Cook, of Shore in Arbroath, was placed on the sex offenders register for three years, ordered to complete a programme aimed at rehabilitating sex criminals and had his mobile phone forfeited.

A teenage predator who caused prolonged psychological trauma to his child victims has been jailed.

Richard Box, from Arbroath, raped a student and abused three under-age girls as part of a horrific course of conduct.

A judge ruled the 19-year-olds disgusting behaviour escalated over a 14-month period at locations throughout Scotland.

Box showed no emotion as he was handed a nine year extended sentence at Dundee High Court.

Appearing via video link, the teenager yawned and stretched out his arms during Tuesday mornings hearing.

He was told he would spent three-and-a-half years behind bars and will then be released on licence in the community if he offends again he will be returned to prison for the rest of his term for five years and six months.

Judge Lord Lake told Box he would have been handed a tougher sentence if he was older.

Pinned against tree

Box was convicted of seven sexual offences following a trial at the High Court in Livingston.

He engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old at locations, including an alleyway, in Brechin in July 2021.

He also sent the same girl a recording of himself performing a solo sex act and induced her to send him sexual images.

Around the same time, farm worker Box sexually assaulted a 14-year-old at a public park in Brechin.

He seized her by the breasts and buttocks after grabbing her by the neck and pinning her against a tree.

He went on to have sex with another 14-year-old at an address in Aberdeen on May 21 2022.

Box next raped a 17-year-old student at Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, on August 27 2022.

He targeted her again pulling down her top and performing a sex act in front of her after getting the train to her home town of Bathgate.

Victims were vulnerable

Judge Lord Lake told Box: All sexual crimes are serious but three of your victims were children.

He said one of his young victims could not and did not give consent.

You then went on to have sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old.

In addition to her vulnerability derived from her age, she had been drinking at the time.

Your next offence was rape.

The judge said: There were four victims of your crimes in a period of just 14 months.

There was an escalating picture throughout that time.

You pursued your own gratification by preying on those who by reason of age and consumption of alcohol were vulnerable.

He added: It is significant that you still exercised no control and carried on offending when you were on bail in respect of the earlier charges.

Girls living with trauma

The judge told Box: I have considered the victim impact statement and the psychological trauma sustained by each of your victims, which continued long after the attacks.

The way it affected their lives in so many ways is only too evident.

The court heard Box maintained his innocence and now claims he thought all of his victims were 16.

It is clear you knew their ages, Lord Lake said.

This was a clear indication that you have not faced up to what you have done.

This was not a one-off impulsive decision but a course of conduct over several months with different victims.

The judge noted Box told a social worker it seemed better his last victim lived some distance away from him.

That to me suggests an element of planning.

The sentence I impose must protect the public from the risk you present, whilst taking account of your age.

At the same time, I must impose a sentence that reflects the gravity of your crime.

Only a custodial sentence is appropriate.

Rape ordeal

The rape survivor, who cannot be named, told the jury Box had messaged her when she was in Edinburgh with friends.

He asked if he could join them, before taking a train from Arbroath.

Later, Box asked to chum his victim to the toilets at Waverley Station.

He grabbed her hand and dragged her into bushes, before dropping his shorts and underwear and asking her to perform a sex act on him.

The teenager initially agreed but did not like it and pushed Box away.

He did not stop, despite her protests and kept pushing her head towards him.

She told jurors: I was really shocked.

I was stunned. I told him I didnt want to do this maybe three times or something.

Box, who was placed on the Sex Offenders Register following his conviction, had urged the judge lock me up, please during his trial because he was fed up getting up at 5.30am to travel to and from Livingston each day.

He was earlier convicted of booting a teenager in the face as he lay on the pavement during a vicious assault in Perth in June 2021.

For that, he was ordered to pay his victim 400 compensation.

An Arbroath thief who pilfered pants from washing lines in nocturnal raids will be supervised for two years.

Graham Orrock will be on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period, despite pleas his crimes were not sexually motivated.

Under the cover of darkness in his Angus hometown last summer, Orrock amassed a stockpile of worn pants, bras, swimwear and other clothing, some belonging to children.

His weird haul also included an extra-small Arbroath FC home top.

When Orrock was arrested, police found him wearing a pair of black women’s underwear.

The 36-year-old told police the juvenile items were to fit his blow-up sex doll.

