Chris Hatherley viewed live streams of the indecent material as he chatted to other users of an online application and requested videos of children crying due the sexual assaults they were subjected to.

In some instances, the child being abused was a baby and in others was aged between two and three-years-old, Southampton Crown Court heard.

Police searched the 35-year-old's home following online information, seizing his computers and mobile phone.

Although no indecent images were found, Jane Terry, prosecuting, told the court a disturbing set of communications with other users of apps such as 'Kick' were present.

In some of the conversations, Miss Terry said, Hatherley would comment on how much he enjoyed the material and also what acts he wanted to carry out on the abused himself.

He was subsequently arrested.

Miss Terry added: "In his interview Hatherley said he had a huge problem and was crying. He said at the time he was under the influence of drugs. He explained he did not know why it started."

Joanne Chester, mitigating, told the court at the time of his offending, which took place between January and March 2017, Hatherley was in the depths of drug addiction.

She said Hatherley was "ashamed by his clearly depraved behaviour" and had sought help to stop his drug addiction and his offending.

The moment Hatherley opted to turn his life around was when he woke up in London in a flat with people he did not know, Miss Chester said.

Judge Nicholas Rowland said: "These images represent dreadful abuse of babies and children. It's serious.

"And it's because of people like you that they are made because an audience wants to watch it."

Hatherley, of Arnheim Road, Bassett, pleaded guilty to encouraging or assisting the commission of an either way offence.

He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, which includes the requirement to complete at least 45 days rehabilitation activity requirements and 150 hours unpaid work.

A sexual harm prevention order was made, which banned Hatherley from using a chat room for 10 years.

Father jailed for having sex with school girl in New Forest car park

A HAMPSHIRE father has been jailed for having sex with a school girl after driving her to a secluded New Forest car park.

Stephen Nicholson had been a bus driver transporting students from a school in the Test Valley area ten years ago, when he began to build a rapport with a number of female students.

Southampton Crown Court heard how Nicholson then started to exchange messages with one pupil, that quickly then grew into flirting.

Then, on one afternoon in the summer of 2008, Nicholson, who was 27 at the time, picked up the student in his car and took her to a secluded car park in Minstead, where the two had consensual sex. He then took her to her usual address so that it seemed as though she had caught the bus as usual.

Nicholson denied the charges of three counts of sexual activity with a child, but was found guilty by a jury after a trial.

Nicholson, of Woodland Close, Southampton, had been a driver for the school, with his job listed as taking students home from the school back home across the county.

Prosecuting, Unyime Davies told the court how the girl, who can't be identified for legal reasons, "didn't know how to handle the attention from an older man".

She said: "Mr Nicholson, in a position of trust, began to build a rapport with a group of girls. This quickly turned to flirting with one student and a number of messages were sent. Some of these were recovered from an old SIM card of the victim.

"On one afternoon, Mr Nicholson then arranged to pick her up in his car and drove to a secluded car park in Minstead where the two engaged in sexual activities.

"There was also grooming against the victim before the offences. Significant planning was also needed to establish how much time the defendant would have before the bus reached the victim's home."

Mitigating for Nicholson, barrister Sarah Jones told the court that the now 37-year-old has built a family and a new life in the ten years since the offences took place.

She said: "The life of Mr Nicholson's wife and family is now going to come crumbling down. One of the hardest things for them is to not be able to tell their children, who are aged two, five and seven, when their father is going to be coming home."

Presiding, Judge Peter Henry said that had Nicholson pleaded guilty, he would have received a shorter time behind bars.

He said: "It's a great shame you did not plead guilty to these matters, particularly after the messages were recovered. I agree that there was planning involved in this, and for that I am sentencing you to four years and three months to be served concurrently."

A PAEDOPHILE found with more than 70,000 indecent images of children covertly filmed an elderly woman using the toilet, a court heard.

Ronald Dear placed the camera inside the victim's toilet while he was decorating a home in Southampton.

