A rapist who was swiftly hunted down after attacking a victim in Huddersfield, has been sentenced to more than 20 years
Ismail Hussain, aged 28, of no fixed address in Huddersfield, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today (Thursday 18 June ) after being found guilty of two offences of rape in Huddersfield town centre last year.
He was jailed for 15 years with an extended licence period of eight years making for a 23 year total sentence.
Safeguarding detectives have praised the courage of the victim in both reporting the offending and supporting the prosecution.
Officers attended in the New Street area on 2 August 2025 after the victim, a man in his 20s, reported being approached and then seriously sexually assaulted by an unknown man in an alleyway near there.
The offending had taken place between 5am and 5.30am that morning.
Fast paced enquiries, including examination of CCTV, led to Hussain being identified within hours of the report, and then located and arrested in the early hours of 3 August.
He was detained in police custody and charged to appear before court on August 6.
Hussain was found guilty of two counts of rape following a trial in February.
Detective Inspector Jenny Haigh of Kirklees Police, said:
“We welcome the sentencing of Hussain at court for what was dreadful and predatory sexual offending.
“He targeted his victim by approaching him and then subjecting him to the very serious offences he has now been convicted of carrying out.
“I want to praise the huge courage of the victim in both reporting this appalling offence and then supporting a prosecution through the courts.
“We fully appreciate just how difficult it can be to disclose being a victim of sexual offending but can promise we do all we can to support victims who come forwards
“All reports are investigated by specially trained safeguarding detectives who can also signpost victims to any other support services they may need."