Six raids ‘out of character’

Last month, a sheriff ruled Orrock should be subject to the sexual offender notification requirements.

Social workers were ordered to prepare a report exploring Orrock’s background to inform sentencing last week.

During his supervision period, the thief must comply with a drug testing conduct requirement with Angus Integrated Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service and complete the Tay Project, aimed at rehabilitating sex offenders.

Sheriff Krista Johnston said: “It’s clear from that report that there are aspects that require to be addressed.

“It is for that reason that I’m persuaded that I can deal with this matter by imposing a community payback order.”

She also fined Orrock £280 for separate breaches of bail conditions.

Solicitor Billy Rennie again objected to his client’s registration order.

He said: “The offences, the thefts, almost seem to be somewhat out of character for his record.”

Orrock raided washing lines six times.

Pants pinched

Orrock, of Spittalfield Place, targeted four different gardens in and around the seaside town’s centre between June and August last summer.

The first was a ground floor flat in Hill Street on June 23, where the owner had hung washing, including three pairs of black Marks & Spencer size 10 pants.

CCTV caught Orrock entering the garden just before 3.30am wearing gloves and carrying a bag.

He inspected the laundry, rejected a pair of blue boys pants, then stuffed the woman’s knickers into his bag.

He returned on July 31 and made off with a bikini and boy’s beachwear.

On July 19, he trousered two bras from a line on Hayswell Road and returned on August 1 to steal a child’s one-piece swimsuit and six pairs of women’s knickers.

At East Abbey Street on August 12 he took denim shorts, a t-shirt, a matching red and black women’s underwear set and from next door the following night, a pair of girl’s pants, aged 6-7 and women’s black and pink pyjamas.

The pervert also took an extra-small 2021-2022 Arbroath FC home top.

Police raided his home and found his haul, which he initially said had been bought from a charity shop and was to fit his blow-up sex doll.

‘Underlying sexual deviancy’

Forfar Sheriff Court previously heard a debate over whether Orrock should be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Mr Rennie said his client did not get sexual gratification from the thefts themselves.

At that hearing, the sheriff said: “It’s not deviant to be a cross dresser. It’s not deviant to have a sex toy doll.

“But Mr Orrock, you articulated that the theft of these items was sexually motivated.

“Therefore, my opinion is the offences do have a significant sexual element.

“I consider that the behaviour is behaviour which is indicative of underlying sexual deviancy.”

When he was 23, Orrock was jailed for six years at Glasgow High Court after blinding a Kirriemuir pensioner with his own walking stick.

He was then locked up for two years and eight months after he walked into his father’s workplace and broke his jaw after demanding he top up his electric meter.

A highly dangerous sex offender has been banned from using dating apps for the next 15 years in order to protect potential victims.

Predatory paedophile John Johnstone was jailed for 30 months and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life at Dundee Sheriff Court. A highly restrictive Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also imposed on Johnstone for 15 years - including a ban on using social media networks and dating sites.

Johnstone - who built a secret den behind a fireplace in his home as the centre of his sex offending behaviour - was described as being "very high risk." He admitted that between 17 May and 28 July 2020 he intentionally caused a 14-year-old boy to look at sexual images by sending him child abuse material.

He admitted that between 21 May and 27 July 2020 he made the same boy participate in sexual activity by forcing him to send pictures of his genitals to Johnstone.

Sheriff Paul Brown told him: "This is an instance of serious sexual offending, against a background of a record of similar offending. There is a degree of overlap with the previous offence.

"However, it is clear to me that this is a distinct matter that carries a greater degree of culpability and harm. There is no alternative to custody. I also consider that to protect the public from serious sexual harm I have to impose a Sexual Offences Prevention Order."

The SOPO severely limits Johnstone's online activities and bans him from having any unsupervised cntact with anyone under the age of 18. Sheriff Brown banned Johnstone from using social networks until after his 60th birthday and banned him from taking up "any hobbies" which might bring him into contact with children.

Counsel Iain Smith, defending, said: "He is assessed as being at very high risk of further sexual offending. It is so high, in the social worker's conclusion, that it is indicative of a well-established pattern of behaviour that requires corrective intervention."

The dark web beast had previously been jailed for 40 months in 2021 after he filmed himself abusing a young girl, before sharing it with other paedophiles. In that case, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael described Johnstone as "a committed user and maker of indecent images of children."