The 60-year-old's four year reign of viewing of illegal and explicit pornography was ended after police received reports he had downloaded an single indecent image of a child, Southampton Crown Court was told.

When police searched his computer equipment they found thousands of moving and still images, including many that prosecutor Martyn Booth described as "depicting the most serious type of images you could imagine".

Also found were two videos of the elderly victim on the toilet, which were made around 10 years ago.

Mr Booth said that some of the images involved children as young as three months old "crying in pain" from the abuse they were subjected to.

After he was arrested on July 2, 2017, Dear gave a no-comment interview but did state he was not attracted to children – a claim labelled "ludicrous" by Mr Booth.

The images were found on a number of devices, which, when examined, revealed he had been downloading images since September 2013.

The court heard that Dear, previously of good character, was also attracted to older women and would use the 'dark web' to access material.

Dear pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images, ranging between categories A to C, and a charge of voyeurism when he appeared for the first time at Southampton Magistrates' Court in April.

Susan Ridge, mitigating, said Dear was at "a low risk of reoffending" and had "suffered with depression after struggling to cope with the arrest and the reality of what he has done".

Judge Christopher Parker QC said that due to the "seriousness" and "huge" amount of images and his acts of voyeurism, he had no option but to send Dear immediately to prison.

Dear, of Wryneck Close, Southampton, was jailed for 44 months imprisonment. He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely and will have to notify the police of any changes to his address for the remainder of his life.

A perverted pensioner has avoided a prison sentence after he groomed what he believed was an 11-year-old girl.

Charles Edwin March, of Southampton appeared at Southampton Crown Court where he admitted sexual communication with a child.

The court was told that March contacted a online profile that portrayed itself as an 11-year-old girl. However, the profile belonged to online child protection team 'SKID'.

The messages sent by March were highly sexually explicit from the outset. He also sent a number of sexual images of himself.

March arranged to meet the girl for sexual acts and possible full sexual penetration, but the meet failed to take place.

Members from SKID visited March at his address and confronted him over the messages. He made a full admission on video. Police were called and March was aressted.

The judge handed March 16 Months Imprisonment Suspended for 2 years

He was given a 10 Year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was told that he must register as a sex offender for a period of 10 Years.

A PAEDOPHILE carried out a string of attacks on two children while he was being investigated for possessing indecent images.

Timothy Tonks raped a seven-year-old girl over four years and videoed himself carrying out the disturbing assaults.

Police initially arrested Tonks for possessing indecent images of children but after he was released under investigation, officers were shocked to spot the 49-year-old on images on a phone carrying out the acts on the child involved.

During his second interview with police, Tonks new mobile was examined and another seven-year-old boy was found to have been sexually assaulted by Tonks with images once again captured on the device.

Tonks, from Southampton but whose address was given as HMP Bristol, smiled as he was given a life sentence when he appeared at Southampton Crown Court.

Daniel Sawyer, prosecuting, said Tonks had been downloading indecent and extreme pornographic images on to devices at his home in the city in September.

When he was arrested, Tonks told officers he was a paedophile and that they would find more indecent images involving children on his devices.

Mr Sawyer: While carrying out the investigation of Tonks computer for the images, the officer was shocked to recognise the defendant in some of the images.

During the full forensic examination it appeared that many of the images involved the sexual abuse of a child by Tonks.

What was clear from the videos was that Tonks was essentially directing the child and telling her what to do.

Tonks had another interview with officers about what they had found, during which time he answered no comment to all questions and his new phone was seized.

On this device, more images involving Tonks were found this time with the young boy.

The court heard that since the investigation began the images involving the child abuse carried out by Tonks had made their way on to the dark web, although Mr Sawyer said it was unclear who uploaded and distributed them. The court was told Tonks had attempted to kill himself by overdosing as he struggled to deal with the guilt these crimes have caused.

Mitigating, Berenice Mulvanny said: Tonks was glad to be caught. It is a relief to him as he knew it was going to happen.

