Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, NG15
A sex offender lunged at a member of police staff as he tried and failed to destroy damning evidence contained on his mobile phone.
Jordan Haskard, aged 28, had initially handed the device over to officers when they executed a warrant at his home in July 2024.
Alarmed by its contents, he changed his mind and lunged towards the digital media officer holding the folding-style device – grabbing it and trying to snap it in half.
The reason for his actions would soon become clear, when the device was found to contain discussions about (and videos of) the most serious sexual abuse of children.
Haskard had first come to the attention of Nottinghamshire Police in June 2022 when officers in another part of the country unearthed social media messages in which he discussed the sexual abuse of children with another man.
He also arranged for the man to send him a video of a toddler being sexually abused – even making specific requests of what things he wanted to see.
That video – which led to the conviction of the perpetrator – was later found on Haskard’s previous mobile phone when he was arrested, along with nearly 600 extreme images.
While still on bail for those offences, Haskard again came to police attention after one of his social media accounts was linked to the distribution of prohibited images.
It was at this point that the phone he tried to destroy was found covered in clothes by the side of his bed.
As well as Category A rated images of child sexual abuse, the device was also found to contain discussions about the abduction and rape of children, as well as extreme images of animals.
Haskard, formerly of Hucknall, later pleaded guilty to two counts of arranging the commission of a child sex offence, four counts of making an indecent image of a child, two counts of distributing indecent images of children, possessing an extreme pornographic image of an animal, and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, he was given an extended sentence of 24 years and seven months.
The sentence consists of a jail term of 16 years and seven months and an extended licence period of eight years, during which he will immediately be returned to prison if he breaches the terms of his release.
He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will tightly restrict his online activities and access to children when he is eventually released.

Willowbridge Lane, Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17
A sex offender has been returned to jail after he was caught sending explicit messages to a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
In reality, 52-year-old Andrew Bray was speaking with a member of an online activist group, who then informed the police.
When Bray was arrested at his home in Sutton on December 22 last year, he correctly predicted he would ‘go back to prison’ as a result.
In a series of messages exchanged on a social media platform, he had encouraged his intended victim to engage in an explicit act.
Despite his initial burst of honesty, Bray gave no comment answers to all the questions asked of him in his police interview.
However, he later pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a girl into sexual activity.
He also admitted to breaching a sexual harm prevention order imposed after a previous offence to prevent him harming children online.
Bray, formerly of Willowbridge Lane, Sutton, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on March 31 and was jailed for a total of eight years.
Det Con Sophie Lee, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Men like Bray are an active danger to children, who they seek to manipulate and corrupt for their own sexual gratification.
“Happily, on this occasion no real child was harmed.
"We know, however, but those young children who are enticed by online predators like Bray can suffer lasting psychological harm as a result.
“I am pleased he has now been returned to jail where he can pose no further harm to children.”

Carlton, Borough of Gedling, Nottinghamshire, NG4
A sex offender has been jailed for four years after detectives discovered a large amount of child abuse images at his home.
Philip Cliffe, aged 41, came to the attention of Nottinghamshire Police in October 2023 when his IP address - the unique reference code linking an individual account holder to the internet - was linked to images of child sexual abuse.
Detectives carried out a search at his home address and recovered several electronic devices including a laptop and a memory stick.
Forensic analysis of the devices revealed thousands of images showing the sexual abuse of children - some of them babies.
Around 1,000 of the images were graded as Category A - depicting the most serious abuse that can be perpetrated by adults against children.
Cliffe's devices were also found to contain extreme adult pornographic material.
Cliffe, of Carlton, declined to answer officers' questions in his police interview, but later pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing a prohibited image of a child, and possessing extreme (adult) pornographic images.
Appearing at Nottinghamshire Crown Court on Friday he was jailed for four years.

