Brighouse man jailed after repeated breaches of Sexual Harm Prevention Order at GP surgery
A 40-year-old man has been jailed after repeatedly breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that barred him from attending GP surgeries without a chaperone.
Christopher Williams, of St Martin’s View in Brighouse, received a five-year order to protect the public and healthcare staff. Within weeks of it being imposed he committed four breaches, resulting in a 32-week suspended sentence in March this year. Three months later he breached it again by visiting Rydings Hall surgery in Brighouse twice on the same day without a chaperone.
Prosecutor Sarah Tailor told Bradford Crown Court that during the visits Williams spoke loudly about needing treatment for a sexually transmitted disease. The practice manager contacted police.
Williams has previous convictions. He received a community order after sexually assaulting a woman and another person, and in 2025 was given a conditional caution for exposing himself to another woman.
He refused to appear via prison video link, so Judge Christopher Smith proceeded in his absence. Williams admitted the two June breaches and was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment for those offences, plus an additional 24 weeks activated from the suspended sentence.
Judge Smith said the 2025 conditional caution had done little to deter further sexual offending and described Williams’s previous convictions as “worrying”. A pre-sentence report indicated he presented a “high level of risk” to the public as well as himself.
“This is offending which is so serious that only immediate custody can be justified and it is the only way in which his risk can be managed,” the judge said. The existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order will continue until 2031.