She added: He is now demonstrating a degree of remorse and is now looking for closure on this.

In sentencing, Judge Christopher Parker QC said deviant Tonks was a danger to small children as a result of the disturbing attacks.

He added that the only way to protect the public was to hand him a life sentence.

The judge added: The girl involved in these crimes was aged between four and seven years old, so was abused just as she was developing her earliest memories.

The damage you have done to her is unending.

Tonks, who pleaded guilty to 29 counts of child sex offences, will serve at least nine years imprisonment before he is eligible for parole.

He will only be released if the parole board believe he no longer poses a threat to children.

A MAN found with more than 200,000 indecent images of children is behind bars.

Jeffrey Bouquet was originally handed a suspended sentence when officers raided his home to find the vast number of photographs.

However, just four months after this sentence the 48-year-old contacted his offender manager to say he “accidentally clicked on a link” that took him to an prohibited site.

After handing himself in, officers checked his devices again and found more indecent images of children.

Southampton Crown Court heard Bouquet was found to have one category B image and 59 category C images when he was arrested last September.

Prosecutor Lucy Conroy told the court that the images had been downloaded from website such as Tumblr. She said: “An offender manager was contacted by Bouquet who stated he clicked on a website that could be bad and that he should not have clicked on.“It was decided that he should come into the police station and bring his phone to be examined - to see if the site was prohibited.”Miss Conroy added: “In his search history there were some searches for items such as ‘teen girl’ and the images that were found.”

Originally, Bouquet was sentenced after he was found to have 200,000 indecent images of children in April.

The court heard that along with that conviction, Bouquet had also received similar cautions for offences in 2001 and 2007.

Mitigating, Guy Draper told that court that Bouquet “accidentally clicked on the link” and handed himself in to help with the operation.

He said: “Bouquet had been viewing lawful material when the link appeared on his screen and he clicked on to it.

“It took him to indecent images.”

Mr Draper added that since Bouquet was given the suspended sentence he had completed 150 hours of unpaid work and had made good progress in his appointments with probation.

Recorder Jane Rowley said Bouquet’s first sentence could be “considered lenient” and that in sending him to prison she was giving a message to other people like Bouquet who continue to offend.

Bouquet, of Albert Road South, Southampton, pleaded guilty to possessing category B and C images and was sentenced to 16 months jail.

He was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Officers traced Aron Marczylo, who worked for the club until July 2017, to his home address in Shirley where he lives with his parents and found him in possession of the offensive material.

Among his collection included more than 6,000 category A indecent images of children as well as videos in which children were abused by adults.

In some of the videos, the young victims were seen crying as they were abused.

Southampton Crown Court heard that Marczylo used a peer to peer search system in order to obtain and download the images.

Timothy Akers, prosecuting, told Southampton Crown Court that police tracked the 30-year-old and paid him a visit on October 25, 2016.

He said: "Police seized his computer, laptop, mobile phone and tower unit for his pc.

"The defendant had 78 category A, 12 category B and seven category C movies.

"He was also found to have thousands of still images, of which the majority of them were the highest category, on his hard drive...some of the children involved are aged as young as four-years-old."

"In one video there is reference to a child, thought to be 11-years-old, who is in discernible pain during the events taking place in it.

"There is another video in which a child is crying in pain."

Mr Akers added: "In his interview he said he would watch the videos with his girlfriend."

He identifies as pan sexual and describes as having fantasies involving child abuse although he has never committed the fantasy."

Mitigating, Berenice Mulvanny told the court that Marczylo has struggled with depression, anxiety and suffered bullying as a child.

In one instance, she said, Marczylo had his hair set alight as a child.

Marczylo, of Janson Road, Southampton, was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will run for five years and will be on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

A MAN carried out a 'horrendous' rape on a woman before running her over with his car at a Southampton railway station.

Dylan Collins, 20, picked up the woman in his car late at night near St Denys station and drove into the car park.

