Description
Police who responded urgently to a tip that a man had online discussion about the rape of a child had uncovered extremely concerning and depraved offences, a court heard today.
Andrew Baugh, 41, of Gresford Road, Llay, Wrexham, an engineer with no previous convictions, was jailed for seven years at Mold crown court. He admitted indecent images charges and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecuting barrister Dafydd Roberts said 150,000 pictures or movies that had been discovered on devices werent categorised by police, but there was a large amount of child sexual abuse material. Distressed youngsters had been tortured.
Baugh told police he had entered into online chat on Kik of a fantasy nature.
Oliver King, defending, said there was a letter of apology from Baugh who had received counselling from a psychotherapist.
On any view these are deeply, deeply unpleasant offences and the defendant is entirely realistic about the sentence hes going to receive, the barrister said.
He wants me to convey his remorse to the court. Hes deeply ashamed of what hes done.
Judge Nicola Jones told Baugh there were real victims in the case and the offences were extremely concerning and depraved.
A sexual harm prevention order, with a string of conditions, will last indefinitely. He must also register as a sex offender.
