A man has been jailed for 23 years after abusing five victims and attempting to cover up his crimes using fake evidence.

Ian Perrin, 64, of Tremont Street, Wolverhampton, came to the attention of Bedfordshire Police after one of the victims reported that she had been sexually abused by him.

Following the disclosure, officers from the Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) unit launched an investigation and Perrin was arrested.

As enquiries progressed, four further victims came forward and reported abuse dating back to the late 1990s.

During his trial, Perrin forged text messages claiming to be from one of the victims, falsely stating that accusations against him had been fabricated. Investigators quickly established that the messages were not genuine.

Following a trial at Luton Crown Court, Perrin was found guilty of all 11 offences on Thursday 23 May.

The charges included rape, indecent assault, gross indecency, child cruelty and neglect, and perverting the course of justice.

He was sentenced last week (23 July) at Luton Crown Court to 23 years' imprisonment.

Perrin was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register until further order.

“I commend each victim for coming forward and for the courage they showed in speaking out during what was a very difficult trial.