She became concerned and tried to leave the car but Collins punched her in the face before raping her and biting her neck.

A member of the public heard the incident and ran to help so Collins jumped into his car and reversed over the victim's legs before fleeing the scene.

Police launched a search to track Collins down and caught him after chasing him on foot.

Collins, of Leighton Avenue, Southampton, was convicted of rape, causing actual bodily harm, and dangerous driving, and was jailed for eight years.

A STRONGLY religious church-goer who committed dozens of sexual assaults against a child including multiple rapes - has been jailed for 15 years. Bully Nigel Smith repeatedly molested and raped his victim over several years, starting when the child was around five. Described by probation officers as a control freak, the now 63-year-old, a former member of Romsey Christian Centre, would often subdue his victim through violence. The court was even told how Smith would sit his victim on his lap during church services for his own sexual gratification. However, Smith, of Bitterne Road East, refused to accept his wrongdoings. Instead, he insisted he had not meant to harm the child who the court heard was now suffering from suicidal thoughts. He denied all charges against him, but was found guilty during a six day trial at Southampton Crown Court. Sentencing him, Judge Nicholas Rowland, said Smith had shown a lack of remorse. He said: What is apparent to me is the impact this has had on your victim. Youve no appreciation for what you did nor any remorse. Judge Rowland also condemned Mr Smiths use of violence, describing him as a bully. Prosecuting, Rufus Taylor told the court that the first incident had occurred when the child was between five and six-years-old. The court heard how the assaults had caused serious psychological harm to Smiths victim. Defending, Sarah Jones said Smith had come from a violent background and accepted her client faced a lengthy prison sentence. Judge Rowland sentenced Smith to a total of 15 years in prison. His sentence was for four multiple counts of rape, as well as concurrent sentences for sexual assault and cruelty to a child. Smith was also given a further concurrent sentence for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Regarding the case, a statement from Romsey Christian Centre read: "Romsey Christian Centre adheres to a strict safeguarding policy, and our safeguarding officer ensures that all our workers, paid and voluntary working with children and vulnerable adults, are included in DBS criminal record disclosure checks. "While Nigel Smith attended the church as a member of the congregation, he has never been in a leadership position in the church and was not a member of our staff team. However, we take our responsibility very seriously to report any concerns regarding any member of our congregation to the appropriate statutory authorities including police, childrens social care or adult services. "As soon as we became aware of an allegation of physical abuse involving Nigel Smith, we took immediate action to inform Romsey Police Station and Nigel Smith was subsequently arrested. We also informed Nigel Smith that he would no longer be able to attend the church to ensure the safety of our other church members."

A man who was caught in a sting by a paedophile hunter has been jailed for child sex offences. Robert Babey, 68, was arrested in July following a vigilante operation which was filmed by BBC Inside Out South. He admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and multiple breaches of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Sentencing him to seven years in prison, Judge Gary Burrell QC said he had been "publically humiliated". Southampton Crown Court heard Babey was found in possession of sex toys when he arrived to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old boy but was in fact paedophile hunter Stephen Dure who had posed as a boy online while communicating with the former businessman. The encounter was filmed as part of a BBC Inside Out South documentary about Southampton-based Mr Dure's activities. In the programme the National Police Chiefs' Council criticised vigilante activity for potentially compromising police operations. In sentencing, Judge Burrell QC said that Babey, of Grantham Road, Eastleigh, was "at high risk of serious harm to children". "You may well have been publically humiliated. You deserve to be. It was an appalling thing to do," he added. Babey had first been convicted in 1990 for indecent assault. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, of which he was ordered to serve two-thirds before being released on licence. He was also handed a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.

A CONVICTED paedophile dressed up as a clown at Saints’ home games as “he liked having his picture taken with families”, it has been revealed.

Season ticket holder Kyle Fourie “concerned police officers” when he told them he would go to games in funny outfits to encourage people to have their photo with him.