Blackstone Drive, Shireoaks, S81
A former West Yorkshire teacher has been jailed for six years after admitting getting a girl to send him a sexual photograph and then sharing the image with another child when she refused to send him further images.
Michael Pierce, 32, pleaded guilty to offences of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act, inciting a child under 13 years to engage in sexual activity and distributing an indecent photograph of a child.
He appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, June 27) where he was sentenced to six years imprisonment.
He was also put on the sex offender register for life and given a life-long sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) to have no unsupervised contact with children Pierce posed as a 16-year-old boy from Leeds and befriended the victims via Snapchat.
He convinced one of the girls to send him a nude photograph and after she refused to send more images threatened to send the photograph to all of her friends on Snapchat.
He sent the second victim the photograph of the first victim and also asked her to send nude photographs of herself.
Police traced the defendant’s IP address and Pierce was arrested at an address in Wakefield in 2021. He was a teacher at the time the offences were committed and at the point of his arrest.
Detective Sergeant Steven Sayles, of Wakefield District Child Vulnerable to Exploitation Team (CVET), said: “This man, who occupied a position of trust, has targeted young girls and used threatening behaviour to try and exploit them into sending indecent images.
“The nature of his crimes was particularly concerning given his role at the time.
We have worked with local authority colleagues throughout this investigation to ensure that measures have been put in place to restrict his contact with children.
Following his conviction Pierce, of Blackstone Drive, Shireoaks, Worksop, is now the subject of a life-long sexual harm prevention order.
“These were horrible offences committed against vulnerable young girls. I hope the conclusion of this court case brings some closure on an upsetting and scary time for them.”

A dangerous paedophile who was caught by police when he travelled to Nottinghamshire to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl has been jailed.
Kevin Walsh had unknowingly been chatting to specialist law enforcement officers when he arranged to meet the father of the ‘girl’ in order to rape her.
Officers arrested Walsh when he arrived at a Nottinghamshire hotel on the meeting date of 11 November 2023.
Specialist search officers seized Walsh’s mobile phone and laptop, and analysis of the devices showed he had been offending over a prolonged period.
The 59-year-old, of HMP Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday (8 March) and was jailed for a total of eight years and eight months.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to seven counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child, six counts of making an indecent photograph of a child and three counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.

During the investigation it became clear he had also been communicating with a suspect in Wales where he had arranged to drug and rape a young child.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years, ordered to attend a sex offender rehabilitation programme, and 15 other rehabilitation sessions.
Nottinghamshire Live, which attended the sentencing hearing, reported that Frogson was living in Nuthall in Nottinghamshire when an IP address there was suspected of downloading child abuse images in early 2023.
Police then seized two devices and found the images when they were examined.
Frogson's most recent address was given to the court as Malthouse Close in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.
His other acting work includes a role in 2023's The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which also starred Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton.

Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation after information was passed to detectives.
It was discovered during a detailed investigation that Feckey had also sent explicit messages to the person he believed was aged 14, as well as attempting to groom another individual he believed was 13.
Sixty-three-year-old Feckey, of Fredrick Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child after grooming and two counts of attempting to incite a child into sexual activity.

Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, NG22
A man who secretly filmed two children in a bath and then shared severe child sex abuse images has been jailed.
Lee Bowdler, 52, of Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, admitted using a hidden camera in a bathroom and owning 271 indecent images of children, some of which he posted on Twitter.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) said Bowdler had a "clear sexual interest" in children.
He was jailed for one year at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.
Bowdler was also and handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order
The NCA identified Bowdler after he posted indecent images of children on Twitter using an online moniker.
He was arrested at work in Colwick in May 2022.
Officers said they found 271 indecent images, some in the highest severity category, on eight of Bowdler's devices.
A secret recording of two children taking a bath, which Bowdler had filmed using a hidden camera, was also recovered by the NCA.
At Mansfield Magistrates' Court on 7 February. Bowdler admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of distributing images and one count of voyeurism.
NCA operations manager Adam Sprague said: "Lee Bowdler clearly had a sexual interest in children, shown both by the footage he shot in the bathroom and the child abuse images he'd accumulated.
"There is a global demand for such material, so the NCA will never waver in its commitment to protect children from sexual abuse and bring perpetrators to justice.
An NSPCC spokesman said in the East Midlands, child abuse image offences, recorded by UK police, "have surged by 81% in just five years".
"Behind every one of the indecent images Bowdler downloaded and distributed are children, many who will have suffered abuse which could cause lasting harm," he added.

Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17
A Nottinghamshire man has been jailed for 27 years for raping young girls.
Richard Stocks, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, repeatedly attacked his victims then instructed them to keep quiet, Nottinghamshire Police said.
However the 55-year-old was arrested after one of them defied his order to remain silent and told their mother what had happened in July 2021.
He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting 12 counts of rape.
Stocks also pleaded guilty to a further charge of attempted rape, two of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was ordered to serve another year on extended licence on top of his 27-year custodial sentence.
Victims' bravery
Police said Stocks will have to serve at least two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole and will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
Detectives praised the bravery of Stocks' victims whose testimony about his behaviour and his distinctive physical characteristics helped to secure his convictions.
Det Con Kerry Stringfellow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Stocks is a devious and predatory sex offender who repeatedly preyed on young children.
"The nature of his offending was utterly horrific and has unsurprisingly had a very significant impact on his victims.
"But for their bravery in coming forward and telling us about what had happened, Stocks would have remained a danger to any children he came into contact with."
Guilty of multiple sexual offences with a child.
Kirton, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, NG22
A man from near Worksop found guilty of multiple sexual offences with a child has had his sentence doubled after the case was referred under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Thomas Timpson, aged 36, of Kirton, Ollerton, denied the allegations but was convicted after trial at Nottingham Crown Court and was originally sentenced to three years in prison.
Over a period of five to six months, Timpson bought his 15-year-old victim gifts and engaged in sexual activity with her.
Timpson was found guilty on six counts of sexual activity with a child, one of sexual communication with a child and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181, was added to the sex offender’s register and made the subject of a Restraining Order for 10 years.
Following the sentencing on January 20 this year, the case was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Timpson’s original sentence was found to be unduly lenient by the court on April 4, 2023, and was increased to six years’ imprisonment.
Speaking after the hearing, the Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP said: “Despite denying the allegations, the court found that Thomas Timpson had groomed his underage victim and took full advantage of her.
“This was a truly appalling breach of trust and I welcome the court imposing an increased custodial sentence on Thomas Timpson recognising the heinous nature of his crimes.”
Speaking at the time, Detective Sergeant James Robinson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Timson’s behaviour was manipulative and predatory. He knew exactly what he was doing.”

Dr Strange actor Zara Phythian and husband Victor Marke jailed for child sex abuse.
Mavis Avenue, Ravenshead, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG15 & Taurus Close, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG19
Dr Strange actress Zara Phythian has been jailed for eight years at Nottingham Crown Court for the historical sexual abuse of a young girl.
Phythians husband Victor Marke was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for jointly abusing the same victim - who was aged between 13 and 15, as well as the indecent assault of a second girl.
Zara Phythian, who is 37-years-old, is known for Accident Man 2 (2022), Tribal Get Out Alive (2020) and Marvel's Doctor Strange (2016) where she starred with Benedict Cumberbatch.
The child was given rum and asked if she wanted to play a game of dare, the trial heard
The alleged abuse began when the child was given rum and Phythian, of Taurus Close, Mansfield, asked her if she wanted to play a game of "dare".
Phythian, an experienced martial artist, dared the child to join in a sex act with her and her husband Victor, 59, of Mavis Avenue, Ravenshead, the trial heard.
The victim, who cannot be named, told the court Marke made threats against her and ordered her to film some of the abuse at the hands of the "Jekyll and Hyde" couple.
Phythian denied having any sexual contact with the victim, who was able to describe a Chinese calligraphy tattoo the actress has near her private parts.
The victim was abused at least 20 times as the offences continued until she was 16, Nottingham court hears
The victim, who came forward after a separate complaint in 2016, described how Marke pretended to be asleep before joining in what she believed was pre-planned abuse alongside Phythian.
Passing sentence, Judge Mark Watson told the couple he believed the start of the sexual abuse of the joint victim had been pre-planned.
The judge told Marke: I regard you as the driving force behind the abuse. You were clearly aware of the first incident but pretended to be asleep.
"This could only have been a ruse agreed in advance."
During the sentencing, the judge also said that Phythians "deviance" was shaped by the influence that Marke had on her from an early age.
Addressing Phythian, the judge added: "Whilst you denied in cross-examination that you were besotted with Victor Marke, on the evidence I have heard I am in no doubt that your deviance was shaped by the influence that he had upon you from an early age.
"I cannot ignore that it started at a time when you were still young."
But the judge added: Having said that, none of this excuses what you did these were choices you made.
"You were by then successful in your own right. You chose to play your part."
As she was led away to the cells, Phythian waved at the public gallery, where a woman shouted: "I love you, Zara."
The 37-year-old, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and Marke, 59, were told they will have to serve at least half their sentences before being considered for parole.
Child sex offences.

