A faster way to find what you're looking for

Our improved directory search makes it easier to find records, combine filters and see the most relevant matches first.

·2 min read

Searching the Offenders.org.uk directory is now much more flexible. We've improved how records are matched, how results are ordered and how filters work together, making it easier to find useful information even when you don't know the exact wording of a record.

Search using the details you know

You no longer need to enter a name or phrase exactly as it appears in the directory. Search can match words across names, cities, locations, descriptions, record details and dates.

For example, you can search for a surname alongside a city. The words can appear in different parts of the record and in any order. Add more words to narrow the results, or remove a word to broaden your search.

Relevant matches come first

We've improved result ranking so that the strongest matches are easier to spot. Exact full-name matches are prioritised, followed by names that begin with your search. Matches in names and cities also help determine the order of results.

You can still choose between Latest Convicted and Latest Added, without resetting the filters you've already selected.

Filters that work together

The city filter now works alongside keyword searching and the new Sex filter, which offers All records, Male and Female.

City counts update to reflect your current keyword and sex selections, helping you see how many matching records are available in each location. Cities without matches remain listed with a count of zero.

No more starting over between pages

Your search term, city, sex filter and sorting preferences remain in place as you browse result pages. The displayed total and page navigation reflect the same filters as the results themselves.

If your search returns nothing, you'll see a clearer message with the option to Clear filters and try again.

Give the improved search a try

Start with a name, place or keyword, then refine the results using the filters. Searches don't currently correct misspellings, so a shorter search term may help if you're unsure of the spelling.