Fourie, 26, was convicted of possessing indecent images in April 2016 – and was charged four days later after officers found him with more than 100 videos of boys and girls aged between five and 13.

He was exposed again in February, this time by paedophile hunters TRAP after he believed he was going to meet and abuse a 13-year-old boy.

Southampton Crown Court heard that when Fourie was initially sentenced last year, he was placed on a sexual harm prevention order.

But while serving the sentence he was caught with even more images.

When officers continued their investigations into Fourie they said he was found with briefcases full of newspaper clippings of child abuse cases as well as notes and stories he wrote depicting sexual activities with children.

In February, Fourie then contacted someone he believed to be a teenager, but who was, in fact, members of TRAP.

The group, operating under the fake identity of 13-year-old Tyler on Facebook, were contacted by Fourie.

Fourie sent a number of sexually explicit messages before arranging to meet the ‘child’ earlier this year outside a school in Millbrook.

When he arrived he was confronted by the vigilante group. Officers arrested Fourie and found in his rucksack porn, condoms and sexual enhancement tablets. After the sting, police raided his home again and found X-rated DVDs involving children.

Prosecuting, James Newton-Price told the court that officers had grown concerned about Fourie during unannounced visits to his property between the two sets of offences.

He said: “The officers were concerned that, despite being under a sexual order, he attended all Southampton Football Club matches as he was a season ticket holder.

“He liked to dress as a clown at games as he would always be asked for photographs from families, which meant he was a particular risk to children.”

Mr Newton-Price added: “In July 2016, officers also found magazine and newspaper cuttings of children and articles of child abuse and kidnap stories from the press.”

The court heard that Fourie had been previously convicted on a number of occasions for possessing indecent images of children.

He was also cautioned in 2010 when he admitted taking a picture of a child on the toilet while he volunteered at Mencap in Southampton.

Mitigating, Robert Forrest said Fourie’s offending “was linked to his disability”.

Dr Kevin O’Shea, who assessed Fourie, found him to have learning difficulties that meant it was not possible to “change his intellect, we can only try and change his behaviour”.

Judge Christopher Parker QC sentenced Fourie, of Tatchbury Mount, Calmore, to a hospital order. In order for Fourie to leave hospital, he will have to be signed off by the secretary of state or in a tribunal.

Following the case, an NSPCC spokesperson said: “Fourie’s attempts to groom a child are yet another stark reminder of the risks children and young people face online.”

A HAMPSHIRE man is lucky be alive after a savage knife attack by his neighbour. Whitney Palmer was the victim of the attack by friend Peter Smith outside their homes in Woolston, Southampton, The 62-year-old could have died after he was repeatedly stabbed by convicted rapist Smith when he turned up on his porch late at night. Smith, of Radstock Road, is today beginning a 12 year jail sentence after a court heard how he lunged at the victim on his doorstep when he opened his front door, narrowly missing major arteries as he stabbed him twice. Winchester Crown Court was told the exact motive was unclear but that Smith seemed to have developed a grudge for the victim over money. The court heard the 53-year-old, who was found guilty of the attack at a previous hearing, was under the influence of alcohol at the time, but did not appear drunk to police officers when he was arrested. Judge Jane Miller QC said the attack was launched without any precipitating cause and that the victim had been amazingly lucky to survive the assault. It is quite clear the effect the attack has had upon him. He could so easily have died, she said. Prosecuting Dawn Hyland referred to Smiths previous conviction of rape for which he has served four years in prison. In a statement Mr Palmer said he had suffered nerve damage in his leg and as a result of the knife attack at around 10pm on March 5, and now found it difficult to move around. He added: I have not slept well since the assault and experience feelings of dread on a daily basis, he said. I still cant comprehend what happened to me really. I could easily be dead now. He added that Smith was, a very unpredictable and dangerous person. Mitigating, Jamie Swain admitted that Smith had caused nasty injuries, but that he would not want to hurt anyone in that way ever again. He added that Smith, a joiner, had been friendly to other neighbours, even offering to build items for them and buying them things. Smith remained expressionless when he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, hearing that he would serve at least nine years behind bars before being considered for parole.