Farm worker Johnstone built a secret den behind a fireplace to store his vile haul of child pornography and used the dark web to distribute material worldwide. Evil Johnstone bragged to social workers that he had done no "actual harm" to the girl because she had been asleep while he was abusing her.

Sheriff Carmichael also placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life and made him the subject of a five-year SOPO. That has now been trebled in duration.

The sheriff said: "You went to some lengths to try and hide computers and changed sim cards regularly, presumably to try and evade detection for what you were doing. You were a user of the dark web and employed quite sophisticated software kit to facilitate that.

"It seems to me you are a committed user and maker of indecent images of children and I see no alternative to a custodial sentence."

Solicitor Sarah Russo, defending, said: "He tells me he deeply regrets his actions. It is his position in the report that he wasn't doing any actual harm to the child because they were sleeping."

Johnstone, 45, took photos of himself carrying out sex acts and posing with sex toys next to a sleeping four-year-old girl. He then put them on paedophile sites on the dark web and asked others to send similar material back to him in exchange.

The court heard how he scoured Facebook and other social media to collect more than 400 images of another young girl he knew and had a fixation with. The twisted labourer was also caught with extreme animal porn and thousands of child porn images, and he had superimposed a head shot of one child onto a woman's body in an explicit sexual image.

Detective Chief Inspector Richie Banks, of Police Scotland's National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: "John Johnstone is a dangerous and predatory individual whose levels of hidden criminal activity over a number of years show he was not only a risk to children in Scotland, but worldwide.

"Online offenders may think they are anonymous, and they may not comprehend the terrible, devastating and lifelong impact their actions have on children.

"But there is no excuse for their actions. Online images of child abuse and exploitation are not virtual, they show the very real abuse of a real child."

A pervert pensioner from Arbroath who tried to lure a vulnerable child to his caravan has been given six months to improve his health if he wants to avoid a jail term.

Child sex offender James Hutchison was told he may be given a community sentence if his health improves after recently undergoing major heart surgery.

Hutchison, 68, targeted the childs family in a bid to lure the six-year-old away from his unsuspecting father.

Sheriff Gregor Murray said: Im obliged to take into account the whole circumstances of your case before sentencing.

I cant do that because of your recent surgery.

I would rather you return to full health to allow the social work department to assess whether theres a community-based option as an alternative to custody.

I will make it clear to you this is a case which crosses the custodial threshold and I need to see if theres a suitable alternative to that.

Bail was continued and sentence was deferred until November.

Sinister undertones to behaviour

Dundee Sheriff Court was told the child had suffered a life of trauma and was craving attention when Hutchison targeted him and his family.

The boys father had become friendly with Hutchison but was unaware he had previously been jailed for seven years for serious sexual assaults on children.

Hutchison invited them both to his holiday caravan in Banff and told the father he would take the boy away to a play park to give him a break.

Sheriff Murray said there were clear undertones to Hutchisons behaviour which made them sinister when he was subject to a sexual offenders order.

Hutchison, of Ladyloan, Arbroath, admitted breaching an order imposed in the year 2000, which banned him from being alone with anyone under the age of 18.

He admitted approaching, communicating and associating with a six-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at an address in the Angus town.

Multiple breaches of sexual offenders order

Fiscal depute Lora Apostolova told the court the boys father befriended Hutchison and would deliver his shopping as he felt the accused was being exploited.

He was convicted at the High Court in Airdrie in May 1988 and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

He has four convictions for breaching the terms of his sexual offenders order.

In 2000 there were concerns that young males were entering his home.

The order was granted and in October 2020 it was extended for a further two years.

Ms Apostolova told the court the boy had suffered trauma throughout his whole life, craved attention and the company of anyone who showed him nurture.

She said social workers were involved with the family when Hutchison invited them to join him for a break in his holiday home in the Highlands in autumn 2020.

Father unaware of offenders history

When he was quizzed, the boy said he knew Hutchison as he played cards on the carpet with him and knew him from driving around the town on a scooter.

The father was unaware of the conditions the accused was subject to.

He said he and the child would regularly attend play parks and the accused would join them.

The accused asked if he and the child would go away to the caravan in Banff.

He said he would take the child to the play park to give the father a break.

Sheriff Murray said: The Crown narrative strongly suggests you formed a friendship with a vulnerable family.

An Arbroath sex offender who molested two girls, 20 years apart, has been jailed.

