An already convicted sex offender from Exeter has avoided a prison sentence after he was caught with hundreds of child sexual images including many showing the rape or torture of young children
Robert Graham Barter, 37 of Stemson Avenue, Pinhoe, Exeter appeared at Exeter Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and for breaching a previous sexual offences prevention order dating back to 2011
The court was told that Barter had collected the images of over a five year period.
Police analysed the images and found 101 images in category A, 677 images in category B, and 274 images in category C.
Barter was also convicted of a sexual offence in 2011
The judge handed Barter a 32 week prison sentence which was suspended for two years.
He was placed under a curfew for four weeks and a sexual Harm Prevention Order, including prohibition against using any device capable of accessing the internet was also imposed.
Barter is also required to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period.