A “DISGUSTING” Southampton courier who poses a risk to children has been jailed.

Graham Williams admitted 14 charges including possessing indecent images of children and distributing them.

The 30-year-old was described as being “in denial” of his sexual interest in children, despite having more than 100 images on all of his electronic devices.

He was jailed for four years and one month at Southampton Crown Court.

Prosecuting, Siobhan Linsley said Williams’ manager found the indecent images on his phone after the driver had been due to deliver a parcel to a 17-year-old female customer.

However after struggling to get the package to his customer, Williams, pictured, ended up sending numerous text and Whats App messages to her.

The girl contacted father-of-one Williams’ boss who was informed and arranged a meeting with him and asked to see his phone.

Miss Linsley said: “The manager asked to see Williams’ personal phone that the message had allegedly been on. But when he went on the phone he saw photographs of females, which were of an indecent nature.”

Williams was arrested but while on bail continued to offend.

The court heard that Williams had also contacted children under an alias.

Ms Linsley said: “His profile picture was of a teenage girl and he used an alias when using the sites. When asked who he is, he said a 14-year-old.

“He would ask the girls how old they were and regardless of whether they were under-16, he would ask if they were virgins.”

The court heard that Williams’ personal devices, all which were seized by police, contained 163 images - 73 category A.

Mitigating, Timothy Akers said the offences were “frankly disgusting” but the “number of images wasn’t especially high”.

Mr Akers added that since his offending, which began in 2015, his partner had left him and taken his two-month-old child with her.

In sentencing, Judge Gary Burrell QC said the defendant’s pleas that he was not attracted to children were “preposterous”. He said: “Clearly he has an interest in children sexually and in the probation report it states he struggles to accept what he has done. He is in denial.

“It’s hardly surprising no one is here for him. He’s committed these offences. He has to take what comes from it and often it’s isolation.

“In my judgement you are interested in children. What else can it mean but having one. You’re a risk to any community especially one if there are children around.”

Williams, of Millbrook Road West, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for life.

A man has been jailed after grooming and then sexually abusing a young girl.

Paul Jenkins of Southampton appeared at Southampton Crown Court where he faced a four charges of child sexual abuse.

The court was told that Jenkins began abusing the girl when she was just 11 years old and the repeated abuse continued for two years.

Jenkins was found guilty of three of the four charges he faced.

The judge handed Jones a 30 month prison sentence of which he must serve half.

Jones is also required to register a sex offender for life

A "predator" who picked up underage girls in the street for sex and infected them with sexually-transmitted diseases has been jailed for 12 years. A court heard Antonio Agard, 54, targeted young girls in Southampton, giving them gifts and money, and lying about his age. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with victims aged 14 or 15 at the time of the offences. The judge said Agard "brainwashed" the girls to feed his sexual desires. 'Playing with dolls' Southampton Crown Court heard Agard, of James Street, was already on the sex offenders register when he met his first victim in 2002 or 2003. The court heard he approached her in a BMW car as she was walking in the street. The pair had a relationship lasting two or three years, during which time the girl contracted gonorrhoea from him. In a victim impact statement, she said she was now estranged from her family because of the relationship and had been diagnosed as suffering from depression. The second girl was befriended in 2006 and "repeatedly infected" with chlamydia, the court heard. Her statement said she had been "playing with dolls" only a month before meeting Agard, and felt he had "taken her childhood away". The court was told Agard had three previous convictions for having sex with underage girls and one conviction for indecent assault on a child. Judge Gary Burrell QC told him: "What you did was absolutely dreadful. You operated as a street predator looking for young girls. "You used both girls for sexual pleasure: controlled, manipulated and in effect brainwashed them to be compliant with your sexual desires." He imposed consecutive six-year jail terms for each count, together with a sexual harm prevention order to last indefinitely.