Scott Galloway, 63, sexually assaulted his first victim when she was just 12 at an address in Dundee.

His second, who he violated two decades later, was 13.

First offender Galloway, of Bank Street, Arbroath, was found guilty after trial of committing a lewd, libidinous and indecent practice towards a girl at an address in Dundee for about a year and a half during the 1970s.

He was also found guilty of using libidinous, lewd and indecent practices and behaviour towards another girl, then aged over 12 and under 16.

One of his victims, who woke in the middle of the night to find Galloway molesting her, recalled how she locked herself in a cupboard to stop him from attacking her again.

Tried to kiss first victim

His first victim was only 12 when he touched her inappropriately at his flat in Dundee in the mid-1970s, the trial heard.

He told her to pretend I am your boyfriend.

Giving evidence, the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she woke to find Galloway trying to kiss her.

I was in bed, he was beside me. He tried to kiss me.

He asked me to pretend I was with my boyfriend.

I cant remember anything past that.

I did not like it at all.

Second victim slept in locked cupboard

His second victim recalled how, in the mid-1990s, she had woken in her bed in Aberdeen with Galloway crouched beside her.

He was touching her inappropriately under the covers.

I felt something moving between my thighs, she told the court.

I then quickly realised there was a hand between my legs.

After a moment I woke up. He was kneeling at the side of my bed. His hands were under the blanket.

He said I was making a noise and had come to check on me.

She said: He then came back 20 minutes later and I sat right up and asked him why he had come back into my room.

The girl slept in another room the next night, inside a cupboard which had a lock on it.

I was scared he was going to come back to the room again.

I put the chain lock across the cupboard door.

Prison appropriate

Sentencing Galloway to three months in prison, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said he could only punish the sex offender with the methods available at the time.

Both of these offences, committed by you, happened some time ago the first in the 1970s and the second in the 1990s.

But I do not wish to be dismissive of the consequences for your victims.

Your behaviour, she will throughout her life, have to revisit.

You were in a position of trust.

There was a much more significant age difference between you and the girl in the second charge.

The maximum sentence which could have been imposed at the time is three months in custody. It seems appropriate.

Defence solicitor Grant Bruce, in mitigation, said: The offences took place some time ago.

The risk assessment carried out appears to show a low risk of Galloway committing further offences.

Galloway was sent to prison for three months and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

A lecturer has been jailed after threatening not to submit a students coursework unless he sent him a naked photo.

Lewis Bryan, 29, also sent a series of indecent Snapchat messages to two former students.

He was this week sentenced to 27 months in prison at Dundee Sheriff Court and was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.

Bryan was found guilty after a trial in February of two charges of coercing the men to look at sexual images and one charge of attempted extortion between January 2017 and March 2018.

As he was led away to the cells, he said: I didnt do it.

The court heard Bryan tried to blackmail one of the men by saying he wouldnt send coursework to the SQA unless he sent him indecent material.

He committed the offences while he taught the men then teenage school pupils at Dundee and Angus Colleges Arbroath campus.

The court heard one of the men felt traumatised.

Jurors were also shown a screenshot selfie of Bryan with the caption send nudes (obviously) which one of the victims said Bryan sent to him while he was teaching.

One of the victims said previously that Bryan, of Arbroath, sent lewd images with a partner, using emojis to cover his genitals.

The ex-pupil revealed he was able to identify Bryan in some photos by tattoos on his body from TV series Twin Peaks and video game BioShock that he had shown students in class.

Bryan, who was working as a chef before being jailed, returned to the dock for sentencing.

Paul Parker-Smith, defending, said Bryan continued to deny his guilt.

Sheriff Carmichael said: These charges are so serious that theres no option but to impose a custodial sentence.

Dundee and Angus College said after Bryans conviction that he had left in 2018 and declined to comment further.

A disc jockey who subjected a man and woman with Down's syndrome to sex attacks in Moray has been jailed for five years.

Scott Sinclair, 41, who lived in Elgin at the time, was convicted by a jury.

A judge rejected a defence plea to spare Sinclair a prison sentence and told him that custody was "inevitable".

Lord Glennie said: "I cannot regard this as a case where you could have reasonably believed they were consenting to the sexual acts."

Sinclair, who ran a DJ and karaoke business, had taken part in events organised for people with learning difficulties.

He earlier denied three sex charges during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Sinclair was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
