friends, while his children and grandchildren have 'walked away' from him.

Mr Hans added: "He appears to have turned towards this type of conduct as a result of the fact that his marriage became sexless. It first became sexless because his wife was no longer interested.

Rock admitted attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child, attempting to cause or incite a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity and three counts of making indecent photographs of children.

Sentencing, Judge Barry Berlin said Rock's messages were 'highly sexualised' and jailed the defendant for 16 months for his 'awful offending'.

A DUDLEY cop who persuaded a teenage girl he met while investigating an incident at a college to send him naked photographs of herself has been jailed for nine months.

Pc Paul Davies had earned considerable praise during his near 30 year service with the West Midlands Force for helping youngsters avoid crime and lead law abiding lives.

But Davies who worked as a Young Persons Officer with Dudley Police took "leave of his senses" after he started to engage in sexual phone chats with the 17-year-old student.

The 57-year-old officer got the girls details while probing reports of a suspicious male on the College campus and after their phone chats he got her to send him five photographs of her posing naked.

Davies, a married man with two adult sons, was rumbled after the girl was spoken to by police and she provided them with details of what had gone on, said Alex Warren prosecuting.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Davies who was named West Midland Beat Officer of the year in 2009 was arrested and the photographs were recovered from his mobile.

Judge James Burbidge QC told Davies it was serious offending because of the disparity in their ages adding, "It was not an abuse of trust but you were in a very trusting position."

The judge said Davies who showed no reaction as he was lead away to begin his jail term had clearly worked hard in the past to help young people avoid crime and to lead structured lives.

But he said it was clear he had encouraged the creation of the photographs - it was all at his instigation and he had "groomed" the teenager to a degree.

Davies, he went on, had attended the college to investigate an incident having been in a position of safeguarding anyone on the premises and he had spoken to the girl and another 17-year old.

"You well knew her age because you had taken her personal details," said the judge but he had then clearly decided to take things further.

Davies, a former member of the Wrens Nest and Milking Bank Neighbourhood team admitted making the indecent images. between March 12 and April 15 last year.

Mr Warren said it was not suggested Davies who left the police force after his arrest had used his position to put pressure on the teenage girl.

He said a friend of the girl had also encouraged her to go along with it but she had engaged with Davies in his professional capacity.

Simon Hunka, defending, said Davies, of Thoresby Croft, Upper Gornal, had initiated the sexual chat which it was accepted was "thoroughly inappropriate behaviour."

He was ashamed of his actions having fallen from grace. "He was a local police officer for the area for many, many years and the uncomfortable reality is that people who looked up to him now find it difficult to meet his eye."

Mr Hunka said Davies had quite literally lost everything. His standing in the community had gone and he was finding it difficult to find another job.

He said Davies had run programmes at schools and colleges in the Dudley area for young people and he read out references from families where the former police officer had gone beyond the call of duty to assist their children.