A fugitive paedophile was arrested by police in Dover after being found hiding in a lorry bound for France.
Mezbaha Uddin is now facing a long spell in jail after a jury convicted him of a string of child sex offences.
The 39-year-old had been under investigation by Nottinghamshire Police in relation to a series of offences between September 2018 and July 2020.
A jury has now found him guilty of 16 child sex offences including 10 counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He is due to be sentenced on October 22.
Canterbury Crown Court heard that Uddin's arrest followed an allegation of sexual communication with a child in Nottinghamshire in July 2019.
Jurors heard that Uddin had communicated with a decoy account set up by an online child activist group.
The group alerted police when he sent indecent images of himself and arranged to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl in Mansfield.
Uddin was arrested and his mobile phone was seized.
Messages from a chatroom website found that Uddin had attempted to engage in sexual communications with more than a dozen underage girls, in some instances with a view to meeting them in person.
On other occasions, he encouraged girls to engage in sexual activity while he watched.
Detective Constable Stuart Dolby, of Nottinghamshire Police's public protection team, welcomed the convictions.
'This was a complex and thorough investigation which included disturbing evidence for our officers to deal with.
'I am pleased with the verdicts and I hope they send a clear message that Nottinghamshire Police will do what is necessary to tackle these crimes and to protect the most vulnerable people in our communities.
'Child sex offences of any kind are taken incredibly seriously and we have a number of tactics in place to catch offenders out.
'No child should be subjected to any sexual offence and it's our duty to protect them.'
Bradley Dawes 29
Violent rapist who would degrade women for his own sadistic pleasure.
Violent rapist who would degrade women for his own sadistic pleasure.
Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17
A violent rapist who would "degrade" women "for his own sadistic pleasure" has been jailed for 17 years.
Bradley Dawes, 26, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was found guilty in March of rape and admitted four counts of assault.
He raped and beat one victim and during an attack on his second victim he punched her about 10 times.
Recorder Jason Macadam told Nottingham Crown Court Dawes was "motivated by his hostility towards women".
Dawes, of Mansfield Street, also previously admitted intimidating a witness, harassment and sexual assault.
The court heard Dawes had a history of violence towards women, including four previous convictions for 10 crimes in total.
The hearing was told that in December 2018 Dawes hit a woman a number of times, leaving her with a black eye and bruised ribs.
He also strangled her and "twisted her neck like a chicken and continued to hit her", the court heard.
On New Year's Day, he beat her again, and the next morning "raped her as a form of punishment".
She was left with a broken nose and tooth, and he then took her out to "show off her injuries" to his brother and a friend, the court was told.
'Intimidated and worthless'
In a victim impact statement, the woman, who cannot be identified, said she still suffered flashbacks and described how Dawes had "ruined" her life.
She said: "I still feel violated, intimidated and worthless because what of Bradley did to me."
In October 2019, he attacked another woman by grabbing her by the neck and punching her five times to the head and face, leaving her with a bloody nose and black eye, the court heard.
In another attack, he threw a boot at her and punched her about 10 times to the ribs, back and neck.
He then told her to put make-up on as he needed to see his probation officer.
Dawes also sent semi-naked photos of her to her brother, posted messages online threatening anyone who might take an interest in her, and threatened to set fire to her house.
She left her home due to concerns for her safety, the court heard.
The judge said his "conduct was to maximise distress" and was "motivated by your hostility towards women".
'Controlling bully'
He added: "It is apparent from your antecedence you are a misogynist and take pleasure in other people's misery."
He said Dawes "degraded" women "when alone or in the company of others... for your own sadistic pleasure".
"In respect of both complainants, you engaged in continuous acts of violence, coercion or humiliation," the judge added.
Det Con Donna Elliott, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Dawes is a violent, arrogant and controlling bully who terrorised two young women. His attitude throughout the investigation was appalling and I am delighted that he will now spend a very considerable period of time behind bars."
She added the victims "showed enormous courage in coming forward and giving evidence".
As well as being jailed for 17 years, Dawes was handed a restraining order and put on the sex offenders register for life.
He will have to serve two-thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for parole.
